Simon Hunt is a masterful Mage when it comes to knives, solving puzzles, and women. But when a Mageri councilman asks for a personal favor, his skills are put to the test. He reluctantly accepts the impossible job of training a young Learner who is beyond anyone's help. She's beautiful, cunning, and disabled. If he succeeds he'll receive a hefty paycheck. But if he fails, more is at stake than merely his reputation.

Risk is a compelling tale about two lost souls and the unique connection they share. Simon is her last hope...and perhaps she is his.

What happens when a game of chance becomes a fight for survival?

Right off the bat, Novel; 5.5 happens after Risk, the sixth in the series. I don't know if Audible got it wrong or what, but 5.5 is a spoiler for book 6 so be aware. In this sixth book, the focus changes away from Silver (in this book she is minor) and Simon takes the lead with another character introduced -- Ella. This is curious, I'm not sure how I fell about the literary bait-an-switch. Perhaps she thought Simon is more interesting, but no so much as to build a series around him -- IDK.

The story revolves around Simon teaching one of Hannna's learning who was hurt in an attack by Nero way back in Novel three. There is drama and interesting things that comer out that offer a great deal of series answers that needed to be addressed. They way this series is written is odd, in reflection. Like she did book 5 wrapping everything, then she said 'oh wait' and added book six to wind things up again, then oh crap, I forgot more stuff let me add 5.5 that could be one answer.

Anyway, the series is enjoyable. Just get the order right. I give it a big thumbs up.

Very enjoyable.! Simon is a very interesting character. There were some secrets in his past that was revealed which explained his behaviour. I think a future book on more of Simon and Ella would be welcomed. Also his future career? Very good addition to the series. I hope there will books on the Mageri series!

A GOOD CONTINUATION OF THE SERIES

As always the narrator drives me crazy. I believe in short and to the point.

Excellent - No Nonsense - Not full of Drama and BS

The overall writing of the stories in the series pleasantly suspenseful in its build up and outcome. I was hoping for a happy ending but there was also crafty plot twist. I love the diversity in characters demonstrated in different types of breed. Although the men were strong type, the women were often the hero. And even if you don’t read the books in order each book gave enough context to help me understand what was happening. One day I am actually going listen to various books in the order. But they are structured so well they would make a great tv series. The Reader did an excellent job bringing the story to life. I could distinguish between the characters.

Worthwhile
