A Story of Faith

This is a well written story about faith and trust. I enjoyed the characters, and how they kept having faith when bad things happened. I love a good romance with some adventure, and this book has both! Another winner, Barbara Goss!

Good western romance

The was a good read/listen. Barbara Goss keeps you turning the pages to see what happens next. After witnessing her parents murdered by Indians, Susanna is placed in an insane asylum by her cousin. There she meets Carter and of course falls in love. The story has suspense and mystery.

Enjoyable

This was a long listen. However, the story was interesting as were the characters. The plot is interesting and will make you wonder what is going to happen next. It's hard to believe people can be as mean spirited as Cecilia was, but such is the way of some.

The narrative was ok; harder for me to listen to than others.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author and I'm voluntarily leaving this review.

I loved this story

This is definitely the best story by Barbara Goss that I have read so far. I loved the integrity displayed by Dr. Carter Harding and Susannah's absolute innocence and total trust in him.
Then there is Ben, a fellow inmate and Cecelia, Carter's so-called friend. These two are not such nice people.
This book is written in two parts and both are equally strong in storyline and were very easy to follow. The story is gripping, adventurous, romantic and has a religious undercurrent.
I loved it!

A Drama-Romance with Heart...

Such a unique premise. The cover is attractive, and the story just drew me right in. The protagonist's plight made my heart ache, but the redemption of her circumstances, the possibility of hope growing, was a pleasure. I wasn't particularly drawn to the vocal actor's take on the story. I could detect voice overs, and certain other personal things that were a distraction to me, but she represented the story in a manner that provided me the possibility to hear the story while doing my duties and while driving. Thank you.

True Western Love

Heart wrenching storyline with a true sweet love, I found it sweet and charming with a touch of crazy. ( you'll understand when you read it 😉)
The narrative was a little to slow for me, had a lovely voice just maybe a little to mellow/emotionless in my option.
But than again, I'm sure that's how they may have spoken back in the day.

Western Romance Full of Action

Sweet Susannah is only 17 years when Indians ride onto her family's farm and slaughter her father, mother, and four younger siblings. Shocked and fearful, she hides in a cornfield for two days waiting for help. With all her family dead, Susannah is sent away to live with a cousin, but the trauma has affected her so much that she can't speak without crying, and her nightmares keep the family awake at night. Her cousin's heartless wife insists that Susannah be sent away to an insane asylum.

At the asylum, Susannah meets Ben Turner, a pleasant young man who befriends her and helps her learn the asylum's ways. She also meets Dr. Carter Harding, who is the first to see that she isn't insane, only shocked and fearful of what she witnessed. Carter is drawn to her sweetness, candor, and determination and begins to develop feelings for her. Carter works to get her released and placed in a welcoming home with his brother and sister-in-law. Unfortunately, also visiting his brother's home is a woman from his past who is determined to have Carter for herself, or revenge herself by hurting those he loves.

This western romance was originally published in two parts, but is seamless in this narration. The writing is simple and straightforward. There were so many twists and turns it kept me interested to see what happened to Susannah next! I'm not sure I would call this a clean romance. While there were no detailed descriptions, there was a lot of sex, referring to sex, references to rape, attempted rape, and using sex as a tool. It was a bit jarring to read that next to so many references to God and prayer.

The narrator's voice was pleasant but incredibly slow. I turned the speed up to 1.25x and it was closer to a normal speed. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
