Publisher's summary

When a mystery writer cries bloody murder, everyone blames her overactive imagination.

Thriller scribe Sophie Katz is as hard-boiled as a woman who drinks Grande Caramel Brownie Frappuccionos can be; maybe it's from a lifetime of fielding dumb comments about her half-black, half-Jewish ethnicity. ("My sister's married to a Polynesian! I just love your culture!") So Sophie knows it's not paranoia, or post-divorce, living-alone-again jitters, when she becomes convinced that a crazed reader is sneaking into her apartment to reenact scenes from her books. The police, however, can't tell a good plot from an unmarked grave.

When a filmmaker friend is brutally murdered in the manner of a death scene in one of his movies, Sophie becomes convinced that a copycat killer is on the loose...and that she's the next target. If she doesn't solve the mystery, her own best seller will spell out her doom. Cursing her grisly ending (why, oh, why did she have to pick the axe?), Sophie engages in some real-life gumshoe tactics.

The man who swoops in to save her in dark alleys at night is mysterious new love interest Anatoly Darinsky. Of course, if this were fiction, Anatoly would be her prime suspect.

Solve another case with Sophie.

Kind of madcap, but enjoyable

I love the character of Sophie Katz, as well as her group of friends. It's a good light suspense with a little (though not enough, in my opinion) romantic tension thrown in. I truly did not know who did the deed until the end, but that was probably because the suspects weren't fully fleshed out. I will likely give it another listen when I'm in that kind of mood.

Good Story!

I accidentally came across this novel while searching for something else. I loved the storyline and there was good character development and very funny dialogue, especially during girlfriend movie night!

I'm not sure I like it enough pick up others in the series, though, especially if they have the same narrator.

Hard to finish

I was really disappointed by this book. The characters were just not likable people, it was hard to follow and while the plot seemed like it was going to be great, it fell flat.

Fantastic Series

I always look forward to the Sophie Katz series. These are such fun stories! Great characters, all with different personalities that make you love them, or want to strangle them. Hilarious situations when they come together, and often clash with each other. I love everything about these books. I can't wait til the next one comes out!

Somewhat funny

The characters seem too hip for their own good. Are there really people this superficial?

Sex, Murder and a Double Latte

I really love Sophie Katz, this is a great story I think this was my fifth listen and each time I hear something I missed before. This is a laugh out loud story, I listen while shopping. Don’t start this book in the evening or you will be up all night. Gabra Zackman does a fantastic job with all the different characters. I’ve recommended this book so many times and all my friends love it too. Restarting the second book again now.

Fun!!!!!!

It’s a wildly ridiculous enjoyable book. Kyra Davis has a wonderful sense of the absurd.

Kick ass and Fun

I listened to the audio book for this and it was so fun! The cover even screams fun but I honestly picked it up because I needed to read a book with a gun on the cover for a reading challenge I was participating in. (blush) But hey it doesn't matter what brought me to read it just that I did and I adored it!

It has loads of action and a great cast of fun characters especially Sophie and her out of this world friends, Marcus and Dena. They kept me laughing. Don't let that pink cover fool you though...this isn't a "fluffy" story but one of a kick-ass lady who goes in search of a killer she thinks is acting out parts from her stories. It's funny and dangerous the predicaments she finds herself in along with her "helpful" friends.

I felt the narrator did a great job differentiating among the different characters which made the story even more enjoyable.
