To most, they are animals—even when in human form. They are to be collared and kept on the fringes of society, scorned because they are feared, hated for their extraordinary powers. And attorney Kim Fraser has to go right into the heart of their lair. It’s her job to defend those in need. But there’s absolutely nothing defenseless about Liam Morrissey. His soft Irish lilt and feline grace can’t disguise his sheer strength. Nor can the silver chain at his throat, designed to control the aggression of his kind, completely reassure her that this man has been tamed. Yet when a feral shifter begins to stalk them both, Liam is the only one she trusts with her life. She’ll let him claim her—for her protection, for her pride, and for a passion that knows no bounds.

Sassy dialogue, humor, and a great reader are important to me.
Never another book read by Traci Odom. Irish accent good, but it could not make up for poor reading skills. Speed was Ok, but Odom does not have the range to be a good reader. Author had a good outline, but needed better editing. I would not buy another of this authors work unless listeners gave it an great must buy rating.
Immortal series much better.
story needs more work before movie material
I'm a Romance Junkie! Love Whispersycn Deals! Tips I use: Sort reviews Most Recent; play with narration speed, some narrators sound better.
I've listened to several of Jennifer Ashley's historical romance stories from the Highland Pleasure series and loved them, even though I'm not big on historical romances. I'm more into paranormal romances so when I realized Jennifer also writes a shifter series, I had to give them a try.
While checking out the first story in the Shifters Unbound series, Pride Mates, I was surprised to see many of the reviews indicating they were disappointed with the story. I'm not deterred from getting a book just because it has some bad reviews but after listening to the story, I understood why some would be disappointed with the story.
While I felt the story was missing something, it was still a good. If I start an audiobook that does not grasp my attention and keep me engaged, I will discontinue listening to it. I've got several unfinished books in my library that I just could not make it to the end; however, this story had decent character development and action, which kept me engaged and I do plan on listening to the other stories in the series.
Traci Odom did a great job narrating and I liked her Irish accent for Liam.
Loving my life and hanging out with my four grandchildren!
I'd recommend the book but not read by Traci Odom! I really like the story line that Jennifer Ashley has taken with her writing. I even like her historical romance writings, and this series does not disappoint, but the narration really made the story dull and hard to listen too. If you want to read this one, I say get the hard copy you will enjoy it much more!
I would compare this book to those written by Jacquelyn Frank. I really enjoy her series also!
No!! No!! NO!!!!!!!
I could see this being a tv series. Who could star...maybe Jason Momoa. That is one fine man!
If you like reading the whole series and getting to know the character in each book, Jennifer Ashley delivers, but do yourself the favor, don't try to listen to Traci Odom read them. You'll just be disappointed!
Based upon the reviews, I tried this book and was very disappointed. The story concept was unique and had a lot of promise but the execution was not at all what I had hoped for. The main characters are seemingly in love almost instantly, the dialogue is frequently repetitive and stilted and does not convincingly convey the characters' emotions. Perhaps I would have liked the book had the performance been better. It is one of the worst read audiobooks I have purchased on audible in years. Other than trying to have an Irish accent for a main character, the narrator read the novel so fast, with no distinction between characters, sentences and/or chapters, I just wanted her to take a breath and stop for 3 seconds between chapters. She read the book in a monotonous tone that was painful to listen to, I kept listening only because I was hoping that this would get better. It never did. I would be willing to give the author another try but only in print.
There is technically nothing wrong with Ashley's writing, but her characters lack distinct personalities. I couldn't really get interested in the characters because there was no depth. And what there was of the characters and the story had the life sucked out of them by the narrator. I'm sure she's good at something, like textbooks or self-help. Her delivery was just so stiff and rushed. There was no natural flow. It just sounded like she was nervous about reading in front of the class. But, then again, the author didn't give her much to work with.
I really enjoy the world of books! Narration just add layers to that world... don't u think? :)
I am loving the mate thing right now. Wolf, bear, shifter or whatever and this book does not disappoint.
Liam Morrissey is a shifter and second in command of his shifter town and clan. Kim is lawyer and a human who strolls in shifter town looking to defend another shifter for a recent murder. Liam kind of goes into mating frenzy with Kim and Ashley just does and awesome job developing the story about the shifter town, the clan and how the shifters are treated alongside the human population. I usually don't like my shifter to be mistreated, but it totally works in this book, because they are but they are actually stronger because of it. So I made me happy. I love when Liam collar comes off he goes all Super Liam! Gonna kill everything in sight!!! Priceless!!!
Ashley is a great period writer as well, from her McKenzie brother series...So I love how the guy gets the girl, then guy lose the girl, then guy get the girl back played out in this book. Just like a classic romance novel, but in shifter format! Totally awesome. I loved it. And Liam bit her. LOVED IT!!!! Like I said...I am totally into the whole mate thing right now.
Narration was actually really good. This is my first Odom book. I liked her accents and variation of shifters voices. I love narrators who change their voice inflections. Odom did a great job.
A great buy/credit.
Great start to new series.
Great listening. Written excellent and right now buying the next book too see who makes it next. Totally love it. Very refreshing. Honestly I didn't think I would like it. I bought 4 I just couldn't get past 5 minutes. This was a welcome surprise.

This was a cute read, I'm somewhat interested in the next book-see if they decide to branch off on their own without collers. Also, to see what happens with the main characters father.
