What the Critics Say

"Woods spends some time catching up with the robust cast developed in earlier books, and Sarah and Travis frequently play second fiddle to Walter's self-discovery, unexpected pregnancies, the local real estate market, and other smalltown dramas. For longtime fans, however, the digressions have their own charm, and Woods never fails to come back to the romantic point." (Publishers Weekly)

    "Great Author - AWFUL Narrator"

I agree with the others who have complained about the narrator of these second 3 "Sweet Magnolia" books. She is awful. She makes all her variations of southern accents make the characters sound like fools. I was determined to listen to the books, so am bearing with it, but it is a real distraction. Janet Metzger, who narrated the first three books, was excellent. Why mess with a good thing? It really makes you wonder if the authors have any say at all in who narrates their books. I hope not, in this case.

I would still recommend the book as the story lines are really good. Love Sherryl Woods.

    "Narrator is PAINFUL"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A better narrator. Her accents are terrible. It would be better if she didn't try different voices.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sarah she is down trodden and turned her life around.

Would you be willing to try another one of Mary Robinette Kowal’s performances?

Yes only because I love the series but for no other reason. If it is a new author and she was the narrator I would find something else.

What character would you cut from Sweet Tea at Sunrise?

    None

    Any additional comments?

    No

"Story is great, not so the voice"
What did you like best about Sweet Tea at Sunrise? What did you like least?

I really liked how Sherryl Woods has brought in the 2nd set of Sweet Magnolias and what is taking place in their lives. Finding out how Sarah and Trevor finally made a life even though there were hurdles. Working through forgiveness etc.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Trevor because he wasn't giving up on Sarah.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Mary Robinette Kowal?

Someone who could handle the male voices without making them all sound slow and fake, and I did like how she made Rory Sue's voice work.

Do you think Sweet Tea at Sunrise needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I think there is a follow-up book and that should complete the series.

    Any additional comments?

I sometimes like a male voice when the man seems to be the main character.

    "Narrator"

I have enjoyed most of this series of the Sweet Magnolias but the narrator and let this book down. She does not seem to be able to change between the male and female voices. It is terrible and I considered not listening to the book but I like the story, she is letting it down.

    "ugh the narrator!"

The story was good. But it's so hard not to be destracted by the narrator. I would have rather her just read it with out the southern accents. She kept forgetting who she assigned what voices and kept switching them up. Plus she kept making all the men sound like they were all idiots. What a way to ruin a book. I would have enjoyed it more had it been another narrator or I had read it myself. Such a shame.

Her voice was awful when she went into character mode. As far as just reading it, she was okay, so so

"A GOOD STORY A TERRIBLE NARRATOR"
    Any additional comments?

I am still listening, but wondering when a good narrtor is going to come along. To be honest, I usually never write reviews, but this is harmful to the series.
