Can a pirate learn that the only true treasure lies in a woman's heart?
Widowed Silence Hollingbrook is impoverished, lovely, and kind - and nine months ago she made a horrible mistake. She went to a river pirate for help in saving her husband, and in the process, made a bargain that cost her her marriage. That night wounded her so terribly that she hides in the foundling home she helps run with her brother. Except now that same river pirate is back... and he's asking for her help.
"Charming" Mickey O'Connor is the most ruthless river pirate in London. Devastatingly handsome and fearsomely intelligent, he clawed his way up through London's criminal underworld. Mickey has no use for tender emotions like compassion and love, and he sees people as pawns to be manipulated. And yet he's never been able to forget the naive captain's wife who came to him for help and spent one memorable night in his bed...talking.
When his bastard baby girl was dumped in his lap - her mother having died - Mickey couldn't resist the Machiavellian urge to leave the baby on Silence's doorstep. The baby would be hidden from his enemies, and he'd also bind Silence to him by her love for his daughter.

This audiobook is absolutely wonderful! If you have followed Elizabeth Hoyt's Maiden Lane series and daydreamed about what would happen when Charming Mickey and Silence Hollingbook finally got together, your daydreams could not compare to their actual story. The storyline will keep you riveted to whatever device you have selected to hear your audiobooks, and the realness that both author and narrator create in Charming Mickey's dialogue makes him more endearing. Other characters from previous books are mentioned, but Silence and Charming Mickey are definitely the focus. Hoyt also does a wonderful job in enticing the listener to want to hear more of Winter’s story in her next installment. The twists and turns and cliffhanger moments will take you on an emotional journey that will leave your mouth hanging open in surprise, and tears threating to fall as you begin to wonder if you will get the happy ending you want for Silence and her Charming Mickey. Oh yeah, and of course, the “Ghosts of St. Giles is revealed. Listen to find out if your suspicions as to his identify are correct.
Say something about yourself!
I have listened to this twice and just loved this one. The gorgeous, damaged man; the innocent, sweet, and beautiful woman; a villain of demonic proportions; the corrupt officials, and the mysterious Ghost of St. Giles! Oh my.
This story is very exciting. Not a mystery but a love story with tension and action that – no matter how many times I listen to it – is very exciting.
Well worth a credit and at least a second listen.
I have already recommended this book to a friend. It was a great read, and couldn't put it down.
Pirate Mickey, His character, and voice draw you in. He is someone you fall in love with
with a deep interest and quirky personality
Pirate Mickey - loved his accent'
In part two towards the end you don't see the twist coming in the book until you hear it. I was driving to work, and was brought to tears.
I have been reading all Elizabeth Hoyt books, and this was her best book by far.
This series is amazing but number 3 was the best of the lot (so far). I listened to this book non stop, just could not tear myself away. I laughed, I cried and I fell in love.
Yes, but only a VERY CLOSE friend! The sex is so graphic, I'd want to be sure the friend wouldn't be offended.
When they are all in the kitchen giving the dog a bath in his tub, then Micky walks in.
Too many to choose from.
I know not everyone likes the narrator, but to me she is the PERFECT narrator for this series. Her narration is quiet, deliberate, and somber, which reflects the seriousness of the character (and her entire family) as well as the atmosphere of the whole book. She complements the atmosphere created by the author. Her Irish accent is fantastic.
Never judge a book by its movie
I really liked this series, but this was clearly the best (so far)
The Narrator was amazing, she has an amazing voice. I loved her voice of baby Mary.
Silence & Mickey were both characters that you could not help but love.
The mystery of the "Ghost of St. Giles becomes clearer, introducing Book 4 of this series.
This book is not to be missed.
I love to read romance books.
Scandalous Desires by Elizabeth Hoyt (Audio Edition)
Narrated by Ashford McNab
Maiden Lane Series #3
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ I Loved the Mickey O’Connor! He was the perfect bad boy who falls in love with a good girl and everything changes. He and Silence made a wonderful pair. Perfect opposites. I also loved that you could see O’Connor’s men start to care for Silence as well and we get watch Mickey start to love his daughter.
I do have to comment though: “The home for unfortunate infants and foundling children.” The amount of times this was said in the book.. well, you could almost do a shot game for this! Then they added “The ladies syndicate for the benefit of...” to the beginning of it, and wowsa… a wee bit much I’m thinking… I did have to laugh when a character in one of the books actually commented about how the name itself is crazy.
Ashford McNab really made this story come alive for me. She did a lovely Irish lilt for Mickey’s voice and it was great to listen to. This book, I think may be my favourite of the series so far. Can’t wait to start the next one!
I've just discovered the Maiden Lane series and have greatly enjoyed each one. I've listened to them out of order, but I enjoyed listening to them again in order. The book descriptions do not always have the book series number, that has been very frustrating to a new listener.
The narrative is mostly true to characters, BUT the lisp in Phone's voice, the dreadful deep voice of Artemis were awful. Not at all in the voice of the characters in the other books. She was very diverse with the multiple other characters, much enjoyed.
