Publisher's summary

Gideon Cross: As beautiful and flawless on the outside as he was damaged and tormented on the inside. He was a bright, scorching flame that singed me with the darkest of pleasures. I couldn’t stay away. I didn’t want to. He was my addiction…my every desire…mine.

My past was as violent as his, and I was just as broken. We’d never work. It was too hard, too painful…except when it was perfect. Those moments when the driving hunger and desperate love were the most exquisite insanity.

We were bound by our need. And our passion would take us beyond our limits to the sweetest, sharpest edge of obsession.…

All I've Ever Wanted

What a remarkable journey into the lives of Gideon and Eva. The narration was a delight. The book was perfect. Oh how I love thee, let me count the ways:
The Narrator was fabulous, (after listening to this book, now one of my top 3 all time favorites)
The Plot was simply the best, the sexual tension/scenes, the pleasure, the eagerness, the characters, the anxiety, the love, the fulfillment, the laughs, the tears, the longing for the next book. I am now officially obsessed with the Crossfire series.

This book has little (very little) likeness to Fifty Shades of Gray.

My note to publisher and Author:
I hate you for making me wait until June for the next book.

I want to like Eva ....

But it's hard to. After book one, I had to get book two thinking if I read the second book, I'll have a better understanding of what was wrong with her (I know the basics, but my God, her character, to me, just didn't develop into a mature woman). Her attitude came off as indecisive, love/hate, whinny and childish.

I love Gideon, not because of everything he is, but because he's a bit more of an adult in the relationship than Eva, like the whole trust bit. If you love someone so much, trust the damn guy! He hasn't given you a solid reason not to for Christ sakes! Of course he doesn't want to tell you his past, some people don't just open up so fast and tell you everything, patience is a freaking virtue Eva, get off your high horse and just be there for your man, even if he doesn't feel like opening up! When he's ready he will, so lay off! Jeez, sorry for the ranting but it just kills when I read about a female character scratching to get into a man's core - some female leads need to back off and not be so needy. Anyways, it's a good read. The writing seemed non believable, like when he says her name during sex, just didn't sound right or maybe the narration wasn't believable but hey who am I to say, just an opinion. I wish there were more male narrators....that would be awesome. I don't think I'll continue this series, I wasn't drawn after the second book.

Happy listening all!
Marianne

Hot and Cold

Now that the book is over I can honestly say I ENJOYED it. It ran and hot and cold for me. There were times I was ready to throw my iPod and forced myself to listen. In hind sight what does it say about an author or a book to pull a reader in so far as to illicit a physical response to one or two of the characters or situations? To find your heart beating and mood altered? I was there. I can't imagine I will be alone. If you liked the first book and connected with the characters you will undoubtedly enjoy this one also. Just remember they started off bared and broken. I can't wait for the 3rd book...I recently read on the authors web page it might NOT end at 3!

Patience pays off. My mind is BLOWN.

I'll be totally honest; for the first 3/4 of this book, I was a little exasperated with the constant roller coaster ride that was Ava and Gideon. It was such a twisted web of two messed up people that I started to wonder if they really did belong together, if they would save or just destroy each other. I started to think that their only real connection was physical, especially because Gideon refused to share the deepest parts of himself after almost hurting the one he loves the most (twice). But the last hour and a half made the rest of the book skyrocket in worth. It was revolutionary... the story molded itself into a little mystery of sorts and watching the smart, beautiful Ava figure it out piece by piece was a joy to listen to. I've said before that Jill Redfield is an excellent narrator and I take it back: she's freaking TOP NOTCH. I was enthralled. I had to stop a few times because I was getting so caught up that my own emotions were starting to be affected by listening to this enrapturing tale, beautifully and vividly woven together fates of two screwed up people fumbling through life trying to hang onto each other while the world and their pasts tried to tear them apart. This is worth more than a credit... this series is amazing so far. After you get past the ups and downs of Ava and Gideon trying to accept and understand each other, the plot shifted in a way. Yes, this is a romance through and through, and yes, there are some naughty sex scenes and dirty talk, but I appreciate it so much because it is so much more than that. It's complex and agonizing at times, even exasperating. But I see now the necessity of it all. None of it is superfluous, it all has a reason. And I cannot wait to keep going. The ending had me reeling and I NEED more. Get this book, after you read the first. Be patient with it, let it enfold you in its' realistic yet still somehow surreal nature. Let it cradle you and take you for the roller coaster ride of your life and have faith in these two... you will be rewarded with a story unlike any other. The raw nature of it was astounding to me; I've listened to so many romance books yet this one was more real, more raw, more honest than any other I've listened to/read. I love that the author didn't make it all puppies and rainbows between these lovers, that it was more like real life than some fairy tale where the main characters just want to be together and it's everyone else that hurts them. These two hurt each other but they grow from it. Such a beautiful story, and like I've said, it's worth it. I'm quite the critic when it comes to romance novels but I will be singing this series' praises for a long, long time and looking for more from this author when I'm done with it. Heck, I'd like to shake Sylvia Day's hand myself and thank her for writing such a beautiful and complex love story with these amazingly broken and lovable characters. Buy it, you won't regret it.

Pretty good

As far as the story goes, it's pretty solid. I enjoy it. It's a little too "dirty" for my liking. Some of her descriptive word choices are a little much. It's also not very realistic as far as the things they say to each other, but alas, it's a book so I concede on that one. As far as the performance, I can't stand her. She doesn't put a lot of emotion into her voice (unless it's during a sex scene, in which she sounds like a phone sex operator), and tends to miss some of the proper feelings. Especially in the voice of Gideon. There are points where he mutters "Ava" that are supposed to sound amazed or full of love, and she makes it sound like a child being scorned. But, now that I've listened to the first two books in her voice, I have to continue on because that's how I expect to hear them. Otherwise, not a bad download. I'm still downloading the rest of the books, so I guess that says something.

Another Great Series

I was hooked from the first book of the series. While not the usual tale of goof looking people without a care in the world I knew I would ride the four book series to the end. I actually grew to care about the main characters and each book kept me interested.
