Join Jake and Chelsea, Stanton and Sofia, Brent and Kennedy as they navigate the hilarious and heartwarming hurdles of love, life, and the law in this final addition to the Legal Briefs series.
There was a time when Jake Becker had it all together. He was controlled, driven, ruthless - in and out of the courtroom.
Then, six irresistible orphans and their heartbreakingly beautiful aunt crashed into his perfectly ordered life. They changed everything. They changed him. Now he's a husband, an upstanding member of society, a father figure - a family man.
And he's pretty damn good at it.
Sure, he has to referee sibling smackdowns, relearn algebra, ensure his clients stay out of jail, and keep his wife happy - but it finally feels like he's got it together again....
So of course something has to screw it all up. It's huge. Life changing. Kind of terrifying.
And it will be the most amazing, perfect thing he'll ever do.

My feelings when I finished this audiobook were the same of when I read this novella: I NEEDED MORE! I repeated it and enjoyed it one more time because this novella is just perfect!
Sebastian York was perfect in Sustained, and he was even more perfect in this audio. There’s no doubt he did a great Jake, but I loved him more as Chelsea and the kids.
My favorite part of Sebastian’s performance was…. Well, that’s hard to choose, because I loved the 2 hours and 24 minutes of this audio. The sex scenes were hotter in Sebastian’s voice, the funny moments with the kids and friends were funnier and the heart touching moments with Chelsea were more beautiful.
The judge, Raymond scared and the heart to heart chat between Jake and Chelsea!
Perfection!! this audiobook was perfection!!
I loved everything about Sidebarred . Jake & Chelsea, the kids, the pregnancy, and the little drama that was throughout the novella. Of course the cameo of the other two couples was amazing as always. When Brent made appearance, I was jumping up and down of excitement. I just love him like crazy. And my favorite moment of all was with all the family together. I was laughing my ass off with all the craziness of these kids. Emma managed to write a scene with six kids talking at the same time and I felt like I was watching a tennis match, reading everything what they were saying, yelling, and their reactions! *chuckles* It was so funny. And what Jake said to all this was the cherry on top:
“I think that went well.”
LOL! That scene was so funny I even read it out loud to my mom—actually, I translated it to Spanish, and she was cracking up with me.
The epilogue and the extended epilogue and the extra extended epilogue—yes, Emma put it all in less than 100 pages, believe me—were all perfect. I couldn't get enough of it. I reread the extended epilogue of Appealed and then repeated the epilogues of Sidebarred and I couldn't stop smiling. Like I said: PERFECTION!
Sustained was the most amazing book and I'm THRILLED that we got to catch up with Jake and Chelsea and the whole gang with this novella.
I rarely give novellas 5 stars because they usually leave me wanting more. And while I could never get enough of reading about this family, Sidebarred filled up my heart and left me smiling and satisfied.
Sidebarred is told from only Jakes POV. Emma Chase has really nailed the male POV and I love being in Jake's head. He is such an awesome hero.
What I loved about this book:
~The writing. I was sucked in and couldn't stop turning the pages.
~ The feels. Seriously. I laughed OUT LOUD many times. Funny scenes, sexy scenes, heart wrenching scenes, happy scenes. I felt SO much while reading this little nugget.
~ Jake. It warrants repeating. Jake is so awesome. I especially love the scenes with Jake interacting with the kids. Him braiding hair, giving sex talks, easing Raymond's fears....SWOON. Seriously, I could not be more in love with this fictional character.
~ Chelsea. She is also a pretty amazing heroine. I love that she is strong and challenges Jake when he gets all caveman. (But I also love that he gets all caveman over Chelsea.)
~ The kids. This story would not pull at my heart without EVERY SINGLE ONE of the 6 kids. They all have different personalities. They all bring out something different in the story. Even if you don't like kids, you can't help but fall in love with these kids.
~Narration. I read the book first, but HAD to get the audio. This is my favorite way to re-read a book and Sebastian York played Jake perfectly. PERFECTLY. I love his narration in general. But awesome narration + awesome story = absolute perfection.
What I didn't like about the book: not a thing!! I loved every second!!!
Bottom line: Sustained and Sidebarred are hands down one of my most favorite reads this year. PLEASE read Sidebarred, but start with Sustained.
Make no mistake between my personality and my attitude. My personality is who I am, my attitude depends on who you are.........
Sebastian York could read a medical dictionary and I would thoroughly enjoy it! I truly love him sarcasm through the stories!!
I like to read! When I do other things (ie: driving, laundry, cooking) I feel like I should be reading. Hence why I love audio books.
Damn I love Jake Becker!!! It also helps the Sebastian York was the narrator.
It was nice to see the whole gang again. I love those kids!!!
Loved the epilogue!
Everything about this was WIN WIN WIN for me!
I really enjoyed getting to hear more about this "family"! This series is funny, the laugh out loud kind, hot and sexy. But then again, when is Sebastian York not sexy?? uh, Never! Definitely worth the money and time!!
It's no shocker this novella was perfection. Jake and Chelsea are my favorite couple from this series, along with their tribe of hilarious little troublemakers! As always Sebastian York rocked the narration;I loved every moment of this sweet story.
This addition to Jake and Chelsea's story from Sustained was a great ending to the Legal Briefs series. Thank you Emma Chase and Sebastian York!!!
I really enjoyed this series, but Jake and reading by Sebastian York were best. This final novella with one last miscue by Jake and bringing all characters to end was a nice conclusion.
Love, love, love Jake. Funny, Frank and Loyal.
Really channels Jake well - great read.
Funny as all books were. Really enjoyed the "endings" for entire group.
