Publisher's summary

For vampire Aidan Murphy, life has never been so desperate. The vaccine used to treat a global pandemic has rendered human blood deadly to his kind, leaving them on the brink of starvation and civil war. In tiny Penton, Alabama, Aidan establishes a peaceful community of vampires and unvaccinated human donors. He dares to hope they can survive - until his estranged brother descends upon Penton and begins killing the humans. Determined to save his town, Aidan kidnaps an unsuspecting human doctor…and finds himself falling in love for the first time in nearly four centuries.

Dr. Krystal Harris thought she was coming to Penton for a job interview, but Aidan Murphy has other plans. Infuriated by his high-handed scheme to imprison her in the small town, Krys can’t ignore the attraction between them. But is it love? Or does her dangerous, charismatic captor want only to bend her to his will?

The story was okay, but didn't hold my attention.

The story had its ups and downs. Some parts were fast paced but others seemed to drag. struggled to finish the book.

CAN I SAT NAV MY WAY TO PENTON PLEASE?

Yes, there's a real overload of vampire books out there now but I found this one is one of the good ones with it's different direction to the usual evil bloodsuckers story. Aidan's dreams of co-existing with the human blood donors in Penton was very touching and so was his feelings for Krystal. Instant attractions between the two grew rapidly until it's ultimate consummation (quite mild on the spice scale) and it was a pleasant change to have a flower growing, thoughtful and mild mannered vampire that's in charge and not the usual strong Alpha vamp.

The imaganative plot includes some very interesting characters that bring more intrigues to the story along with them.

Narrator did a great job and I'm off now to listen to the next in the trilogy about the executioner Mirren's story.

Worth a credit? It's definately absolutely worth a credit but, at $9.79 for 10.5 hours, it's great value for your money so, if you can, I would say just buy it and save your credits for more expensive listens.

Four chapters in with an annoying narrator

I'm reviewing this before I've finished the book because the narrator is so annoying I can't seem to let it go. Angela Dawe speaks every sentence in the same cadence, as though each one is a melodramatic tension point. Her character voices sound very much the same.

I'm going to bull through and see if the story is any good, but for anyone considering this audiobook, I'd recommend listening to as much of the sample as you can. I'll come back at the end of the book and try to review the story itself.

Vampire story in a different angle

What i love about this book:

1.) Story is catchy and different
2.) The pace is reasonably fast and consistent
3.) Sexual tension is off the chart (a bit cliché at times, but can't complain)
4.) Action packed
5.) Absolutely capable narrator

Grab this book! You can't stop listening :) i guarantee....

Good start to a new Vampire series

Food Supplies for Vampires are quickly drying up thanks to a new vaccine for vampirism which renders the human blood poisonous for vampires. Master Vampire named Aiden Murphy and a few vampires moved to Penton, Alabama to establish a peaceful community with vampires and their human familiars (bonded humans called their family or "Fam") who have not had the vaccines.

So with the population of unvaccinated humans dwindled, vampires were starving all over the world and the vampire ruling Tribunal were running out of ideas for a new food supply. Thus Aiden’s community gained the attention of other vampires who envied them and in addition to being worried about a possible rise to power as the only well-fed community. Aiden invites a young doctor named Krystal Harris to come interview to be his community's personal doctor and Krys becomes the object of Aidan's attention. However, his forced detention of Krys broke vampire laws giving the tribunal an opening to target Aiden’s scathe.

I found this book a solid start to the series. I admit the book was kind of predictable and simple in plot, but that is exactly why I loved it. Sometimes stories get bogged down with twists and turns, but this one was just pretty straight forward, thus the story and the writing stood front and center.

I actually liked Aiden’s lieutenants more than I liked him because he was kind of one dimensional in the beginning. I will admit that I didn’t quite understand why Aiden’s brother was as sadistic as he was, but when juxtaposed with Aiden’s character, I could see that Aiden must have been a mirror that Owen hated looking into. But I think Matthias Ludlam is going to be a force to be reckoned with and Aiden will have his hands full protecting his community. Great writing style and great imagery.I look forward to the development of this upcoming war between the Penton residents and the Tribunal.

Excellent

loved it, was a Good new vampire series.
I wasn't sure if I was going to like the book enough to try but after a while I was enjoying the audible book and by the end of the book one here I was interested in Aden the main alpha Vampire and the lovely New Doctor he falls for named Chris. By the end I had to keep reading the next titles in tge series. I have been very happy after continuing to read the rest of the titles after and each perfectly follows the next regardless of what you may read of the description which can leave you wondering if it will be as good or better which it does get better and does keep the characters from each title in the next plus new ones and news surprises and characters that ypu never expected to be written plus different types of romantic relationships with the other characters and leaves you wanting more. The narrator was good no issues actually liked the narrator more and more by the last book after seeing how brilliant this woman can change her voice to sound like a man in so very different ways:)!! I have a hard time finding great Vampire Series of audible or kindle narration added reads. I also recommend if you have not already done so to read for sure Every single kindle with added narration or aubilble version of the books called " The Shade " by the author Bella Forrest, That is an excellent good 15 -16 audible titles in a series tgat you will definitely enjoy and so far the author has so many characters that I love how she always uses many narrators

Excellent Paranormal Romance

The reader is invited to a small town in Penton, Alabama, to witness an unfamiliar world behind the scenes, a world unknown to most. A Vampire world created by Aidan, where vampires and pure-blooded humans coexist, safely, and peacefully. However, trouble begins to brew when Aidan's brother plans to destroy the empire built by Aidan. In a desperate search for answers to protest against total destruction of the fall of his clever empire, Aidan kidnaps a Doctor and bites her in the neck against her will to replenish food supply, then realizes he fell in love with her. A world of vampires are starving and donors of unvaccinated blood are scarce, who will survive? Did Aidan put the love of his life in danger? I highly recommend "REDEMPTION:The Penton Legacy-Book One" to all paranormal romance lovers. The story is mesmerizing, the setting is picture-perfect, and the characters come to life! Susannah Sandlin delivers an addicting debut novel that will send chills up your spine, while entertaining the reader from beginning to end with sparkling romance, and a craving for more.

Looking forward to more

I adore Angela Dawe and I found this book because I was specifically looking for stories narrated by her. I'm not a huge fan of vampire stories, but I found this surprisingly interesting and original. The Penton Legacy is a trilogy - Redemption is followed by Absolution and Omega and I'm looking forward to listening to those when they are available.

I'm hooked!

Really bummed that the 3rd book isn't out yet, but love the first two.

Only a couple of things keep this from getting 5 stars from me.

1. Aiden is the leader, master vamp -- but when he fights his enemy he freezes -- not once but three times. I get that he's conflicted, but the enemy is a killer, and Aiden doesn't defend himself. Just felt wrong. Author needs to show why he's freezing.

2. What happens to Lucy? That storyline just falls off to nothing.

3. The author needs to give the other vamps (there are 55 of them) something to do. Also, organize the humans into useful employment, like driving the vamps around during daylight hours so they don't have to do it themselves.

and finally -- Angela Dawe was good but not great. Don't know what's up with her since I usually enjoy her. This time she sounded like she was shouting everything. Maybe the copy she was reading from was all in caps.

Otherwise, great start to intriguing new series.
