Megan Hunter has worked hard to get back on her feet, leaving the nightmare of her teenage years behind. The last thing she wants or needs in her life is a man. But when she is attacked by someone from her past, a scarred stranger intervenes, saving her life and that of her little girl. Looks can be deceiving, for despite the man's rough appearance, she feels safe with him. And for the first time in her life, she knows the stirrings of desire.
Nathaniel West paid a high price serving with the Marines in Afghanistan. He returned to his family's ranch in the Colorado mountains to heal - and be alone. Disfigured as he is, he has put all thoughts of sex and romance aside. But something about Megan brings him back to life, heats his blood, makes him feel like a man again. As danger pursues her, and the truth about her past is revealed, he vows to protect her - and to heal her wounded spirit. But confronting the past is never easy - especially when it's carrying a gun. Megan will have to learn to trust Nate to survive and to claim a passion that is much more than...skin deep.

Make no mistake between my personality and my attitude. My personality is who I am, my attitude depends on who you are.........
Pamela Clare is one of my favorite authors and this series is incredible!!! It is probably best that all of the books in this series didn't release at the same time, because I would have lost my job and entire life put on hold!!
Also, Kaleo Griffith makes this series as well; yum yum yum!!! Thank you!!!!
I love being swept away by a new romance and thankfully Audible's ever growing Library means I get to indulge myself over and over again
Everyone loves a hero and that's exactly what Nate is but unfortunately he's been mentally and physically scarred in Afghanistan, Megan has mental scars too so when they meet sparks fly and it's followed by a tender, sweet, emotional, powerful romance.
Nate gives Megan the time, patience and support needed for her to overcome her past and finally move on and she shows him tenderness and compassion as she sees past his scarred body - so really they heal each other (with the help of a snow storm and Jack). There's also danger, tension, action suspense and drama from Megan's drugged up ex and the villains he owes money to and despite having so many Alpha men around willing and ready to protect her she still becomes a victim of violence once again.
Some loveable supporting characters and get your tissues ready for a tearjerker of an epilogue.
There's an additional bonus short story (about 30 mins) about some of the I Team making a beer run in the middle of having a family BBQ which is hilarious with plenty of action too that's a great little addition to an already perfect listen.
Worth a credit? Oh Yes it's a must have.
Yes, and have. Would have liked the story to be longer, more detailed like others. Glad author wrote about people that weren't directly members of I Team but yet related. Narrator does a wonderful job with voices and conveying emotion.
There are many memorable moments, one that comes to mind is Emily's owie remark and Nates's reaction. Nates' sensitivity and understanding of Megan past and Megans of Nate's trauma.
Really like that characters from previous books reappear in later books/stories.
Seemed odd to think of Zack in a suit.
I have listened to all of the I team series, Kaleo Griffiths performance is always outstanding.
I hope there are many more books in the series. I would like to read a story that highlights Holly, Juaquine, Tom (do only 20-30 year olds fall in love?) others...
Would also like to see/read that new members join the team. I would even like to read more stories about "the guys" and even the lady investigators working together.
Sassy dialogue, humor, and a great reader are important to me.
this is a good one, not as dark as the other stories. A bit lighter over all. Beware, like other PC stories, there are graphic paragraphs that always pain a strong violent picture. These can stay with you for a bit.
this is the sister of Hunter's story. Both are a good listen
Nate's dad. this was a good story as more male voices that Kaleo does so dreamily!
this was a short good listen that can encourage others, YOU always have a second chance to do the right thing.
I own striking distance, but have had to stop already. I am into ch 6 and it does not seem a good listen for me, the inner thoughts in Spanish is taking away from the outline of the story. I maybe burned out on PC novels
This is a great addition to the I-team series as a short novella. I adored Hunter in book 3, so choosing Megan as a side story was spot on. You can't help but fall in love with Nate, just like all the other men in this series. There's an additional quick story beyond the epilogue that's good too...more Darcangelo and Hunter...I couldn't ask for more!
Love Romantic Erotica with a twist , thrill, suspense and a great story !
I really did love this story! Didn't care for the narrators "Megan" voice , but I have enjoyed almost of his other voices. This series is really good for me. This book was too short ! But understandable with the "Megan" story.
Really would love there to be more I-Team books!!!
First book for this author and this narrator form.
That means I wasn't really familiar with the background story. I don't know that that hindered the overall story for me.
I know this was to be an angsty story, the setup, the background given, all lead to angst. But the narrator, gee, he just seemed too, too angst ridden. I just generally did not like his performance. His child voice made me want to disconnect my auditory nerve. It was just horrible. And yeah, "she" didn't have many lines, but what "she" did have would take me totally out of a story I wasn't really into in the first place.
Yes, long series and I should start at the beginning. But seeing a Kindle/Audible special made me decide to jump in and see if I liked it enough to start at the beginning. Based on this, I would have to say no, I won't be investing.
The writing was fine, competent from what I could tell, just not for me. I like a lot less angst and narrators who can voice the characters in the story in a semi-realistic way.
I know that the narrator is a favorite of many. Based on this narration, though, I will be very careful about buying any more of his performances.
I will say I enjoyed the bonus story a lot more than the main story. The only reason I even listened to it was because I was driving and disconnecting was more of an issue than letting it run.
