Publisher's summary

Something inhuman is stalking the frigid Alaskan wilds, leaving unspeakable carnage in its wake. For bush pilot Alexandra Maguire, the killings stir memories of a horrific event she witnessed as a child and evoke in her the inexplicable sense of otherness she has long felt within herself but never fully understood...until a darkly seductive stranger with secrets of his own enters her world.

Sent from Boston on a mission to investigate the savage attacks and stop the slaughter, vampire warrior Kade has his own reasons for returning to the frigid, forbidding place of his birth. Haunted by a secret shame, Kade soon realizes the stunning truth of the threat he faces - a threat that will jeopardize the fragile bond he has formed with the courageous, determined young woman who arouses his deepest passions and most primal hungers. But in bringing Alex into his world of blood and darkness, Kade must confront both his own personal demons and the even greater evil that could destroy all he holds dear.

Shades of Midnight

I am a reader and a Librarian--Personally I find all of Karen Marie Monings books an escape that I look forward to reading. I fly through each book only wishing it wouldn't end. Her books have a balance of plot, character development, adventure, action, and sex to keep you interested and wanting more. Excellent!

The chick is super annoying!!!

What disappointed you about Shades of Midnight?

I like this series but the herorine in this book is as annoying as nails on a chaulkboard. Too bad she didn't get drained in the end but you can't have everything.

The 2 main characters voices are annoying

In the last 2 books of the series, the female characters are ignorant. In this one book, Alex sounds ditzy and Cade sounds like a whiney little boy. I won't be finishing the series. The first 5 books are good.

poor narrator

The context of the Midnight breed series is fantastic but the narrator leaves much to be desired. Her voice is so flat and uninteresting it takes away from the storyline.

Not on of my Favorites, but it's good

Would you try another book from Lara Adrian and/or Hillary Huber?

Yes!

Would you be willing to try another book from Lara Adrian? Why or why not?

Yes, I love this series!

Any additional comments?

The romance was lacking a bit in this one compared to the others so far. A little too slow going, but the book was ok!

for vampire fans

I admit, I am not a fan of stories about vampires or zombies but decided I'd try this book once I'd started. I found myself wishing it to be over but when it got to the part where it the descriptions of the sexual encounter, it took on the feel of pulp fiction . I gave up. I'm not a fan of pulp romance novels or vampires. for others, it may well be a great read, but it just isn't my cup of tea.

Pretty good series but...

I do like the premise of series and the characters feel fairly real except for the constant tormented mindset of all the males and most of the females. The last two books, I easily skipped two hours in each book and didn't miss anything of importance. I think that the books would have been considerably better if they were 8 hours instead of 10.

I will read the next book in the series.
