Publisher's summary

From number-one New York Times best-selling author Abbi Glines comes the story of Grant, the sexy playboy who first captured listeners’ hearts in Fallen Too Far.

When Harlow Manning’s rocker father goes on tour, he sends her to Rosemary Beach, Florida, to live with her half-sister, Nan. The problem: Nan despises her. Harlow has to keep her head down if she wants to get through the next nine months, which seems easy enough. Until gorgeous Grant Carter walks out of Nan’s room in nothing but his boxer briefs.

Grant made a huge mistake getting involved with a girl with venom in her veins. He’d known about Nan’s reputation, but still he couldn’t resist her. Nothing makes him regret the fling more than meeting Harlow, who sends his pulse racing. Yet Harlow wants nothing to do with a guy who could fall for her wicked half-sister - even if there are no strings between Grant and Nan. Grant is desperate to redeem himself in Harlow’s eyes, but did he ruin his chances before he even met her?

What kind of cliffhanger was that?!?!

I liked the book but not the ending because to me there was no true ending. I cant even qualify this as a cliffhanger. Normally I genuinely love Abbi Glines but this book started getting on my nerves!! There were a few things about this book that I did not like. It wasn't that the storyline was bad but it was the relationship between the two leads that did not make sense to me. This is the first couple in the series I just didn't feel the connection with.
Grant was a complete whorish douchbag! I just can't forgive him especially after the "twins".
It was interesting to learn more about Harlow and why she was so secluded all the time. There were a lot of unexpected secrets in this story. I wish Harlow didn't give into Grant so easily. She should have made him work for it a little harder, a lot harder actually. However, I did enjoy Grant for his dirty mouth. The Rosemary Beach boys are really good at that.
Abbi Glines definitely knows how to write some hot and dirty scenes and that's exactly what you get in Take A Chance. Along with the dramatic twists and turns (especially near the end), and the very alluring characters. I wil read the next book but I'm not sure if it will help endear me to Grant.

GLINES TOOK A BIG CHANCE ON THIS ONE!!!

I already knew I was going to have a hard time with this story because of the reviews, but I have really enjoyed the Rosemary Beach series, so far, and simply needed to keep going. So I recruited the help of a reading buddy to read/listen along with me so we could be a support group to one another...lol, Crazy right? Well, let me tell you that I needed that support throughout this book because about 20 minutes into it, it was an almost DNF. In fact, it was an almost DNF up until about 60% of the book.

Glines really took a chance in writing Grant and Harlow's story because of Grant's tangled previous relationship with Harlow's half sister Nan (who is a bonafide biotch of the first degree). Harlow and Nan are half sisters and the daughters of rock star legend, Kiro, and along with that connection, there were so many relational aspects of this story that did not make sense to me. For instance....why would Kiro have Harlow (his favorite and beloved daughter) live with Nan (his venomous daughter who HATES Harlow) in Rosemary Beach, in the SAME house????? I NEVER understood that completely. But, the hardest part was how Grant got involved with Harlow after his relationship with Nan began to disintegrate. I know that he had an instant attraction to Harlow, and she made him feel things he had never experienced before but, Oh MY GOODNESS, really??? You're going to fall in love with your EVIL-BITCHY ex-girlfriend's half sister???? Now if that wasn't a doozy, the hardest part of the story between Grant and Harlow is HIS behavior after he was with Harlow. UGH, that infuriated me beyond belief!!!! Look, I really do like Man-Whores, but only after they STOP Man-whoring after they find the love of their life!!!! What the heck Grant???? His excuse was fear....wow...that dam fear.....

Anyway, I don't think I will ever get over how badly Grant messed up on Harlow after being with her!!!! UGh!!! And, I really liked Grant from previous books. He was the fun and very caring playboy of the group of gorgeous men in Rosemary Beach.

Well, the reason I finished this book was because of sweet Harlow. I mean, I needed to see the girl through this mess! Also, because of her cowboy, half-brother Mase who was so awesome and protective--Loved Him. Lastly, because of the the incredible story that was revealed about her mother, Emily and Kiro's amazing love. OMG, that took my breath away!!!!!

Even though this book does not end well, I'm pushing to the next book because I'm an optimist and hoping Grant redeems himself, especially in light of Harlow's secret coming out.....

Narrators: Shayna T. and Jack D. did a very nice job with this audiobook. It took me a while to get used to Shayna's voice, but overall, I believe she did a good job.

Seriously I have to wait how many months???

MAJOR FREAKING CLIFFHANGER!!! Next book isn't coming until after summer...I may lose my mind. I like Harlow and Grant, though really Grant can be a major idiot! The whole thing with Nan...really dude, seriously? why has no one just put her out of her misery yet?

Okay, so I like this series, I live the characters, I enjoyed catching up with previous couples, etc. I would have liked to have seen a lot more with this couple, we saw some good progress but there is a long way to go. I would wait on this until closer to the release of the next. I think I like Wood's book more, possibly best, but this is good and I will continue. Once the next one comes I will listen to this again, possibly all of them again because they are good. Rush does piss me off in the very beginning but I get over that.

It was just ok

Any additional comments?

I love Abbi Glines so I was really dissappointed in this book. Her writing and characters are typically amazing. I just couldn't connect with the characters, I felt like I didn't know anything about them. Grant was shallow and didn't really do anything but sleep with women. Unfortunately, I was most dissappointed in Harlow's character. She was kind of weak and didn't seem to have any goals or aspirations in life. Normally the author writes about really strong women who have goals and who are survivors. Harlow didn't have any goals or plans for the future.

I hate to only criticize so I will say that the love scenes are good and I enjoyed hearing about Rush, Blaire, Woods and Della.

what a disappointment not a complete book.

What disappointed you about Take a Chance?

I like stories that flow into more than one book but I hate to waste my money an have to buy another book to find out what is going to happen to me it only to make more money. No matter how much I like the author they are off my list to buy another book. SHAME ON ALL PUBLISHERS AN AUTHORS THAT DO THIS .

Has Take a Chance turned you off from other books in this genre?

It not the book people its whoever trying to make more money . It's an not like it has to be in a store or you pay a sales clerk an building fee an so on .

Have you listened to any of Shayna Thibodeaux and Jack DuPont ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

What character would you cut from Take a Chance?

None

Any additional comments?

Stop trying to make money an have a beginning middle and ending of a story in one book. When a person only can spend x amount of money on books this is deceitful. Unless I messed it should be I the 1st line that this book is not a complete . I would return a ask for my money back but I have finish it . As I said not buying another Abbi Glines book for a long time if ever !#?#!?!

Shayna was not a good choice for Harlow.

I think the story would have been a lot more meaningful and heartwarming with the previous female leaders. Shayna is too cold and old sounding.

Entertaining

I think of all the couples from the Rosemary Beach series, Grant and and Harlow are probably my favorite.
The narrators were a perfect choice and I stayed interested the entire time.

Take a Chance

Grant Carter & Harlow Manning

I still loved this book I just didn’t love it as much as the other books. I think because there was just so much Nan and all her temper tantrums.

I enjoyed seeing Harlow become a strong character from where she was at the beginning of the book. She grew a back bone. Now it’s time for Grant to do the same.
Harlow has never asked for anything but to be first in someone’s eyes. And Grant did that for a short time.

Grant, I can understand why he wanted to back off when his feeling started to get stronger. Especially after everything he has been through his reasons are solid. But if you never let anyone in then your life would be pretty lonely.

I loved that Harlow showed him it was ok to not only let someone in but to love. The true test is faith. You can’t always live your life waiting and wondering what will happen in the future all we have is the here and now.

When the media finds out about Harlow and her past and her present it to much for all of them sure but this is where I wanted to smack Grant and shake some sense into the man.

Just a side note.. Kiro, broke my heart.
And I can’t wait for book 2 to see how this is all going to play out.

Awful female narrator

The book is okay, nothing special but I like the series. But the female narrator has very annoying voice and she speed reads through the best parts.
