Publisher's summary

When a mystery writer cries bloody murder, everyone blames her overactive imagination.

Thriller scribe Sophie Katz is as hard-boiled as a woman who drinks Grande Caramel Brownie Frappuccionos can be; maybe it's from a lifetime of fielding dumb comments about her half-black, half-Jewish ethnicity. ("My sister's married to a Polynesian! I just love your culture!") So Sophie knows it's not paranoia, or post-divorce, living-alone-again jitters, when she becomes convinced that a crazed reader is sneaking into her apartment to reenact scenes from her books. The police, however, can't tell a good plot from an unmarked grave.

When a filmmaker friend is brutally murdered in the manner of a death scene in one of his movies, Sophie becomes convinced that a copycat killer is on the loose...and that she's the next target. If she doesn't solve the mystery, her own best seller will spell out her doom. Cursing her grisly ending (why, oh, why did she have to pick the axe?), Sophie engages in some real-life gumshoe tactics.

The man who swoops in to save her in dark alleys at night is mysterious new love interest Anatoly Darinsky. Of course, if this were fiction, Anatoly would be her prime suspect.

Solve another case with Sophie.

Liked it; a great murder mystery

4/5 rating. Liked it. A murder mystery. Not really a romance. No sex/erotica. Narration was okay/tolerable. Good characters.

Great Story

The story started off a little slow but it is a really good mystery. After the first couple of chapters you do get into the book. There is no detail sex but you will like the story.

No sex or double lattes

There was murder and Frappuccinos though. It’s not exactly a harlequin novel but the characters are interesting and the mystery and twists are well plotted.

I really liked this book, but...

This book is funny, well written and a good, challenging, mystery. I have two bones to pick however.

First, the male voices are terrible. Just marbles in your mouth fake awful. But you could look past that because the story is so good.

Second... the heroine is foolish. There is no other word for it. Crazy leaps of logic are disastrous. Was I the only one who kept wondering, “how did she get there?!”. It made me want to scream.

That said, the book is actually so good you just want to keep reading regardless. It’s an odd way to feel about a book but I will likely read another!

Loved the story, narrators accent was interesting.

The book itself was great, for a mystery the author did a great job with keeping me guessing and set a good pace. The plot was creative and the storyline was funny and well written. For the book, I'd give 5 stars all day.
The narrator was decent, she displayed good inflections and set a great pace. However, her 'Russian' accent was horrible. Maybe if she practiced a little more it would have been better? It was consistent - but consistently awful doesn't count for much.
