Publisher's summary

Payton Kendall and J. D. Jameson are lawyers who know the meaning of objection. A feminist to the bone, Payton has fought hard to succeed in a profession dominated by men. Born wealthy, privileged, and cocky, J. D. has fought hard to ignore her. Face-to-face, they're perfectly civil. They have to be. For eight years they have kept a safe distance and tolerated each other as coworkers for one reason only: To make partner at the firm.

But all bets are off when they're asked to join forces on a major case. Though apprehensive at first, they begin to appreciate each other's dedication to the law - and the sparks between them quickly turn into attraction. But the increasingly hot connection does not last long when they discover that only one of them will be named partner. Now it's an all-out war. And the battle between the sexes is bound to make these lawyers hot under the collar...

Worth a credit? 👍🏻

This story is a fun “enemies to lovers” romance. The hero and heroine are lawyers both vying for a partnership at the law firm where they’ve both worked for eight years. After an unfortunate misunderstanding, they become involved in a feud/prank war that quickly gets out of hand, but will soon have you laughing. At one point, I wasn’t sure if there would be any romantic scenes in this book except for the fact that there is a lot of sexual tension between the pair. This story is sizzling and sexy without being too dirty. IMHO, I say go ahead and use that credit and enjoy!

Great story if you don't mind conflict

This story pits two lawyers against each other, competing for a partnership in their firm. It's exceptionally well written with characters you care for, a story line that moves along and has witty repartee. I would have given it 5 stars but I personally don't care for a story line that has a lot of conflict in it. This is a PG version of Julie James, not the steamy side you see in her FBI series. I highly recommend it.

This romantic comedy should be made into a movie

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I think the narrator did a fine job, but I thought her voice sounded too old for the characters.

Any additional comments?

Delightful story that should be made into a romantic comedy movie.

By the third chapter our handsome hero J.D. was appearing to be a real jack-hole. Actually, I found both the hero and the heroine to be career greedy idiots. It was a totally different take on a couple for me. And, I just loved it.

What I loved the most about this story was every time I thought I had the feud figured out I would be wrong. This war of roses tale was so funny. There was two scenes that were hilarious. In one scene I kept thinking, oh Payton Don’t NOT do it.... The scene with Payton in the court room was priceless, and it’s where I came to the conclusion that this story is movie worthy.

The only complaint I have with the story is the happy for now ending. I figured out how the competition would end and it was perfect. But, I really wanted to see more of this couple and their future

Falls apart in the middle.

Any additional comments?

The book starts fine, but falls apart in the middle when the main characters start acting like children. The book comes back together, but it doesn't make up for the implausible events earlier in the book.

Great book!

Really loved the story and love the author. The only thing that bothered me was the accent of the character Jasper. Not everyone from Florida has an accent. Especially people who live in Palm Beach. The voice sounded like Foghorn Leghorn!

Love at the Office

Julie James always starts with attractive young men and women, adds a splash of irony and humor, shakes the mix well and presents us with another sweet story of attraction and love. There are four of these slightly interconnected stories, and characters from one story show up in the others. Fun and romantic, these stories are light and satisfying reading or uh, listening.

Julie James and Karen White hit another homer!

This funny book about two long-time associate attorneys scratching their way into a partnership position is another Julie James and Karen White slam-dunk. So much fun to listen to, I didn't want it to end. Posturing, banter and smoldering attraction come together - finally! These two are like the dog magnets that repel each other. What is supposed to be a hands-off professional relationship finally falls into bed.

That's all I will say, except Karen White is so much fun to listen to! I bought this because she was narrator and because I had guiltily bought a Julie James book in the past and loved it! I will buy more, definitely.

Thanks, Julie and Karen - you are a dynamic duo!

Great romance, fade to black scenes though

Narration could've used duet style, and the fade to black intimate scenes made me SUPER sad and could have been better presented/elaborated on,... seriously left me bereft lol, but other than that, the plot was super cute like The Hating Game a little and I loved the Pride and Prejudice references :)

Fun story - mostly

Overall opinion: 3.75 Stars - I actually liked the story although I did skip past some of the overly drawn out, silly battles between the two main characters. The H starts out as a sexist pig and the h is an uptight feminist. As the story progresses, you learn what turned their relationship sour and they both soften and become more human to each other. The mother is a trip and makes the daughter seem conservative 😉). The ending drama is definitely born of an immature act which shows how the lacked confidence on the inside while trying to project an overly confident air!
