Publisher's summary

When his wife was murdered two years ago, Special Agent Levi Lazaro turned his back on everything he cared about. Ever since, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. Now he's finally uncovered the identities of those who killed his wife - and he's ready to destroy them at any cost. He won't let anything stand in his way - not even a beautiful NSA agent on a mission of her own.

Special Agent Selene Wolfe prides herself on being the best. Her fearlessness and quick thinking make her the perfect person to take down a deadly terrorist cell. But she needs Levi's help, and the moment he shows up, Selene knows her objectivity - and her heart - are in trouble.

As the two strike an uneasy alliance, Levi finds himself tormented by his desire for Selene - a feeling he thought long dead. But when their mission takes an unexpected turn, he finds himself at a crossroads. Can he put aside his need for revenge to save the woman who's reawakened his soul?

Excellent Story-Excellent Narration!

Wow I love this series. And I think this book is my favorite so far!. Loved Levi Lazaro, awesome character. He is smart, handsome and sexy. Selene is smart, sexy, strong and a total bad azz. Love her!

The story line and plot is great! Loved the back story of both characters. There is kidnapping, killing, special agents, undercover ops and action!

The chemistry between Levi and Selene is great. Real and not forced. Very genuine and believable. I was so glad that Levi's revenge didn't cause a bunch of angst and I can't be with you BS. What a relief. There are a couple of very good sex scenes too. Not a rated G book, but not erotica or BDSM either. Just very well written sex. Thank you!

There is a lot of great dialogue throughout the book. I really like this author's writing style. Always something happening and not a bunch of filler nonsense. The story flows very well and easy to follow.

I totally recommend all the books in this series.

As for the narration. It was fantastic! Love Sophie Eastlake narrating this series. She has a great reading voice. The men sound like men and everyone gets their own distinct voice. She reads with emotion as it is called for too. Just great all the way around.

Dangerous Love

Special Agent Levi Lazaro lost his wife and their unborn child. He's determined to have his revenge. As he works to track the madman responsible, he meets Selene, an uncover NSA operative, and they join forces. Can they stop this terrorist? Levi is a tortured soul who wants to deliver the fatal blow to the man who tortured and killed his wife. His hate has changed him. He has lost his empathy and his ability to love. Selene is an expert assassin and a brilliant agent. She will fight for her country and her people. She shares a special bond with Levi. The chemistry between them is amazing. When they're together, the atmosphere is electric. This story brought me to tears. I could feel Levi's pain and hate and it broke my heart. I wanted him to find peace and comfort with Selene. He endured so much. This story was a roller coaster ride filled with suspense. Shattered Duty is such a powerful story. The secondary characters were interesting and added to the drama.Katie Reus has outdone herself. The characters are strong and compelling and the ending took my breath away. Sophie Eastlake did an outstanding job bringing these characters to life. The combination of this powerful story and the emotional narration kept me enthralled from the first page. I loved Shattered Duty!

REVIEW:
I had the honor of listening to Shattered Duty on audible. This was my second time on this story. I loved it. Even though I knew what was going to happen I found myself holding my breath on each chapters. And yes there were some tears. I didn’t forget but I forgot how much one scene really affected me.
Sophie Eastlake does a great job as always bring Ms. Reus’ story to life. I truly enjoy having Ms. Eastlake reading me this story.

Original review
After the death of Levi’s wife this life spiraled down into a deep dark hole of despair. His only thought for the past two years was for revenge. Revenge at any cost, even his life.

As always Ms. Reus writes a story that keeps the pages turning and leaves you wanting to know what will happen next. I really enjoyed Levi & Selene’s story. They worked well together, even with the emotional baggage the Levi is carrying. I can say I was not expecting the ending. I had to reach for the tissues.

I can’t wait for the next book in the Deadly Ops series.

Solid, except the abuse of women is overdone

This was my favorite of the series, due in large part to Selene having depth and competence. The leads in the previous books were both damsels. Here, the author doesn’t give mere lip service to Selene being an NSA operative; Selene is actually skilled at spycraft. Yes, she’s a bit young at 23, but she’s got seven years of training under her belt. Also, she gives off a little Black Widow/Scarlett Johanson vibe, which helped sell the thriller side of the story.

Levi was dark, damaged and delicious. And older, at 33. I dug there whose-the-better-operative flirting. And hallelujah, I may have finally found a V card punching scene that wasn’t eye rolling. The ratio of intrigue to romance was more on the intrigue end. The romance was a little too insta-lust, insta-love. But, overall I enjoyed the chemistry between them during the slow burn to an action packed finish.

On the downside, I still find the narrator off for this type of book. She’s best suited for girly girls and seemed too slow and robotic on the intrigue and spycraft. Or, maybe it’s the clunky writing, which still starts off chapters by defining spy terms, some of which are so basic it feels like the author is insulting me (does she really think us listeners don’t know what “kidnap” or “mole” mean?).

My biggest annoyance in this book is the pervasive plot hangup of using abuse of women to create danger, angst, or motive. There’s kidnapping, prostitution, trafficking, abuse, torture, and murder of numerous women including Levi’s wife, the scientist’s daughter, the working gal used for undercover work, and of course of Selene. It felt like every single bad guy has at least one scene where he thinks or says something about the horrible things he’s done (or wants to do) to women. It would have been nice to have an operation where only Selene’s brains and brawn get used instead of her body being the focus. The small mercy is that all of this stuff is only threatened or vaguely described. This is a romance after all.

Great characters. Gives new meaning to Bond girl.

I bought this book and had it almost 3 weeks before I started it. The beginning premise was rather sad and I didn't think I would enjoy that kind of emotional turmoil. The Author took a different route than I was expecting and I really enjoyed the book and the characters. I still cried but not for the reasons I thought in the beginning. I recommend this book if you like spy, thrills, good guy bad guy and the lady who loves them

Outstanding narration

Excellent story telling and narration. Best book of series IMO. Didn't realize that Julia Whelan narrated as Sophie Eastlake but I knew that voice right away.

Best book of the series so far!

I'm completely in love with this book, it's absolutely my favorite of the series. I was excited to read Levi's story after hearing so much about him. The pain, rage, and emptiness he experienced really got to me, and I could almost feel the way Selene brought him back to life again. I love them together, and the ending had me crying happy tears.

Perfect

I love this book and this couple! Celine is a true Jane Bond and Levi, ohhh Levi! I am a true believer that the best romance books have a good enough plot that the couple doesn’t have To have stupid misunderstandings and drawn out stupid times away from eachother. Loved it!
