Publisher's summary

Sometimes the wrong choice can be just right...

Fun and fearless, Cora Lewis knows how to keep her tattooed "bad boy" friends at the Marked in line. But beneath all that flash and sass is a broken heart. Cora won't let herself get burned again. She's waiting to fall in love with the perfect man - a baggage-free, drama-free guy ready for commitment. Then she meets Rome Archer.

Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He's stubborn, rigid, and bossy. And he's returned from his final tour of duty more than a little broken. Rome's used to filling many roles: big brother, doting son, supersoldier - but none of those fit anymore. Now he's just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the dark demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer through it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes a blinding flash of color in a sea of gray. Perfect may not be in the cards, but perfectly imperfect could just last forever...

If you liked Jay's other books then you must read this one too.
The readers are pretty bad but the story is good.

Could have been better

I am a huge Jay Crownover fan, I think I have listened to all or at least most of her books. I loved the Marked Men series but I skipped Rome. That is the good thing about her books, while you would enjoy the story in order you will not miss much if you rearranged the books. I will say Jay lost me halfway through with this one. I felt there was room to build on Rome and Cora’s story. In all of her other books, she built a growing relationship between the characters; however, in Rome I felt like I got shoved into a love match that was doomed form the start! There was more to Rome as a character but that side of him that could make every girl light headed was only briefly touched on. With Cora, many of us have had bad relationship but maybe it’s me but I felt that the issue of her ex was just a weak attempt at explaining Cora considering how much of a fighter Cora is!

I didn’t particularly like the narrators. I am not sure how audible picks them but I would hope they would try to match similar styles to make the story flow smoothly. I don’t think either was well matched to narrate romance books.

I am a fan so I never hesitate to use my credit but if there is a book to save that credit and buy on sale, then this is it.

Loving This Series

I am loving this Marked Men series. I love her writing style and her characters. I feel like I am friends with all of them. This is Rome and Cora's story. I loved Cora in Rule and Jet's books so I am glad she gets to find her happily ever after. I liked how Rome wasn't what she was picturing as her forever guy, but she knew herself well enough to let the cards fall where they may. Rome is going through PTSD from the war, and she is his reason to get better. It's just a great story! I can't wait until the next book comes out.

I love those wounded characters!

I love the flow of this storyline. I have a weakness for this lost and wounded souls. I guess that's the healer in me. I like the sound of the voices of the two narrators.

My favorite of the Marked Men novels

What made the experience of listening to Rome the most enjoyable?

I actually enjoyed this book the most out of all the Marked Men novels. The story was really dynamic and powerful. I liked Cora and Rome more than I thought I would. I loved reading about their journey and I felt tangled up in it every step of the way.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Rome?

The story about Rome recovering from the loss of his brother broke my heart.

How did Jay do it again?

I keep listening to the Marked Men series thinking that one of them will lose the same awesomeness that Rule had and it just isn't the case. Rome was just as amazing. Jay has a way with words that sucks you in and makes you feel. There is just the perfect balance of emotion, action, sexy, romantic... Everything.

Worth the credit, no doubt.

Loved it!!!

I loved the story but, I wish the reads would learn how to pronounce the names of the characters. Namely Asa which is a long a.
