Publisher's summary

Best-selling author Robyn Carr has earned a devoted following for her inspirational tales of love and redemption set in the near-magical confines of Virgin River.

Lilly Yazhi knows all she needs to know about Clay Tahoma. Sure, he’s got a certain appeal befitting his Navajo roots, but she’s not falling for Clay’s silent, “earthy” attractiveness. She certainly won't make the same mistake as Clay’s ex-wife. Only trouble is, her heart and mind have committed to different resolves....

Before it was adapted into a Netflix show, Virgin River was a series of more than 20 novels by New York Times best-selling author Robyn Carr. The audiobooks, all read by Audie Award-winning narrator Thérèse Plummer, are well-loved by a wide audience. The series takes place in Virgin River and revolves around new resident Melinda Monroe, a nurse practitioner and midwife. There's more to this sleepy town than first appearances suggest.

All Characters

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Because, not only is it a good story book, it is a book that offers how to handle a situation if you encounter problems in the family.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Promise Canyon?

I don't have a particular most memorable moment, to be honest I have listened to the entire collection of Virgin River and all the books are outstanding.

Have you listened to any of Therese Plummer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, and Therese Plummer is a wonderful narrator. Listening to her read a book, you can feel the emotions, excitement, and the journey of the book. She is the best narrator I have heard so far!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Most definitely!!!

Any additional comments?

I believe I said it all in the previous questions. If you have not listen to the series of Virgin River, I recommend anyone to listen to them. I give it 2 thumbs up!

HOT hero, non-marine, adds new flavor to the mix

Would you listen to Promise Canyon again? Why?

Yes, rich story and characters. Sensitive to cultural issues; love that Native American characters are very current and believable. Different family values regarding the care of children.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Clay and Lily; they are representative of the many issues confronting all races and cultures in the 21st century as well as of slight 'Romeo and Juliet' problems of tribal differences. Well done.

What aspect of Therese Plummer’s performance would you have changed?

So many characters sound alike; gravelly voices. Older characters sound like they are 90, frail and feeble.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could have listened all in one sitting but appreciate how easy it is to get back to it after a break. Memorable characters.

Any additional comments?

This series touches on aspects of real life; from birth to death.

Love this series!

Sometimes it is difficult to let characters go after reading books. I so love series books because the stories continue and the characters lives grow just like in life. Robyn Carr's books are the best of all worlds. The characters grow and develop and Virgin River is place I'd like to live.

Another trot through Virgin River

Promise Canyon features two new "fall in love" characters Lily and Clay. The book also brings in Native Amercian tradition and culture. And there are horses! RC always has an emotional struggle in her books and this does not disappoint...baggage from the past, pain and disappointment something anyone can relate too. Not as "deep" as other stories but on target. The situations usually work out with a prescribed effort. Previous characters are brought into the story and something very sad happens but in The Virgin River way the town folk come together and heal. New characters are introduced that hopefully lead up to more books...especially "on the search for his birth father" Denny. It is a fantasy community and so nice to visit....and I appreciate happy endings.

A great listen.

A bit of a departure from other's in the series but enough connection with previously introduced characters to be enjoyed as part of the Virgin River series.

Another visit to Virgin River

Ms. Carr deals with the issues of Native Americans in this one, not only Anglo vs Indian, but tribe vs tribe, in forging a life outside the reservation using traditional skills. Our hero and heroine, from different tribes, both have baggage from teenage wild oats, and have become more mature people, but the memories still haunt them - and in the case of our hero, an Anglo ex-wife doesn't want it to be all ex = while she's divorced him, she still wants him at her beck and call. And his considerable skill with horses.

Our old friends in Virgin River are somewhat peripheral to this one, but it's still a visit to a strong community and old friends.

Arrrrrgh!

The best moments in life are the final moments of a book with a happy ending. I find that they are marred or even spoiled by an advertisement for another book. I absolutely detest that.

Therese Plummer is an excellent narrator and should get five stars. There were three mispronounced words. This would be the director’s fault? Editor?

I dread the day I have to leave Virgin River.
