Publisher's summary

Elizabeth was a young widow with two small children when she met Congressman Richard Baker. Handsome and wealthy, with a sparkling public image, Richard seemed like the perfect man to provide the security that Beth and her kids were craving. But when she uncovers a dangerous secret about her new husband, Beth realizes he will go to any lengths - even murder - to keep it. After barely escaping with her life, she and her children flee. They eventually make their way to a secluded estate in the Pennsylvania countryside, where Beth dares to hope she has found a safe place at last....

Forced into retirement by an unexpected injury, Philadelphia homicide detective Jack O’Malley is mourning the loss of his career when his uncle abruptly dies, leaving Jack to dispose of his crumbling country house. Unbeknownst to him, his uncle engaged a caretaker just before his death, a mysterious woman with two children and a beautiful face that haunts his dreams. Determined to know her, Jack begins an investigation into Beth’s past. When he uncovers the shocking truth, and a local woman is viciously murdered, Jack puts his own life on the line to keep Beth and her children safe.

Nothing outstanding

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I enjoyed the book..but would probably read it next time to see if it was better....it seemed only so so to me.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I enjoyed that it wasn't immediately revealed who she was running from. or why.

Would you be willing to try another one of Amy Rubinate’s performances?

No. I tried really hard to find a way to describe what bugged me about the narrator. She sounded like a collage Sorority sophomore reading in class to her hunky, older professor who she is trying to impress.

Did She Can Run inspire you to do anything?

Not listen to the other buy a narrator...

Great story but annoying narration.

One of the first books I listened to on Audible was narrated by Amy Rubinate and I swore I wouldn’t listen to another one. She sounded like a shy debutante so I figured it was just the character. Unfortunately, that is her normal voice. Her character voices are fine but her normal voice with its lisp and trailing sentences is very annoying. Loved the story and the ending, just hard to listen to.

Great story

So good to see the growth and strength that Beth gained in her time with Jack. He was so good for her and her children. Just as they were good for him. They healed each other and overcame all the evil that was threatening to take Beth away.

Good book but narration was lacking

Story started out a little slow but quickly grew on me. Enjoyable characters but the narrator wasn't right for this book.

It was good

I like the story line. However, the narrator was not as good as the narrator for Leigh's other two series. I wish this story line would have intertwined with the other two series with Detective Dane. It was a good story tho.

Staying Focused

This is a great story!!! This author took great effort in crafting this tale of abuse, running and hiding, good people looking out for one another, murder and intrigue, and tires which go beyond blood. Very interesting characters with a great storyline, which has a smooth easy flow. Thank you Ms Leigh.

Fan

Story was excellent but the reader sounded like a twelve year old. Hard to imagine when a man was speaking with such a young sounding voice. Could get a better reader voice for any other books I've said enough but the rating page won't except my rating, I guess.

She Can Run

Whew, that was a story! This was quite the winding road of a story that covered a lot. My one disappointment was I knew from early on who the serial killer was but otherwise, quite a story! I do wish there was a little more at the end but otherwise, really enjoyable! The narration was also enjoyable, so much so, that I was really into the story during the serial killer end scene and a real life noise happened and almost caused a heart attack!

HORRIBLE NARRATOR

The only reason I kept listening is bc I liked the story. The narrator is the worst I've heard on audible and in no way will I be listening to another story by her again. I bought the second installment of this series but will be returning it. Story itself was predictable but still gripping.
