She was terrifyingly alone on a Texas highway, about to deliver her first child, when a rugged stranger in a pickup truck stopped to help her. Leigh Bransom had lost her husband eight months before when he was tragically killed on the job. Now a fateful meeting on a lonesome highway brought a new man into her life - one with secrets and the power to make her lonely once again.
A man who pursued a dangerous business, Chad Dillon kept his past a mystery. He was determined to make Leigh care for him, but there were no guarantees that his love could protect her from the very thing she feared most.

Devotee of multi-tasking, keen gardener and cross-stitcher. Now able to do both AND listen to stories at the same time. Bliss.
Shadows of Yesterday was originally published under the title of Relentless Desire in 1983. I hadn't realised it had been written that long ago until listening to the description of an outfit Leigh was wearing during a Christmas celebration and I had some rather disturbing flashbacks to the '80s (oh the horror!). I couldn't help but think that the story could have done with a bit of a revamp before being republished, to address the obvious changes in fashion (note to self, if ever I write a book never go into excessive fashion detail if attempting to write something not set in a specific time) and the leaps in communication technology.
I purchased this on sale, but even if I had paid full price I'd still have been happy that I had obtained this story. Joyce Bean was an excellent narrator.
I really enjoyed this book. It was sweet, not too complicated and easy to listen to. The narrator, Joyce Bean is one of my favorites. I highly recommend this book.
I grew up in Texas so I truly appreciate Sandra Brown's stories that take place is West Texas. The story is good. I liked all of the characters, but I wish some times that Sandra wouldn't repeat thoughts so much. Joyce Bean has such a way of bringing characters alive.
Say something about yourself!
Take out the excessive love scenes. Too much description, takes away from the imagination!
Actually, the beginning grabs your attention. The story line is interesting.
Be warned this is an old book re-released by the author that she wrote under a different name before. And it's got to be old when she gives a baby burbon and drives with a new born on her lap. For me, the toughest part was that this was in "mysteries" and is pure romance. The heroine irritated me with her lack of confidence, whining, fake morals, and way over thinking everything without trying to communicate with the hero. I skipped several chapters.
I'm glad I liked Sandra Brown's books before I listened to this one.
I think every verb and adjective in the dictionary was used in this book. Very annoying.
Sorry, It was so predictable and sugary it made me sick. I almost stop listening and went on to something else. I have had a lot of books that I didn't really enjoy but could tolerate and this fits into that category. It just didn't show me the level of writing and intrigue that I have come to expect from Sandra Brown and I am a BIG Sandra Brown fan but will admit that it is for the mysteries not the romance novels.
David Baldacci's Zero Day
I actually think the narrator was okay and did a pretty good job with the characters. She just didn't have a lot to work with.
I'm not really sure because none of them were that interesting except the parents.
Apparently Sandra Brown tweaked her novels as she got more experience writing because some her later mysteries were 5-stars. Of course there is still romance at the basis for many of them, but she is/could be a top notch mystery writer. Her ideas are superb and the execution is very good. I am probably not a romance novel Connoisseur.
"Shadows of Yesterday by Sandra Brown"
Since discovering Sandra Brown on Audible, I have loved this author. Shadows of Yesterday is the best of all I have read so far. The narrator's voice suits the characters, who are portrayed sympathetically and one feels part of the story as it unfolds. I listen to Audio books in bed and this one has been my first choice since I received it a month ago. I shall be buying Sandra Brown Romances as long as they are available on Audio.
