Publisher's summary

In a world so dark and seductive, expect nothing less than a triple-cross in the explosive all-new Ghostwalker novel by number one New York Times best-selling author Christine Feehan....

In an underground club, a high-ranking public official spends his secret nights indulging in fantasies as exciting as they are depraved. For a seductive employee of the Dungeon, it's her job to fulfill them. But she's playing a far more dangerous game - one of blackmail, politics, and murder that reaches into the shadow world of the Ghostwalkers, and the creation of a spectacular, one-of-a-kind new weapon of defense.

But when a dictator makes his own catastrophic moves, the Ghostwalkers have no choice but to bring in two major players - a man and woman both driven by passion and revenge. Both expendable. Both with nothing left to lose.

Read the Ghostwalker Series. It Rocks!

This is the latest instalment in the Ghostwalker series. I waited a long time for it, and I wasn't disappointed. The entire series is loaded with action, military precision, futuristic science, culturally and racially diverse characters and passionate love scenes. The sex and violence is very explicit, so if that's not your thing, this isn't the book for you.

I wouldn't call this series paranormal, although I believe it is billed as such. Rather than ghosts and vampires, this series is about genetically enhanced male soldiers, and their female counterparts who were similarly enhanced as children. Their enhancements give them certain powers that are well above and beyond what is common to most humans. A scientific genius created them to be military super weapons, and also breeding pairs for (hopefully) genetically gifted children.

Each book focuses on a couple who meet and fall in love. I suppose each book "could" stand alone, but not comfortably. There is an ongoing background story that is as compelling as the main story of each book, and for that reason I would suggest reading the series from the beginning to get the full effect.

Samurai Game itself was a wonderful addition. Thorn is a strong, smart heroine who doesn't sit around waiting for the hero to rescue her. Nor does she rush headlong into danger without the resources to get herself out. She is in parts strong and ruthless, caring and serene. Sam is a soldier through and through, with a man's need to protect his woman, but with enough respect for her capabilities to let her handle situations on her own.

If you like your romances with a healthy dose of action and intrigue, and if you like strong, smart, capable heroines to go along with your sexy macho heroes, you will love this series, and this book.

Tom Stechschulte is the best narrator!

If you could sum up Samurai Game in three words, what would they be?

Perfectly read, sexy, exciting

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sam... and this is completely because of the narrator Tom Stechulte.

Have you listened to any of Tom Stechschulte’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Oh yes.... I get books just because of him reading..... and the people who think he is not great at the women, are just wrong. Most books read by women make the women sound arragant and shallow. Tom gives the women such depth and character. I neve question why the men fall in love with them.

What a great find to have Tom Stechschulte!

More of the Same

Early in the series these books were quite a surprise and delight. After several, however, one gets more steamy sex than story and this can turn out to be a yawner.

Someone should smack the publisher's staff ....

...probably one of the worst lead-ins for a book I've read. The main character, Thorn, spends ~15 minutes in the mentioned club.)

What she does do in this book is go from a vengence-driven woman w/a poor self image to a woman who's no longer letting others define her role. Yes, she's still after the senior Whitney and there's certainly a lot of fairly explicit sex -- but it's good to have consistency in your life.

Some of the reviewers have dismissively commented on Thorn's submissive behavior. Would that be her submissive behavior as she kills various bad people and/or helps defend the other women & children while the men are off on a mission? Tradiitonal Japanese culture has a demonstrated history of the women acting submissive. The reality is that those same women controlled the purse strings, took major roles in politics, and yes, were recognized samurai warriors. While she often portrays herself as a bodyguard to one of her brothers, she's actually the senior person running a major corporation.

The book does not settle a few pesky issues like how she's going to handle a partner who's on active duty with the US government while her corporation is based in Japan. Or how she's going to juggle work and the possiblity of children. Having her partner wave his hands and say it can all be worked out sounds like a guy.

I thought it was interesting to have the Thorn character survive her abuse by the senior Whitney due to the assimilation into the samurai culture; the structure and training gave her the skills she needed to survive a horrific childhood. I also thought it was interesting for her to finally understand that she didn't have to accept her beloved adopted father's image of her life but accept that she could have a loving relationship with a physical side. And even lots of a physical side.

Actually, there were several areas in the book that were either badly written or edited. I would have thought the part where Thorn and Flame save the women & children while the men are offsite should have been greatly expanded. Thorn was pleased to reconnect with other girls from her childhood; that could have been covered more. I also would have liked to had an inkling of what the senior Whitney's reaction was to finding out that so many of his current efforts towards world domination were thwarted by a young girl he had literally thrown away. So we come back to my complaint about whomever wrote the blurb that Audible's listing with the book.

Feehan's books are a bit formularic -- but they still work. This was not the best of her books -- but it certainly wasn't the worst. I'd recommend going back and listening to the whole series again for those of you who've been away from it for awhile.

Catching up on all the original characters, Ry, Sam, Kadan, Gator, etc. Also, like always, Tom Stechschulte is a GREAT narrator!

I love all the characters. This is a great series filled with believable characters that you feel like you know.

What about Tom Stechschulte’s performance did you like?

EVERYTHING! He is the best narrator out there. I have purchased audio books just because he is the narrator.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Daniel going to Azami and several of the Azami and Sam moments were very well written.

Any additional comments?

This is a great addition to the Ghostwalker series.

Love the Ghostwalker series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this book as I did so enjoy it. I do however recommend that you read the Ghostwalker series books in order or listen to them in order as this is book 10. I loved this story of Thorn and Sam. Thorn's childhood with Dr. Whitney was so horrendous that it was so nice to know there was someone for her who would totally love and appreciate her. I also enjoyed how she came together with some of the other women like Saber, Lily and Flame that helped her to "fit in".

What was one of the most memorable moments of Samurai Game?

I really liked how protective Thorn "Asami" was of Sam when he was wounded. How she felt such a connection to him. No matter the possible threat to herself she would have killed the other Ghostwalkers had she thought for one minute that they would not do all they could to save him. I liked how she realized that they were the "good guys" and were in the same boat she was in regards to Dr. Whitney.

Have you listened to any of Tom Stechschulte’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I enjoy Tom Stechschulte and his performances, even though his female voices are not that great I love how he does the male voices especially Gator's. I personally think he is a very good narrator.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book makes you feel sad for Thorn and her life as a child under Dr. Whitney's possession and then it also makes you laugh with her and Sam and how they are together.

Any additional comments?

Recommend you listen to the books in the series in order

I've liked the series, just not this book

I tried to get into this story, but the middle just didn't work for me, especially when she started calling him Sammy. I like most of the other books in this series, but I just couldn't get through this one - not even with one of my favourite narrators, Tom Stechschulte, reading.

Wonderful Story

If you could sum up Samurai Game in three words, what would they be?

I waited a long time to find out about Thorn. If I could sum up this story in three words it would be INTERESTING, EXCITING, AND BEAUTIFUL.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Samurai Game?

One of the most memorable moments for me was when Sam and Thorn teamed up and fought together at the beginning of the story. I knew that the entire story would be good.

What about Tom Stechschulte’s performance did you like?

I really love listening to Tom. He is one of my favorite story teller.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes I had an extreme reaction to the chapter where you learn how Thorn was used for experiments and for the other children to practice there skills. I experience a lot of difference emotions listening to this story.

Any additional comments?

I loved everything about this book. It was a beautiful tribute to Sam and Thorn.

a pleasant change of pace

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you like your romance with a little mayhem or mayhem with a little romance, this would be a good book for you. The plot had a new twist which I found refreshing; it does no damage to the story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Our hero and heroine are my favorites. She insists she can take care of herself - and she can! I think they have makings of a good team once they learn to trust each to take care of him/herself.

Have you listened to any of Tom Stechschulte’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Tom Stechshulte has done most of the Ghostwalker series and continues to remain a definite plus. His name is enough to push me into trying a book that I'm otherwise on the fence about.
