Publisher's summary

Iain Sinclair, Marquis of Alynwick, is certain there is a special hell for him. An unrepentant rake, he holds nothing sacred - except for beautiful Elizabeth York. For years, Alynwick has tried to forget the woman he loved so well, and treated so badly. A woman who could hold nothing in her heart for him but hatred.

All of society believes Elizabeth, the blind daughter of a duke, to be a proper young lady. But no one knows of her wanton affair with Alynwick. When Lizzy learns of her ancestor's ancient diary - filled with exotic tales - she longs to uncover the identity of the unnamed lover within and hesitantly agrees to allow Alynwick, who claims to have knowledge of the "veiled lady," to help her solve the mystery.

Eager to be Lizzy's eyes, Alynwick brings the seductive text to life, and each night it takes greater effort for her to remember his betrayal. With each whispered word, her resolve gives way, without her knowing that a centuries-old secret will lead them to a present-day danger.

Would you listen to Temptation & Twilight again? Why?

Yes I would listen again. I loved this entire series. It was a bit different but a great story line and I loved the characters.

Had to force myself to finish

Read from August 07 to 29, 2012

Audiobook read by Helen Stern. I had to FORCE myself to finish this book--and that's after devouring the first two books (and Book 2 ends on a great cliffhanger). Unfortunately, this book goes back in time and rehashes most of the events of Book 2--and introduces a new (boring) "mystery." Iain is an absolute jerk. When you wish the heroine would end up with the OTHER guy, it's never a good thing.

Worth the wait!

Where does Temptation & Twilight rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very, very good. Loved this series. Wanted to wait for the audiobook and it was certainly worth it. He is clearly my favorite of the characters in the trilogy.

Too much Repetition

There was way too much repetition (from prior 2 in series)in this third book of the series. When I first began reading this third book I had to keep checking back to make sure I had the correct book in the series. There were many chapters that contained ery long word for word excerpts from the previous books (especially the second book). The new story within the third book was shortened due to so much content from the first books. I understand the author may have been writing the second and third book so that a reader could pick up any of the three and be able to read a complete book without too many questions....but entire chapters repeated word for word is too much.

Ending

This book went over pretty much everything that happened in the 2nd book. There was very little about their affair.
Then it just ended abruptly. No epilogue, nothing. It just ended.
Very disappointed.

It's Alynwick!!! Not Alyck....ugh!!!

Given that this is the third book in a series in which the main characters played pivotal roles in prior books, the mispronunciation of the main character's name is extremely distracting! While I usually enjoy books narrated by Ms. Stern, this effectively ruined what would have been a very good ending (?) to this series.

The story has many twists and turns and for the most part flows fairly quickly. This author never disappoints and Alynwick is one of my favorite characters-probably because of all of his flaws. As long as the name change/mispronunciation doesn't bug you, it's worth the credit.

Prepare to lose sleep.. I could NOT put it down..

What did you like best about this story?

Awesome love story. Man desperately in love with women, can't live without her...everything a lady loves to hear.. Had a great plot as well.. A lot more going on than just the couple too which is always a plus..the other thing I really thought was cool was the perspective views the author gave to each book and character. She makes sure you don't miss a thought or emotion. Excellently done!

Have you listened to any of Helen Stern’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I thought narrator to be nice..she added a lot to the story and pulls you in with her voice.

Any additional comments?

This book and series all together really surprised me. I don't often listen to many stories more than once but I just finished it and I can't wait to go back and hear it again..

CF DOES IT AGAIN

If you've listened the the others in the series then you know what you're getting - a truly enjoyable historical romance. Good plot with a twist at the end that you just don't see coming. Ian was so tormented and you couldn't help but empathise with him and hope that he will finally win back "his Beth". It's good also to come across one of these types of romance novels that has the heroine with a disability - normally they are just perfect in every way so it gives us 'imperfect' girlies hope.

I only hope this is not the end of the Brethren Guardians stories and hope CF is busy dreaming up the next tale to enthral us.

Worth a credit? Narrator was a bit slow for me and so spoiled a certain amount of the enjoyment but I would certainly recommend this so it's a definite YES from me.

Disappointed!

What did you like best about Temptation & Twilight? What did you like least?

I'm not really sure what I liked best, but I know what I liked least. I didn't like that there was no mystery about the House of Orpheus until the last 3 or 4 chapters. Most of the book was about Iain trying to seduce Lizzy and Lizzy slowly giving way to his seductions. There was also some inconsistencies in how Iain was addressed in this book versus the two previous books.

I also didn't like that this book overlapped some with the previous book in the series. We know that Lucy and Adrian got together so why have this book start where Adrian is still pursuing Lucy? Doesn't make sense.

Have you listened to any of Helen Stern’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I've listened to other books by Helen Stern and I think she does a great job. She distinguishes the various male and female voices very well.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

If the book would have concentrated more on the House of Orpheus and Iain and Lizzy working to bring it down rather than reading about a book from the past. That book didn't add to the story and Lizzy's obsession with the book didn't really make sense.

Any additional comments?

I definitely found the first two books in the series to be much better than this final book. I would recommend this book only to close out the series and not to read or listen to without reading or listening to the first two books in the series. The first two books were great!
