Stranger in My Arms

“Lady Hawksworth, your husband is not dead.” With those words, Lara’s life turned upside down. Hunter, Earl of Hawksworth, had been lost at sea. Or so she’d been told. Their unhappy marriage - with its cold caresses and passionless kisses – was over. But now a powerful, virile man stood before her, telling secrets only a husband could know, and vowing she would once again be his wife in every way.

While Lara couldn’t deny that this man with the smoldering dark eyes resembled Hunter, he was attentive and loving in ways he never was before. Soon she desperately wanted to believe, with every beat of her heart, that this stranger was truly her husband. But had this rake reformed – or was Lara being seduced by a cunning stranger?

"ONE OF HER BEST YET, I COULDN'T STOP LISTENING"

I really loved this listen, you can't help routing for Hunter - he was soooo patient, kind, thoughtful, sex starved but Lara just wouldn't be swayed by his pursuits and promises - stupid stupid woman. This is how to write a love story, it was Regency romance at it's best.

I thought I needed sleep but this listen proved me wrong.

LK is an automatic download for me and she just seems to be getting better and better then couple that with Rosalyn Landor's narration and you've got a match made in heaven.

Worth a credit? Absolutely yes, I'm one happy happy member.

    "Unlikeable heroine"

As I listened to the book, I hoped Lara's cold, self-righteous character would soften as she got reacquainted with her returned-from-the-dead husband. Unfortunately, she never does soften. The author attempts to make her more acceptable to the reader by extolling all Lara's charitable works, but it was all too perfect, and too boring! And while Lara has time to sympathize with the orphaned children, she can't find any time to be charitable to her own husband. Instead she makes everything "all about Lara."

Hunter is a great character, and I longed to love the book simply because he was in it! Unfortunately even Hunter couldn't save this book from being a trial.

The narrator was fine, except her voice for Hunter made him sound gruff and old.

    "My OCD Flaring Big Time"

What a painful experience I had listening to this sickeningly horribly boring book. Forever the optimist, I had to finish it. I had to believe it would turn around. Several hours in, there was no turning back. I tortured myself for several more days and nights through the uninteresting repetitive "passionate" parts. Ugh!
    In the end WHO CARES???
What a terrible waste of precious life listening to this dumb story.

    "A steamy little romance."

This book started out a little slow and cliche but ended up getting better as the characters were developed. I was never sure what the final verdict would be as to whether the man returned from the dead was indeed the Earl of Hawksworth or an imposter. I would give it 3.5 stars. My only complaint is that the heroine is annoying at times when it comes to intimacy with her husband and that fact is beaten into the readers brain without mercy. I felt like the author did a great job presenting life in the ton and their shallow, self-absorbed existence. Spousal abuse and the plight of orphans plays a interesting part of the plot and made the romance a little deeper than most. I listened to it on audio from audibles and the narrator did a really good job.

When I clean, drive or exercise I listen to romance. The steamier the better but it must have a great story as well!

"WOW! I want a stranger too!"

I decided to get this because of the narrator, Rosalyn Landor. She is amazing, I love the way she speaks and brings the characters to life. This story was fabulous. I was glad to see that it started right at the heart of the story instead of a slow build up. Also, their are several twists and turns along the way. I had no idea what was going to happen! This was decidedly a keeper and one that I'll listen to many time.

    Any additional comments?

Any book that Rosalyn landor reads is always good. She reads each character wonderfully. The story was enjoyable and even though a bit predictable I still liked it. It kept my interest and couldnt wait to find out the ending.

    "A bit predictable"

I thought this one was predictable and the main character a little too rigid to be likable. But since it is Kleypas, you know it will be a nice listen even if it isn't her best heroine.

"Great story with a few too obvious turns"

I enjoyed this story very much, though there were times I wanted to bang the female lead (Sara) on the head for her slowness to catch on. However, I guess her situation justifies her hesitations, and she comes through in the end. A couple of the plot twists were either too obvious or too clever by half, but it still was an engaging story with attractive and likable characters. Some of Kleypas's dialogue had me laughing out loud, which is one of my favorite features of her writing.
