Thriller scribe Sophie Katz is as hard-boiled as a woman who drinks Grande Caramel Brownie Frappuccionos can be; maybe it's from a lifetime of fielding dumb comments about her half-black, half-Jewish ethnicity. ("My sister's married to a Polynesian! I just love your culture!") So Sophie knows it's not paranoia, or post-divorce, living-alone-again jitters, when she becomes convinced that a crazed reader is sneaking into her apartment to reenact scenes from her books. The police, however, can't tell a good plot from an unmarked grave.
When a filmmaker friend is brutally murdered in the manner of a death scene in one of his movies, Sophie becomes convinced that a copycat killer is on the loose...and that she's the next target. If she doesn't solve the mystery, her own best seller will spell out her doom. Cursing her grisly ending (why, oh, why did she have to pick the axe?), Sophie engages in some real-life gumshoe tactics.
The man who swoops in to save her in dark alleys at night is mysterious new love interest Anatoly Darinsky. Of course, if this were fiction, Anatoly would be her prime suspect.
Solve another case with Sophie.

I expected this novel to be a fun, humorous romance novel. But instead its about a bunch of catty women sitting around bagging on people. Disappointing. I deleted it from my ipod.
Sorry this one was not great- the story was good but it took many turns that destroyed the interest of what is going to happen next. I could not say read it.
I really liked this book! I have to confess, I wasn't expecting too much - a chick lit book at best. The story was good and there was quite a bit of humor, so all in all a good listen. My only (slight) complaint - the narrator. I think in better hands, the humorous parts could have been enhanced, and would have made a good book better.
This book is light, quick, fun, witty, and has tons of catty sarcasm. If that sounds like your cup of tea, then I highly recommend this book. I meant for it to be my commuter book, but I found myself listening when I prepared dinner, walked the dogs, and worked in the garden. It was such a fun and funny distraction!
Our heroine just wrapped up her latest mystery book and shipped it to the publisher, when she finds herself caught in a real-life murder mystery that echoes her plotlines, and her own life is in danger; well, maybe. This is a funny, well-paced story about an intrepid woman and her wacky yet believable friends that is perfect for kickin' back and enjoying the lazy days of summer. Grab a frappucino and hit the beach.
Listen, I am not a lover of "Chick Lit", but this book caught my eye one time and I thought I would give it a try. I was totally surprised at how good it was and how much I enjoyed this book. After reading I also got the other "Sophie Katz" mystery written by Kyra Davis and liked that one as well. These books have way more going for them than just "Chick Lit". Would recommend them to anyone who likes good writing.
Altho completely different in plot and characters, the light tone and the really gut laughs are wonderful. These are not deep characters, which is fine. It is a breezy, fun listen and I definitely recommend it.
Sophie is a wonderful character and her group of friends are just the most fun! I highly recommend it for a nice, casual listen. Couldn't wait to get in my car to go to work for a nice enjoyable drive.
This is a fun read. I'm not sure if this is a first time effort of the writer Krya Davis. This is the only novel by her on Audible. If it is, I think she will continue to grow. It was a great mix of humor and lite mystery. If your expecting Agatha Christie or such then this isn't for you. If your looking for fun and something to while away the afternoon, then this is for you. Brava to the narrator, hope to hear her in future audio books.
Sci-fi, detective, cozy. Only give 5s to those books I think stand above the rest. 4 is a good solid book. 3 is average, nothing special.
Well, you've got your air head, your sex maniac, your token gay, strong silent detective, and damsel in distress! The gang's all here.
