Publisher's summary

No matter how hard she tries, Elleanor Fisher never thinks she's good enough, from her job to her weight to her love life. After enduring years of abuse at the hands of an ex-boyfriend, Elli has been drifting through life in a daze. Until, that is, she meets Shea Adler on a promotional shoot for the NHL's Nashville Assassins. Before Elli knows what's happening, the gorgeous Shea breaks the ice and shatters her world. A brilliant athlete inside the rink, Shea Adler is tired of the life he's living outside of it: the women, the money, the drinking. But everything changes when he meets Elli. After laying eyes on this feisty, witty, beautiful woman, he feels like he's just taken the hardest hit of his life. No matter how skeptical she is, Shea knows they are meant to be together - if only he can convince Elli to put her insecurities aside before she misses out on a shot at love.

size 2 to 10 and she's fat? really?

I really tried to to get into this book but could not. I did not like the narrators male voice at all and the female protagonist constantly complained that her size 10 was her being fat. Really? I just couldn't do it.

A size 10 is too fat?

I DNF'd this audiobook in the first chapter because the female lead said she was thick and dumpy because she wore a size 10.

Poorly edited. Entertaining story.

Mostly liked the characters. Wanted to slap Elli more than a few times. Very poorly edited.

Could of have been better

What did you like best about Taking Shots? What did you like least?

I'm finding it difficult to actually think of something that I really liked about this book, unfortunately nothing really stands out about it. It was simply OK. There is a lot that I didn't like though. Perhaps these things are the reason I can't find anything to exceptional about Taking Shots. I found it extremely annoying with the continuous use of the giggling, and Shea referring to Elli and all women as GIRLS. Come on, we're supposed be talking about grownups here, not teenagers. I kept hoping that she stop using those phrase so much, but it didn't happen. It was distracting and kept thinking that it all sounded childish. Drove me crazy.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Now I have to admit that I liked the ending....it was probably the one part of the whole but that felt like I was dealing with adults and not a couple of kids. It was dramatic and sappy and a little funny at the same time. I won't go into what happened cause it was the best part of the whole book.

Did Lucy Malone do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

I liked Lucy's reading of the book. She did a good job of letting you know Shea was from the east coast and that Elli was pure southern.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

Well making it sound like they were talking about adults would have made it sooooo much better. Shea was a sweetheart, maybe to sweet at times. I mean he is supposed be this hot, famous hockey player after all. Also Elli was a contradiction. They want you to think of her as this sophisticated, confident, successful woman. But most of the time she came across as anything but. Overall, Taking Shots was simply OK. It wasn't a bad read. If your really bored and you don't mind the strange use of wording in the book, then you will enjoy this book. It had it's moments. I might try another just to see if she continues with the same phrasing, if so then it will most likely be the last one I buy.

Enjoyed this

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this book. The Boston accents made me laugh. Elly's insecurities were played a little over the top at times, but all in all, I enjoyed myself with this one. It was nice to have a sports series without all of the love triangle drama.

Good Start

I really love this series and think this is a great start to it. Ellie can be annoying but I loved the relationship between her and Shea. Yes the conflict was stupid but for me it's believable it happens, the narration is done well and I enjoyed this listen.
