Can a pirate learn that the only true treasure lies in a woman's heart?

Widowed Silence Hollingbrook is impoverished, lovely, and kind - and nine months ago she made a horrible mistake. She went to a river pirate for help in saving her husband, and in the process, made a bargain that cost her her marriage. That night wounded her so terribly that she hides in the foundling home she helps run with her brother. Except now that same river pirate is back... and he's asking for her help.

"Charming" Mickey O'Connor is the most ruthless river pirate in London. Devastatingly handsome and fearsomely intelligent, he clawed his way up through London's criminal underworld. Mickey has no use for tender emotions like compassion and love, and he sees people as pawns to be manipulated. And yet he's never been able to forget the naive captain's wife who came to him for help and spent one memorable night in his bed...talking.

When his bastard baby girl was dumped in his lap - her mother having died - Mickey couldn't resist the Machiavellian urge to leave the baby on Silence's doorstep. The baby would be hidden from his enemies, and he'd also bind Silence to him by her love for his daughter.

This book is AMAZING !

Would you consider the audio edition of Scandalous Desires to be better than the print version?

No matter the edition. I think this book is amazing eitherway with its excellent storyline and interaction of all the characters
I started with the first book where the hero and heroine's characters first introduced. I was captivated by them and jumped ahead to listen to the third book in the series instead of the second book! I love love love the book

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mikky ofcourse !!!!!!! Such contradicting yet captivating character !

Which scene was your favorite?

What is not my favorite scene !!!!! I loved the whole thing ! I don't want to spoil the book :)

Any additional comments?

The narration was improved from the first book of the series. But still Ashford made Mikky's voice as if a teenager not fitting his charismatic character !

Lovvve

This is 2nd book in the maiden lane series I've listened to and I'm hooked. I listened to the the story about Temperance and when I saw there was one about Silence and Mickey I was like stop it! Finished the book in 2 days ❤ I love the narrator's accents and representation of the Pirate. I can't wait to listen to the book about Winter next 😁

Wow! Hot! Thrilling! YUMMY!!!

Where does Scandalous Desires rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

So far at the top!!! All of Elizabeth Hoyt's books are very high on my best books of all time and this one is super high on that list!

Have you listened to any of Ashford McNab’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Great! Ashford does a wonderful job. If I had one complaint it is that she basically switched Silence's and Temperance's voices in this book, but that isn['t a very large part of the book and I am just being nit-pickey!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The whole thing, BUT when Mary was under the bed with Lad...I burst into tears!!! (but can't give anything away here!) But so many moments moved me!

Any additional comments?

This is so much more than a romance novel! This is a real dramatic story with romance at the center. Twists and turns .... never wanting to hit pause...I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!

Scandalous desires

I love this book, and all the Maidian Lane series. This is possibly the 4th time I've listen to the entire series. Elizabeth Hoyt - I love your books - I wish the next book in series was coming out sooner. Thanks for sharing your talent with us - your readers.

Charming Mickey, indeed

I love the Maiden Lane series! It encompasses everything I enjoy in a historical romance: passion, complex and lovable characters, and a great story.

This installment is one of my favorites. We are first introduced to the relationship of Charming Mickey and Silence during the first book and since then, I was hoping these two would end up together.

He is a river pirate and she is an innocent widow who lost the love of her dear husband even before he lost his life at sea. Without giving too much away, Silence has been forced to live with Charming Mickey. He is a ruthless man bent on obtaining as much material possessions as he can. Silence holds Mickey in contempt with the way he fashions his life and of what he did to her.

As the story progresses, we become more and more acquainted with the real Charming Mickey and the true nature of Silence's relationship with her late husband. The story is brilliantly crafted and at the end of this book, I was grasping for more in the Maiden Lane series.

Narrator:
Ashford MacNab
Performance: 6 out of 5 (can I even do that?)
MacNab is an amazing narrator. In fact, the whole reason I found the Maiden Lane series was because I wanted to listen to more books read by MacNab. She does the voices beautifully. The accents are wonderfully done and really distinguishes the characters as you listen to the performance. The was she portrays Charming Mickey is fantastic and her female characters sound exactly how I imagine them in my mind.

Good series

I enjoyed this whole series, which surprised me for I am not a fan of historical romance novels. This had more meat and I really liked the era this was set in. The narrator was good for this type of story. Over all I am not sorry I got this series.

Thoroughly enjoyed

I've just discovered the Maiden Lane series and have greatly enjoyed each one. I've listened to them out of order, but I enjoyed listening to them again in order. The book descriptions do not always have the book series number, that has been very frustrating to a new listener.
The narrative is mostly true to characters, BUT the lisp in Phone's voice, the dreadful deep voice of Artemis were awful. Not at all in the voice of the characters in the other books. She was very diverse with the multiple other characters, much enjoyed.

Everything I’ve ever wanted out of a HR novel!

This book is EVERYTHING! After hitting a slow patch in terms of finding a novel I really clicked with, I stumbled upon the Maiden Lane series. The first one took me by surprise and then I’ve been steadily impressed with each and every one. So often, I find myself wishing the authors went down a different path…even for those novels I love. Not for this one! I was SO HAPPY with every decision the author took. Each event was so purposeful in intentionally moving the characters further along their arc. And her writing!! I’m not one to get chills, but…my goodness….can Elizabeth Hoyt’s words raise the goose flesh. I am so grateful for this series. My only disappointment is that it will one day end and I won’t have anymore to read.

Also, I used to have trouble with this narrator. Her hero’s always sounded monotone and angry. I must have just needed to get used to her because I had no qualms with this performance.
