Publisher's Summary

During her nightly, clandestine swim in the freezing winter ocean, a grisly find leads Jane to startling revelations about her heritage: she is only half-human.

Now, Jane must enter a world filled with supernatural creatures that are terrifying, beautiful, and deadly - all of which perfectly describe her new “friend”, Ryu, a gorgeous and powerful vampire.

It is a world where nothing can be taken for granted: a dog can heal with a lick; spirits bag your groceries; and whatever you do, never -ever - rub the genie’s lamp.

If you love Sookie Stackhouse, then you’ll want to dive into Nicole Peeler’s enchanting debut novel.

    "Cool Cover, Great Story!"

I loved this book. It is a different take on the whole Paranormal/Romance genre.

Don't let the cover scare you off, like it almost did to me. The book was highly recommend over on the GoodReads website. I am glad that I took their advice.
I guess this is the first book in a series, but to tell you the truth, it was a stand alone novel. I would recommend it to fans of "One Foot In The Grave". It's that good.

    Story
    "Boring"

I can see from all the ratings and reviews that precede mine that I am in the minority here, but let me put my two cents worth in here anyway. I can see why many young women might like this story. There is lots (LOTS) of sex with a hunky vampire. Also there is much description of cute, expensive new clothes that the heroine gets. (As a new school teacher, while trying to do a brainstorming activity, I discovered to my dismay that not a single girl in all my classes had any wishes she would admit to in public besides new clothes of one kind or another.)

The beginning was very promising. Here is this young woman who loves swimming in cold, dangerous waters and who is strong enough to throw a dead body over her shoulder and carry it up the beach. But then she never really does anything with it. The story quickly devolves into a boyfriend story. The boyfriend takes her here and there. They have some ordinary, vanilla sex that she likes. The boyfriend buys her new clothes. They have more vanilla sex. A bad guy threatens her, but the boyfriend takes care of it and they have more sex...

That is apparently enough for the majority of people who have rated this book here. It wasn't enough for me. I'm not young and horny anymore. A sex scene has to be outstanding to get my attention now. None of these were. I wanted to see a young woman with unknown powers discovering and using them. That is held out as a promise for future entries in this series, but I won't be reading them. If you are a young horny woman who loves clothes, this book may really ring your bell. If you are a man or an older woman, probably not.

"A New England version of Sookie!"

This was a fun listen. Good narrator that did the story and characters justice. If Charlaine Harris, Seanan McGuire and Kimberly Frost had a book baby it would be Tempest Rising.
Im from the Northern East coast of the US and I can tell you that Peeler paints and accurate picture of a small coastal New England town.
I cant wait to hear the next book in the series.

    "Paranormal world united!"

I loved this story, it gave the paranormal community a sort of united front. it wasn't just vampires vs. everyone else. This story I thoroughly recommend and enjoyed this is a keeper for the library.
The narrator was wonderful, she read this full of passion as she enjoyed it as she read it.

    "Each Book Gets Better"

To be honest, the first book took me a bit to get into... The narrator has a very light, teenlike voice, and at first, it grated on me. Jane's a grown woman, so the voice didn't sit right with me. However, as it went on, I was able to look past it and become involved with the story. I read a TON of paranormal romance, and more often than not, I'm disappointed in what's out there- The same stale storylines, the same mythical creatures, so on and so forth. This was a nicely fresh take on things, and by the time I was done with Book One, I was completely involved. It was a great mix of light and funny, dark and intense. Jane is flawed and brave, and sometimes the two combine for insanely stupid decisions that somehow come out alright, of course. There's a supporting cast of characters that makes me giggle, and the action is sometimes pretty intense. It's got my recommendation!

    "Meh"

This book seemed too light and trite. It has all the elements of a great book, but it never grabbed me. The main character was too slow... She should have been more curious about herself and background by this point in her life. The narrator made her sound like a child, and I just couldn't totally get her. Then suddenly there's a bunch of sex and pining... There's so many good and well written books in this genre, this just seems like a waste of time. it was one of those books that i had to rewind over andover because it wouldnt hold my attention, after 3 or 4 times i just gave up. But noticed a lot of people really liked it... I think it lacked depth and character. Sorry. :(

    "Thoroughly enjoyable!"

I found myself not wanting this book to end! The dialogue was witty and Jane is a very funny, likable character. The possible love triangle between Jane, Ryu and Anyan is intriguing. I did find the endearments a bit much between her and Ryu, as they hardly knew one another, but aside from that, I can't wait for the next installment!

    "Read by a child?"

If you can handle a narrator who sounds like she's 11 years old, one who doesn't have the ability to alter either the pitch or cadence of her voice in any way, shape or form, you might enjoy the audio version of the book. If not, I would suggest that you save your money and read the print version instead.

    Enough said!

    "Very good"

This is a very good start to what I'm hoping will be a great series. It has an interesting world with great characters. I like more action than romance but in this book the romantic aspect of the book was tolerable. However, I felt that the romance slowed the book down a bit. I'm going to buy the next boo in the series and I recommend it to anyone who likes mystery/romance with a supernatural twist.

    "This was a fun listen"
What made the experience of listening to Tempest Rising the most enjoyable?

The narration and storyline was just a really nice fun combo. I was pleasantly surprised.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Jane True

What about Kate Reinders’s performance did you like?

I like that she didn't just read the book, she too seemed entertained and very much into the characters and the story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Meet Jane True!

    Any additional comments?

I'm into this series. I was hoping the rest of the books get on audio.
