Alabama didn’t have a good start to life. Emotionally and physically abused by her mama, Alabama spent her high school years in foster care. People let her down time after time, and she'd learned to rely on only herself.
Christopher "Abe" Powers earned his nickname because he tolerated nothing less than absolute honesty from the people around him. Finding the bar scene stale and having watched his friend and teammate, Wolf, find the woman of his dreams, Abe was determined to find someone to share his life with, too.
Alabama and Abe had no idea their paths would cross and their prayers would be answered, but like most things in life nothing is ever as easy as it seems at first. Two words would change both their lives, and they'd have to fight hard for their happy ever after.

It's been so long since I've gotten really hooked on a series. I absolutely love the protectiveness, possessiveness and caring of the alpha males in this series. I'll be listening to all of them.
I know, it's cliche, Alpha male saves downtrodden lonely girl. I just have this silly love of the Romantic, the old fashioned fairy tale.. I get shivers from these type of stories. Sigh. I wish there was a category for "Cinderella Story". If I'm going to escape into a book, there's nothing like a quick perk up from a gentleman hero saving a humble and adorable heroine. I get it, though, that the story line isn't terribly engrossing. I just love the emotions Susan Stoker and Stella Bloom evoke in this book. This was my first read from this author. I'm going to go check out her others.
Oh Gawd, this book puts you through the ringer!! Starting off with Alabama's early years. This is not a book for people with triggers!! Be warned things start off rough and child abuse is prevalent. Alabama does not have a very nice begging. It was not happy reading, but necessary for understanding where she is coming from and why she is so shut off.
Abe is a great match for her, it is great seeing him work for her love and trust. Too bad he does something severely stupid and messes things up. I really like that it is not an easy fix for him. She makes him work to gain her trust again.
The interactions between the two are great. The only issue is that the story is rather slow at times. We have too many scenes that are not needed, loads of day to day. It is not a fast paced action read like the first book in the series.
The bedroom door is open and has some nice steam. It isn't the hottest book I have read, but it is far from lukewarm.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Stella Bloom, who has a nice read. She has a wonderful quality to her voice and an appealing tone. She does a fabulous job of keeping voices distinct and consistent. She puts so much energy into the read, you can hear the emotion at key points. Her read was spot on and kept me listening at slower moments in the story.
I read this and Protecting Caroline back to back. I found a few inconstancies in the description of Caroline in this book. The point of the last book hinged on the fact she was very plain and forgettable, suddenly she is beautiful? I guess you could chalk it up to marriage with her SEAL?
*** I hope this review was useful to you and helped your decision to read or not read this book. I love reading and sharing my opinions with other readers. I listen at double speed; all my impressions of the narration are from that setting. Thanks for taking the time to read my review! I held off reading this one as the blurb warned of abuse to the main character. I like to get lost in a book and normally don't enjoy "heavy" emotionally draining books.
Stoker did a very good job and although parts were hard to read ... the early abuse suffered by Alabama at the hands of her mother.... it was a good story and had well developed characters.
Narrator does a very good job.
I loved the story line and the narrorator. I've listened to it multiple times already and even searched and purchased other stories narrorated by Stella Bloom
Not sure. The story was unique.
She brings the story and characters to life.
Loved this book. Hated what happened to Alabama during her short life. Wanted to shoot Abe when he was an ass. Glad he redeemed himself. I'm falling in love with this series
Narrator did a great job of telling us this story
this is what i would call a butterfly story. The woman comes out of her shell and become a butterfly, with the help of a good and strong man. there is less action in this book then in the first installment of the series. but the narrator is a thousand times better.
2nd book of the series I've read and can't wait to start another. Christopher (Abe) does the unthinkable and hurts Alabama . This was a moving book for me because of Alabama's past. I love how the team cared for her while he worked to get her to trust him. My favorite book so far.
