Publisher's summary

When a mystery writer cries bloody murder, everyone blames her overactive imagination.

Thriller scribe Sophie Katz is as hard-boiled as a woman who drinks Grande Caramel Brownie Frappuccionos can be; maybe it's from a lifetime of fielding dumb comments about her half-black, half-Jewish ethnicity. ("My sister's married to a Polynesian! I just love your culture!") So Sophie knows it's not paranoia, or post-divorce, living-alone-again jitters, when she becomes convinced that a crazed reader is sneaking into her apartment to reenact scenes from her books. The police, however, can't tell a good plot from an unmarked grave.

When a filmmaker friend is brutally murdered in the manner of a death scene in one of his movies, Sophie becomes convinced that a copycat killer is on the loose...and that she's the next target. If she doesn't solve the mystery, her own best seller will spell out her doom. Cursing her grisly ending (why, oh, why did she have to pick the axe?), Sophie engages in some real-life gumshoe tactics.

The man who swoops in to save her in dark alleys at night is mysterious new love interest Anatoly Darinsky. Of course, if this were fiction, Anatoly would be her prime suspect.

Solve another case with Sophie.

1st Kyra Davis book

This was my 1st time listening to Kyra Davis. Very Entertaining! I had 2 complaints: The narrator used quite a few low, growly voices. Sometimes, it was hard to tell it was a female speaking! I also didn't care for the "musical interlude" between the chapters. Annoying. Other than that, I loved the book!

Fun and light chic lit

Would you listen to Sex, Murder, and a Double Latte again? Why?

Actually, I have listened to it twice. I enjoyed the easy story line and fun characters! The second time I listened to it while I was it work b/c I could sort of fade in and out while listening and still know what was going on.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Sex, Murder, and a Double Latte?

That's easy. The chocolate espresso bean scene with Anatoly (however you spell it).

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator. Her voice was really deep and it was sort of distracting for me as I was trying to imagine cute, petite female characters and instead could only imagine Amazon women.

Any additional comments?

If you're looking for some fun chic lit that doesn't require a lot of focus... You are set!

An entertaining light read

I really enjoyed this book and got engaged in trying to figure out the mystery. I was surprised by who the villain ended up being.

The narration for some of the characters was a bit strange. Deena really sounds like a man, but I got used to it after a few chapters.

The only really negative thing is that I found the chapter transitions to be very disruptive. It would have been better to not have music at each new chapter.

I laughed out loud

This is a very funny story, and I love the sassy heroine. The supporting characters are fun, the ending surprised me, and I couldn't "put it down" as we say with a print book. This is my first Kyra Davis book (that I can recall) and it won't be my last!

Good read

Overall the book was really good. It had its moments where it was a little cliché but overall there were a lot of good plot twists and story development. I was held captivated throughout the whole book and the ending was fantastic, never expected it!

Not My TYPICAL PURCHASE.. But still.. Not Bad

I originally got this book because I adore Gabra Zackman. She is an amazing narrator. In this book she gives herself an east coast accent that I was not expecting since I got the book without listening to a sample. Plus I'm not normally into murder mysteries but Gabra made this book for me.

There are constantly characters in Kyra Davis' books that make you flinch, cringe, and make you want to say GO BACK, idiot DO NOT DO THAT!!! So, you could say I got engrossed despite not really liking these kinds of books. I would still say I don't like this genre, but I will probably still be buying this whole series. I'm not a fan of the unusual names in this series, and she seems to want to make certain scenes oddly sex oriented in places where it seems out of place, but I'd still recommend this series.

Side note: wish audible would better annotate book numbers for the mobile application.
