This audiobook was gifted to me by the author.
Having lost her husband when their home was destroyed in a fire, almost two years ago, Kate has decided it's time to reclaim her personal life and signs up with the matchmaking service, Toujour. She's more than a little scared but has been assured that the service will only match her with men who are compatible with the profile she has completed. The service has matched her profile with a few men to start, and Kate has chosen her first date. She feels like she has met the man before; though she can't remember exactly where, or when, she feels comforted and safe when she picks his photo from all the others.
Taylor is tired of dating women who only want to spend his money and be seen with a good looking fireman. He has turned to Toujour to help him find someone to share his life and dreams with, who cares about the same things he does. Someone like the woman he'd consoled a couple of years ago after pulling her deceased husband from their burning home. When Toujour contacts him with a match for his profile he realizes that the woman he's been matched with is that same widow. Knowing that she obviously did not recognize him from that horrible night, Taylor has second thoughts about agreeing to the date, but he was very attracted to her when he'd first met her and would really like a chance to get to know her. He decides to take her out and leave the outcome to fate.
Fate definitely has a plan for them. There are obstacles to be overcome for both of them and neither is sure if they can get over them or if they truly want to. On the journey they will enjoy each other’s company and get to know each other’s quirks, likes, and dislikes. They encounter joy, peace and happiness together, but there are also times of pain and suffering. Can it all be balanced out or will they have to go their separate ways to find the happiness they both seek?
This audiobook kept me listening almost straight through. Granted, it is a novella, so it was not long, but I enjoyed every minute of it. The narration was wonderful and well-done, giving definite distinction to each character and keeping the story flowing smoothly beginning to end. I am looking forward to listening to more from Lindzee Armstrong, and this series.
I loved how down to earth the story and characters were, and yet the story was so inspiring. I felt like a friend was telling me their own story, one that I could feel for them and then cheer for them. A story that you just longed for a happy ending for both Kate and Taylor.
I have to admit that my favorite character was Corey - while not a major character by any means - as Taylor's friend, he was a loyal friend but wasn't afraid to give it to him straight. After all, it's all because of Corey that Taylor signed up with TouJours. I'd say that he has a Best Man request in his future.
I am torn on this one - I loved the scene after Taylor cut his date with Kate short to go to the firehouse and cover the shift for one of his fellow firefighters (Doug). Corey is there waiting for his shift to end. Taylor fills Corey in on the latest on him and Kate - and Corey lays into Taylor on what an idiot he is being. Or the very end when Taylor and Kate are on a hike that leads to the most breathtaking view. Still have chills thinking about that scene.
The scene was Kate's date at the Italian restaurant with the aggressive, self-obsessed bachelor #2 (aka Randy) when Kate went into anaphylactic shock due to her peanut allergy. As fate would have it, Taylor was there waiting for his food to take home - he witnessed her attack as her date was freaking out. Taylor took control of the situation and even went to the ER with her. So sweet!
One of my biggest issues with audio books is the narrator - I was pleasantly pleased with the narration by Tiffany Williams. She did a lovely job of telling the story. I was gifted a copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Strike a Match is a novella about two people who are looking for love and using a dating service to help them. Kate and Taylor actually met before under some intense circumstances, so when they are matched, Kate is a little offset by the previous meeting. No second date for that guy! However, Taylor keeps showing up in her life and doing good deeds. Taylor may be a little too into the "hero part" and trying to save everyone. He's got some work to do on himself before they can ever have a lasting relationship. Will he see the error of his ways and what he's doing to those he loves?
This is a very well written, entertaining, clean introduction into what should be a very good series. The narration by Tiffany Williams is superb.

Overall I was very pleased by this book. This book is a clean romance novella, that is the prequel in the “No Match for Love” series by Lindzee Armstrong. I listened to this book on Audible, narrated by Tiffany Williams.
As mentioned, this is a novella prequel to a series of books. This happened to be the first book in the series that I have had any experience with. As a novella, I expected it to be a bit faster paced; with a less depth in characterization and storyline. But I didn’t want to put this down, and kept listening to the book all the way through to the end.
I also enjoyed the characters that Lindzee Armstrong created in this novella. I am looking forward to getting to know the extra characters in this series, as I hope some of them are in the future books. For a novella, the main characters were well developed and I wanted them to succeed. I felt compassion for Kate and Taylor dealing with their own unique emotional situations. Kate dealing with the guilt over feeling free after the death of her emotionally abusive husband. Taylor dealing with his alcoholic twin sister.
I thought that the scenery and world that Lindzee Armstrong created here was well developed and descriptive. Nice description of the places the characters are interacting. The bowling alley, restaurants, fire station, and even the Toujour location we well described so you could get a clear picture in your head. I liked how you could feel the changes in the house from the time of the fire to the new house being built.
I listen to a great deal of books. A key to a good audio book is the narration. While a book can be well written and lovely; a poor narration can make it difficult and plodding to get through. Tiffany Williams does a great job at the narration for this novella. It is well paced and pleasing to listen to.
Enjoy reading fiction, thrillers (JD Robb), romance, military and comedy (Evanovich). Listen to Audiobooks on treadmill and long road trips!
Decent plot. Enjoy this series, but this one seemed to lack as much depth as previous books. Narrator able to adeptly voice all characters.
