Publisher's summary

When a mystery writer cries bloody murder, everyone blames her overactive imagination.

Thriller scribe Sophie Katz is as hard-boiled as a woman who drinks Grande Caramel Brownie Frappuccionos can be; maybe it's from a lifetime of fielding dumb comments about her half-black, half-Jewish ethnicity. ("My sister's married to a Polynesian! I just love your culture!") So Sophie knows it's not paranoia, or post-divorce, living-alone-again jitters, when she becomes convinced that a crazed reader is sneaking into her apartment to reenact scenes from her books. The police, however, can't tell a good plot from an unmarked grave.

When a filmmaker friend is brutally murdered in the manner of a death scene in one of his movies, Sophie becomes convinced that a copycat killer is on the loose...and that she's the next target. If she doesn't solve the mystery, her own best seller will spell out her doom. Cursing her grisly ending (why, oh, why did she have to pick the axe?), Sophie engages in some real-life gumshoe tactics.

The man who swoops in to save her in dark alleys at night is mysterious new love interest Anatoly Darinsky. Of course, if this were fiction, Anatoly would be her prime suspect.

Solve another case with Sophie.

Disappointing

I expected this novel to be a fun, humorous romance novel. But instead its about a bunch of catty women sitting around bagging on people. Disappointing. I deleted it from my ipod.

FABULOUS FIND

I'm not sure what I was looking at on Audible to find this book & author, but was it ever my lucky day!! This book is so fun and the narrator is terrific, too. I download my books on CDs and listen to them in the car. I sat in the car in my garage (not running of course, did not want to become one of Kyra's next characters) listening to the final disc and couldn't wait to rush up here and write a review.

Rest assured, I will put all of her books in my wish list.

I truly think her books are right up there with the Women's Murder Club novels by James Patterson and I adore him.

Thanks, Audible, for another great female author who writes exceptionally fun and entertaining books.

Great for Weekend Chores

This is definitely a light read...enjoyable to listen to while doing something else. The narrator can be a little annoying with the accents, but the story kept me listening. I've already downloaded the next story in the series.

A Lot of Fun

I like to listen to mystery and suspense and I chose this book because of the promise of humor. This one turned out to be a lot of fun, with laugh out loud humor. The hip characters, the budding romance, and the topical humor overshadows the mystery itself, which was fine by me.

What a Hoot!

I had fun with this book. The dry humour and craziness going on kept me on my toes. I will defiently get the rest of the series. This series reminds me of Stephanie Plum but a little more crase. Does have quite a but of foul language in it, but it didn't bother me.

Enjoy!

This audio book was a good listen; fun and light-hearted. The characters are entertaining and the story is overall witty. I especially liked the narrator, Gabra Zackman; she has a great range of voices, giving the characters more energy.

I listen to my fair share of audio books and I find that a poor narrator can ruin a good book. If you're looking for a light listen, that's entertaining, this is a good one.

Entertaining and fun

This is a book for entertainment purposes- the characters were a bit over the top, but in a fun way. The plot of the story is something that would only happen in a book, but hey, it is a book! It doesn't take itself too seriously, and the reader shouldn't either. The mystery unfolds at a good pace and keeps you guessing until the end. I liked the cliff hanger and I'm glad I got the second book at the same time as the first, so I could go right from one to the other. Great for listening to in the car or on the train. If you like mysteries with strong female characters, you will enjoy this.

Fun - not serious

A light & funny mystery that kept me on the treadmill much longer than my usual time - that's a good thing. I enjoyed the writing as well as the narration. The characters are sarcastic, sassy and likeable- I am looking forward to a 2nd book by the author.

Fun for the summer

Our heroine just wrapped up her latest mystery book and shipped it to the publisher, when she finds herself caught in a real-life murder mystery that echoes her plotlines, and her own life is in danger; well, maybe. This is a funny, well-paced story about an intrepid woman and her wacky yet believable friends that is perfect for kickin' back and enjoying the lazy days of summer. Grab a frappucino and hit the beach.

Light & Delightful

I enjoyed this mystery, it took me quite awhile to figure out the murderer, which I always consider a good sign. The writing was descriptive and amusing. I thoroughly enjoyed this and would read another book by the same author.
