Townsfolk called him the devil. For dark and enigmatic Julian, Earl of Ravenwood, was a man with a legendary temper and a first wife whose mysterious death would not be forgotten. Now country-bred Sophy Dorring was about to become Ravenwood's new bride. Drawn to the glitters of desire that burned in his emerald eyes, Sophy had her own reasons for agreeing to a marriage of convenience.

One was vengeance, and in it's pursuit she would entangle Julian in a dangerous masquerade. The other reason was dearer to her heart but just as wild a quest: Sophy Dorring intended to teach the devil to love again.

"why do I like this book?"

    Let me count the ways:
I liked the characters (they are fun, funny, and overall likeable. Wish we could have known the bad guy a little more).
I liked the setting (awww, who doesn't like a little historical romance?)
I liked the narrator (Great voices, pretty consistant).
I like the voice (easy to understand, not passive or irritating)
I like the pacing (moves along with fun detail)
I like the story ("and they lived . . ." well, you'll have to read the book to find out).

All in all, it was a fun read.
    Enjoy.

"Reasons why I liked this story"

It started with the usual formula of the nobleman marrying ,for whatever reason. He wanted the heir and no trouble and she wanted love and equality. Underlying, the trappings of the story was an honest discussion of a women's status in these type of marriages. Each character debated (or though very heated arguments)
the male and female perspective. Julian had the preceived notions on marriage
for the times. Sophy was more progressive. The only difference between a
mistress and a wife, was the later had a retirement plan. Julian's aunt and her female companion had a deep, loving and understanding friendship. The author
questioned the ability of a married man and woman capable of achieving the same . Julian character did develope into a loving and understanding husband, due to Sophy's sheer will. I appreciated the authors attempt to discuss marriage and the role of woman during that time but, being very entertaining in the process.

    Story
    "Great Entertainment!"

"Seduction" is one of Quick's earlier books, a straight forward regency (before the PNR elements entered into so much of her work) and one of her first historicals.

The story begins with the cynical widower Julian, the Earl of Ravenwood, proposing marriage to country-bred Sophy Dorring in the hopes that she will prove easy to manage while providing him with heirs. Julian, believing Sophy to be firmly on the shelf, having failed during her one and only season, should be grateful for his offer, but she turned him down. Although Sophy has loved Julian for years, she will not agree to marry him unless he agrees to specific conditions. Not to be one who takes "no" for an answer, he finally agrees, and they marry immediately. Julian thought that because of her age and having resided in the country he was getting someone who would provide him an heir and be no trouble. Little did he know! Sophy has a hidden agenda for wanting to marry Julian.

The story-line may not sound very different than a hundred other historical romances, but this is not your typical, run-of-the-mill historical romance, it is quite UNIQUE. There are aspects of the story that I don't remember encountering in other books, and I have read and heard hundreds of historical romances.

You'll find scandal, humor, intrigue, revenge, unusual duels, romance -- with strong secondary characters.

As great as Anne Flosnik is, I think she has out-done herself in "Seduction", she was flawless! ....Well worth a credit, but I was happy to get it on sale--3 books for 2 credits!

"THE BEST older Quicks are becoming available!!"

This particular period of Amanda Quick's books have long been my favorite, especially Scandal, Ravished, Dangerous and Deception. I have read them all countless times, and they never get old. How wonderful that they are now going to be in UNABRIDGED audio!! Abridged is just a travesty. I always buy Amanda Quick, but her new books can't compare to these older ones. THANK YOU AUDIOBOOKS!!!!!

"Awesome historical romance with some Intrigue."

This story was very good. I love Amanda Quick's books, I have yet to be disappointed by her writing. I really enjoy Anne Flosnik's narration. Very satisfied.

    "Very Entertaining"

One of the better Amanda Quick romances. Both our heroine and hero were very believable characters. I especially appreciated that there were times I sided with her and times I sided with him as their relationship grew. The way Ms. Quick-Krentz is able to weave modern social insight into her historical novel is remarkable.
