My #1 Favorite book by Julie Garwood

This is a heartwarming story that starts in a London ballroom and ends in a cabin on a Montana Teritory homestead outside a middle-of-nowhere town. It has historical elements that really make this one unique, with constant quotes from Shakespere(sp), glamorization of Daniel Boon and Davey Crocket, "Mountain Men", and the eronious belief that if something has been published in a book it has to be true.

Another great element about this book is the low smut level. The main characters of the story are maried before they even meet on the pages, though they do not know eachother at all, and there is no actual sex until almost half way through the very large book. In an industry that seems to think that a good romance has to have sex by page 90, this is beyond refreshing.

This book has better developed suporting characters than many of Garwood's other books. All of them are well rounded, completely dynamic, and non-2dimentional.

The narator does a good job of getting the character tones right too.

Loved it!

This was just one of those stories that clicked with me.

In the first hour I was concerned that the heroine Taylor was going to be a cookie-cutter Mary Sue, but I was pleasantly surprised when she started showing her flaws. By halfway through she'd developed into a very endearing character that I just couldn't help but root for.

The hero, Lucas, wore all of his vices on his sleeve initially and while he was handsome and mildly chivalrous it was hard to envision him as a Prince Charming. His character development was equally wonderful and geez if he didn't turn out to be everything a girl could want in a man!

Taylor was no wilting flower. The task she had to take on was more than just about any woman could have handled, and Lucas was just the man to champion her. The story is sixteen hours and their romance was not rushed, you really got to see two completely opposite people fall in love with one another and it was absolutely wonderful.

If you're a fan of period romances, be ready to lose sleep because it's really hard to turn off!

One of the very best!

Well written - charming story - excellent narrator. Humor, pathos, great story line... what more could you want!?! Rosalyn does her usual amazing job of voicing the various characters in a believable, and charming way. Julie is at her best with a touching, innovative twist on the story line. Though there is some slight darkness in the background to the story, it's not allowed to intrude on the uplifting feeling that pervades the book. Just adds to the satisfaction of a great resolution. Well done!

nice twist on the fairy tale

This isn't the typical 'prince charming' book. Grew to like this heroine a lot, at first I wondered whether that would be the case. But the detailed dialogue and descriptions of her thoughts, and those of Lucas, really helped see the personalities. Yes you can tell this is an older book. But for me that did not detract from the enjoyment. Sometimes I laughed out loud at Taylor's comments, and how she accepted anything that was written, or published, as being absolutely true. And the things the children said made me chuckle also. The only reason I didn't give the story 5 stars was because sometimes it was a little slow, a few too many minute details that might not have been necessary. But the story was interesting throughout, with plot twists gradually revealed that linked Taylor to her past in England. The other characters were also fun to follow. As usual this narrator did an excellent job. This does rank as one of my favorites.

Lost in the story...

I'm a true fan of Julie Garwood..I've never been disappointed with any of her books and Prince Charming is no exception...I felt like I was on the journey with Taylor and Lucas through the American Wilderness..Taylor's childhood dream coming true is proof we should all dream and know each dream will come true. May not be exactly the way we dreamed it, but, dreams do come true.

A disappointment

Sorry, I was disappointed in this book - probably because it was older (written in early 90s), but JG glossed over the exciting parts until the end. Just when I thought it was going to get interesting, she tells us what happened with no action on what actually took place. So glad this isn't the case with the FBI books. Congrats to JG for really improving her writing style.

Laugh Out Loud

A fun listen, entertaining. Great narrator. Addresses orphan trafficking and has an old west take the perpetrators out solution. Illustrates how far we have come in America in changing old world entitlement issues.

Top of the List

If I make a list of my favorite 20 books, this one would be top of the list.

The story is solid and the characters are all very strong and believable. There is not just one wonderful love story, but two, and both are sweet believable stories with no overabundance of sex which doesn't fit into the story.

There are also some wonderful secondary characters - truly characters- that give the story fun and interest.

Definitely on worth listening to more than once.

Delightful and Well Paced

Any additional comments?

The story grew on me to the point of being sad it ended when it did. The story is full of tension and humor in just the right doses. If you like stories of perseverance rewarded, you will enjoy it.

Very Entertaining

What made the experience of listening to Prince Charming the most enjoyable?

The main characters were strong and smart. The tale had loads of substance and plot. It wasn't just about two idiots pining over each other.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Taylor, because she wasn't an idiot. She was a good strong Lead.

Which character – as performed by Rosalyn Landor – was your favorite?

Taylor. She has a good accent for British society. Her american man accent needed a little work at first.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Daniel/David Switching names was inventive and fun.
