Publisher's Summary

He answers to no one... No one has ever truly touched Jack Travis's heart or soul...until Ella Varner comes along. She appears one day on his doorstep with fury in her eyes and a baby in her arms. Her troubled sister is the mother and, according to Ella, Jack Travis is the father. But when Ella demands that Jack take responsibility for the first time in his life, he ends up taking much more than that.... She trusts no one.... Ella Varner is responsible and controlled. Her childhood taught her that love is fleeting and best avoided. That is, until baby Luke appears on her doorstep after her reckless sister, Tara, abandons him. What Luke needs now is stability, and Ella's determined to do what is best for him. As her bond with the helpless child grows stronger every day, Ella goes to Houston in search of the father. What she finds there will change her life forever... And when things heat up between these two, the time for talking is long gone... Lisa Kleypas lets the sparks fly once again in a novel featuring the larger-than-life Travis family. Full of sizzling sensuality and undeniable heart, her storytelling will grab hold of you from the very beginning.

    Story
    "3 1/2 stars and entertaining"

The book started out a little strange and did not have much hope, but as it progressed it was entertaining.

Ella Varner is an advice columnist, lives in Austin, Texas with her vegan boyfriend Dane and seems very happy with her life and relationship as is. All changes will change with a call from Mommy Dearest beckoning her to Huston to deal with Ella's younger sister, Tara and her new baby, Luke. Mommy Dearest wants nothing to do with a baby Luke and forces Ella take the baby. Now Ella’s life is filled with bottles, diapers, little sleep and a boyfriend that does not want a baby to interrupt his life. Trying to locate the father of the baby, Jack Travis name comes up as a potential possibility. Willing to take a paternity suit we find out from Tara he is not the dad leaving the door wide open for Ella and Jack.

Emily Durante did a decent job narrating the books – I thought her accent was appropriate for a Texas base book.

I love science fiction. I love the reluctant hero. Characters that try to do the right thing no matter what.

    "Just okay"
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It was so predictable and smooth....

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Didn't really like her voice or her characters.

    Any additional comments?

Not Lisa's best effort...her historicals are better.

    "Smooth Talking Stranger"

I loved this storyline and the other two books in the series were great too. I give the story 5 stars .... the narrator gets 1 stars. Her accent was fake and forced compared to the other two narrated books. I wouldn't waste your money on the audible book. Buy the book and read it... I did and enjoyed it much more than the audible version..

    "Enjoyable read"

Pretty standard romance story. Kind of predictable, but the likable factor of the main characters makes up for that. Good narration.

    Story
"Not as impressed as I wanted to be"

Normally I rate Kleypas novels very high. This one disappointed me some. For one thing, I was not happy with the narration. It just wasn't as good as I think someone else might have been with the accents

The story disappointed because the characters weren't all very realistic. Ella supposedly had overcome a really destructive childhood, but struck me as being a pathetic and willing victim of her mother and sister and boyfriend. When she turns from that particular boyfriend to one who is a major Alpha male, the switch isn't realistic. .

The plot itself could have been better played out in my opinion. Of course it is only my opinion.
