A Civil War romance. Charlie is a crack sharpshooter for the Twenty-Fifth Virginia infantry. But Charlie has secrets.big secrets that could lead to heartbreak or even death. The slowly starving South, lack of medical supplies, and desperate runaway slaves motivate her and surgeon, Captain Daniel Reid, to take risks beyond their wildest imaginations. How could they possibly know that their paths would cross during the worst time in their lives and where that path would lead?

No - not because it wasn't a well written story but it was rather depressing. So much bloodshed - so much detail on all the surgeries Daniel was performing to save the soldiers. The love story was a minor part of the story, but at least it does end happily.
Charlie helping to free a family of slaves, hiding them in her family's wagon's boxes. Another is Charlie sneaking into the prison camp Daniel is being held in, and helping him break out of there. Definitely, a lot of great detail and the story follows the history of the different battles very well.
Her quiet narrating style for this particular story - it fit the mood of the story. Accents were O.K. Her voice made it enjoyable to listen to the story; it had so much heartache and sadness most of the time, that it was good that she kept her voice soothing.
No, it was actually nice to take a break from listening and just listen to it in bits and pieces.
The narrator is the worst I have ever heard and I
listen to many books!
I like historical romance and think the love story is very good.
She didn't change expressions! Did she even read the book before she recorded it? She did not have inflection at the right times in the right places. If the section was happy or sad it didn't matter. She sounded like a robot. Do the authors even listen to their books before they are released? It is a shame that a good story has been ruined.
just the narration
