Publisher's Summary

Can a woman find two Alpha soul mates in one lifetime?

Talyn Phisher is a counselor in a world that has been turned on its ear by an unthinkable discovery: vampires roam among humans.

If all this upheaval was not enough, Talyn's body is changing. Signs that something is seriously wrong plague her. Having been told she's barren and there's no hope - Talyn still longs for a family of her own, though the stories she hears from clients tell her happiness is a long shot.

Talyn wants that shot. She yearns for a man who will put her first - for who she is.

Until a stalker's pursuit threatens everything close to Talyn's heart.

When Talyn feels her life is in imminent danger, she reaches out in desperation to the Final Enforcement, an elite, fringe group of the police who do more than take the law into their own hands.

Only to discover Talyn isn't what she thinks she is.

And neither is the one who stalks her.

Shifter is the first volume of six episodic novelettes in the Alpha Claim serial.

    "Shifter: Alpha Claim 1"

This book was a short story about a female hybrid human / lycan who hasn't been changed yet. First in the series, might be worth litening to more if this is your genre. I'd give it a go.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.

Shifter is an explicit adult supernatural romance/erotic thriller that's relatively well written but contains elements that are a bit too similar to television's "True Blood" (such as the people who like vampires being called Fang Bangers).
Having heard the first four stories in this six-episode tale, it weaves an interesting who'll-do-it tale that plays on the fantasy of having two people fight over you. In this instance however, the men fight over the female lead for sex. The dubious setup prevents her from just being a piece of meat however, because it's only through sex that her life can be saved as her body transitions into something new!
Tamara Rose Blodgett and Marata Eros make a good writing team and provide enough intrigue to keep the story interesting across the multiple episodes. Narrator Holly Elise does a fine job, however this is one book that could have benefited more from a male reader. The reason for this is that the story unfolds through the first-person view of multiple characters. We learn immediately that the main character is female, but it's almost an hour into the book before we discover the second perspective is being told by a male. By then I'd incorrectly assumed I was listening to a lesbian love story!!
This review copy audiobook was provided by the author/narrator/publisher free of charge via Audiobook Boom, along with volumes 2, 3 and 4. I'm keen to see how it all winds up over the final two volumes, which is a recommendation in itself.

    "Short intro to series"

Dr. Talyn Phisher is having a bad day. With her body feeling like it's about to implode, patients who have seriously damaged childhood, a possible gym stalker, mysterious blue eyes and not enough Ben and Jerry's, it's not looking good.

Merck is a changer, a protector. A Lycan who helps his female changes cross over, but it's the first time he has been assigned an older female to change. Even worse one who is going into heat and who he is beginning to have strong emotions about.

This part of the series served as an introduction to these characters and their world. They don't interact much until the end so we are left in the dark about their relationship if it goes to that.

The narration was unfortunately at times stilted and felt robotic especially with Talyn voice. I found that to annoy me a bit and just struggled through to the end. It was better with The male voices, but I found the overemphasizing of the genitalia in the dirty sense to be over the top and cringeworthy. The story in itself was okay and I would listen or read the next in it.

I received an audible copy of this book for my honest opinion.

    Narrated by: Holly Elise

I enjoyed the story but really had a hard time getting around the narration. The story was a well written love story with well-developed characters and great twists throughout.
I enjoyed the story and give it 5 stars, but the narration is a generous 1 star. Overall; I rate Shifter Alpha Claim audio book with 3 Boundless Star book. I recommend the paperback or e-book to others readers; anything but audio and you will enjoy the book much more than I.

    "Well-Written Shifter Serial"

Quick tip: Alpha Claim: Vampire is set in the same world and precedes this serial, Alpha Claim: Shifter. It is not necessary to have listened to that one first, though it is good, so why not enhance your experience. I like the Vampire serial, but I like this story even better. Our h is a psychiatrist who, unknowingly, is also a shifter hybrid about to change, though quite a bit later in life than what is the "norm." Her protector/changer is combating his feelings for her, and while I see where it's going, it looks like it will be a fun ride getting there.

The narrator is OK as far as her voices go and would have earned 3 stars, BUT the sheer number of mispronounced words and the many times, I had to kind of stop and replay a sentence in what I felt was "the way it SHOULD have been read" all became very distracting. If it were not for the strength of the story and writing, I would have given up. The lack of subtlety in the inflection, I can kind of get past (though, it's only a couple of hours long, so I'm thinking reading it through prior to recording wouldn't be too much to ask…), but what I really can't deal with is mispronouncing simple words, like "assess." The voices were good, and a bit of preparation, including Googling pronunciations and some editing would make a world of difference.

In spite of the many "unhelpful" votes on other reviews that are honest about the narration (tell your friends to stop--it makes YOU look bad, not the reviewer), I truly hope that this narrator will take the criticism and do a better job with the rest of this serial because Marata Eros' writing is good, her stories are interesting and they deserve a bit more attention to detail. I received this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review.
