Billy Blade is a hardworking, hard living, razor sharp musical force. Mysterious behind his dark shades, the rough around the edges Texan mesmerizes with his haunting harmonica and tantalizes with his dangerous looks and smooth country charm. His latest album is topping the charts. He's the newly crowned King of the Bacchus Krewe. He's definitely living the rock star dream.
Exotic Creole beauty Thyme Bellerose couldn't be more content. She has it all. An adoring grandmother. A handsome Tulane medical student beau. A satisfying job in the heart of New Orleans' French Quarter. Her life is as rich as the ice cream she creates. She's got everything under control.
But control is an illusion. Dreams can turn into nightmares. And now during Mardi Gras, otherworldly powers stand ready to shape their destinies in ways they could never imagine.
Shadow and light. Magic and mystery. Reality and myth. All come together in a place where rules bend and lines blur. Even those between life and death.

Intense.... Spell-binding... Revealing...
Why do I have to chose just 1??
Billy Blade, this man awakens with this listen, he's life is dark until he meets Thyme...
Thyme Bellerose, it was devastating to listen to what happened to her in book 1, so when she becomes more than what she ever was in this book & all because of the love she shares with Billy...
Morpheous, this man (what else can I call him??) is steadfast in his dedication in keeping Thyme safe in the Underworld, his love & loyalty for her is half of what helps her on this journey.
I loved so many of the characters, each were performed beautifully by both Wen & Kai, how can I choose just 1??
I started this audio book this morning & although I had to take a break a few times throughout the day, I had my headphones back on & finished it... within the day.
I will add that I was so enthralled in this book & didn't want it to be finished already, I'm hoping that there is a book 3 in the near future. Please let there be a book 3... I need to know what happens next. All the descriptions within the story, then Kai & Wen's magic added on top, made this so much more.
N.Y. Times Bestselling Author
Most definitely!! Listening to the book brings it more to life much more than I could ever imagine reading the book on my own.
The Tempest series also written by Michelle Mankin.
I have listened to many books narrated by Kai and Wen. Every book they read gets better and better. In fact, I found many new authors because of them. I have purchased book is solely on just wanting to listen to them. They read with emotion and passuon. And every character has their own voice. They are true storytellers. And listening to Wen's smokin' hot voice is just an added bonus.
There were many. Too many to count. This book if filled with sad and happy moments alike.
After listening to the first book I immediately purchased this one. I couldn't imagine this book being much better than first, but it was. It was filled with love, sadness, hot sex, and lots of action, and beautiful poetry. Michelle Mankin is one of my favorite writers and I will read any book she releases. Her lyrical writing is nothing more than beautiful and she sprinkles magic over each page she writes.
The same goes for the narrators Kai Kennicot and Wen Ross. They bring such passion into every book they read. I will never get tired of listening to them.
This is one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s got everything I could want in a novel – characters I love, the struggle between light and dark, themes of integration and discrimination, a great love story with almost-insurmountable obstacles, and Greek mythology (which I never thought I’d like, but I love in this!), all set against the magical backdrop of New Orleans. Each chapter begins with either a quote or a stanza from a poem, which sets the stage perfectly, and this is backed by haunting music that reflects the tone of the story.
Rocker romances are my guilty pleasure, but this book is really a paranormal story. The country/rock star aspect is secondary and a minor detail to get Billy to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. I discovered Michelle Mankin’s Raging Tempest series a few months ago and fell in love with it. I didn’t think she could top it. But this, this is genius.
Some people may need a trigger warning for one scene. It’s actually glossed over and not graphic at all but gets mentioned again later in the book, again without details. There is graphic violence in the first part. If you’re squeamish or easily grossed out, you might want to skim it or skip ahead, but the story is definitely worth reading.
Of course, Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross do a fantastic job with the reading. They both put the perfect amount of pain, joy, or resignation in their voice, depending on the scene. I love the way their voices sound when they read the quote at the beginning of each chapter. It's perfect.
Eerie Immortal Romance
The Mardis Gras Parade :)
Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross breathe life into the characters. Without their amazing performance I do not think I would get all the subtleties in the different character relationships. They make the listening experience both a joy and an addiction every time! The addition of poetry and eerie music really lent ambience to the listening experience. I can't wait to hear what they narrate next!
Yes I wish I could have! It was an amazing listen. Very unique :)
This series must be listened to (or read) in order. The first book is Strange Magic Part One. This is the second (and hopefully not last) book in the series. I will be very sad if this is the end of the series!
Thyme is a Shade and she has been searching for ten years for her lost fiance. Her apartment in the French Quarter is her refuge and Haunt. Usually she cannot wait for a new tenant to leave... But not this time. Billy intrigues her. Does he really see her? Is it worth breaking the rules to spend time with him? Why is she so drawn to him? Is their burgeoning relationship worth risking obliteration over?
Billy is finally getting used to the ghosts. Finding out his new digs in New Orleans are Haunted should have him running for the hills. But he isn't. After catching sight of the beautiful ghost girl he is shocked to see that she is the woman who was begging him to save her during his last concert. How can that be when she died over ten years ago? Why does she make him feel so much more than any other woman ever has? How can he be with a Shade? Can he right the wrongs that stole her from him before they even met?
***This series is suitable for adult listeners (or readers) who enjoy urban fantasy filled with Old Gods and creatures of legend with suspense, intrigue, black magic, thrills, mystery and horror as well as a dash of romance :)
They were equally as good but having the audio brought it to life even nore!!
I loved it all the characters have seemed so real and its the perfect twist of romance and paranormal!
It gives the characters a voice and brings them to life even further than the print version does!

I rooted for these characters the whole way through. I loved this story. It was light and heartfelt. The narrators did an amazing job. I fully recommend this.
The voices that Kai and Wen put to the characters. They made listening to the story enjoyable.
The love story between Billy and Thyme. Also when everything started to unravel.
