Publisher's summary

The most highly-anticipated novel in the Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series since Acheron is here—the unforgettable story of Styxx, Acheron's twin brother and one of the most powerful beings on earth

Just when you thought doomsday was over . . .

Centuries ago Acheron saved the human race by imprisoning an ancient evil bent on absolute destruction. Now that evil has been unleashed and it is out for revenge.

As the twin to Acheron, Styxx hasn't always been on his brother's side. They've spent more centuries going at each other's throats than protecting their backs. Now Styxx has a chance to prove his loyalty to his brother, but only if he's willing to trade his life and future for Acheron's.

The Atlantean goddess of Wrath and Misery, Bethany was born to right wrongs. But it was never a task she relished. Until now.

She owes Acheron a debt that she vows to repay, no matter what it takes. He will join their fellow gods in hell and nothing is going to stop her. But things are never what they seem, and Acheron is no longer the last of his line. Styxx and Acheron must put aside their past and learn to trust each other or more will suffer.

Yet it's hard to risk your own life for someone who once tried to take yours, even when it's your own twin, and when loyalties are skewed and no one can be trusted, not even yourself, how do you find a way back from the darkness that wants to consume the entire world? One that wants to start by devouring your very soul?

Sad!!!!!!!!!!!

Amazing...it takes a very special person to be able to write 145 chapters out of 150 chapter book about child and adult sex and physical abuse, it was a good book but a very very sad story, the people who deserved to be punished like (like the father, the uncle, the sister, they never got their just deserts, they died eventually but they died easy deaths, the uncle should have been tied down in the sahara desert while pigeons slowly picked and dined on his rectum, he was just killed in his sleep. The only reason why i finished the book is that i had to read that styxx finally found some happiness and the suffering had stopped but the ending did not nearly make up for a long long life of pure agony. Hopefully in the near future we can get a good story called styxx and acheron living a happy life as brothers keeping the world intact and protecting beings from the bad gods, demons and other unearthly creatures that are trying to wreak havoc

Right up there with Acheron!

Truly epic love story with NO dull moments for me. I listened to Acheron first, thoroughly enjoyed it and was curious about Styxx. For anyone hesitating about the different reader... I ended up preferring Mr. Berman's performance to that of the reader for Acheron (can't remember the reader's name). I was REALLY hesitant at first, and almost didn't get Styxx based on the sample reading. I am so glad I gave him a chance, because he brought the characters to life and gave them real personalities. This was a fantastic way to follow up Acheron (speaking as someone unfamiliar with any of Ms. Kenyon's other work) and it seams unfair to read Acheron and NOT read Styxx.

So it's not going to be on University required reading lists and didn't win the Pulitzer...I wasn't expecting such. What I was looking for was pure escapist fantasy with some nicely done erotica and an ideal mix of tragedy, drama and enough laughs for me to say comedy, too, and this delivered in spades.

A Very Hard Story to Live Though.

Styxx is dragged through hell repeatedly throughout this story and this takes him from a character that we've hated to one who is loved and respected. My one piece of advice is don't listen to this in public if you have a tendency to cry with or for a character.

Brutal but mostly worth it

Yikes I thought Acheron's book had too much brutality in it. I had no idea it could get worse?! I do listen for escapism and romance, so this was hard to stomach for how long and intense the abuse goes on. Will not be re-listening to this one. I survived it and will continue with the series, but once is more than enough.

This was brutal.

I listen to over 200 books a year and this is the first I needed moral support to read. After the first 2 hours I was already going crazy. If you thought Acheron was bad, it has NOTHING on Styxx. Like a typical Kenyon it is worth it by the end, but what a journey to get there.

Excellent job done by Fred Berman.
