Publisher's summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author J.R. Ward explores what really happens when good and evil toy with humanity in her new novel of the Fallen Angels, as the salvation of a doomed soul depends once again on a crossroads....

When Cait Douglass resolves to get over her broken heart, throw off her inhibitions, and start really living, she's unprepared for the two sensual men who cross her path. Torn between them, she doesn't know which to choose - or what kind of dire consequences could follow.

Jim Heron, fallen angel and reluctant savior, is ahead in the war, but he puts everything at risk when he seeks to make a deal with the devil - literally. As yet another soul is unwittingly caught in the battle between him and the demon Devina, his fixation on an innocent trapped in Hell threatens to sidetrack him from his sacred duty....

Can good still prevail if true love makes a savior weak? And will a woman's future be the key, or the curse, for all of humanity? Only time, and hearts, will tell.

Definitely a Game Changer

This installment of the Fallen Angels series is definitely a game-changer. Jim’s decision to save Sissy has impacted his ability to “play the game” and it leaves Ad and team with dire consequences. It seems that Jim, Sissy and even Devina are now at a crossroads and every decision they make can have a long and lasting impact on how the rest of the war is played out. I can’t even begin to imagine what JR Ward has planned for the continuation of this story. After 5 books I’m still surprised and shocked with how this story is unfolding.

Possession focuses more on Jim Heron and Sissy and less on the soul in question. It was a little different from the previous books but definitely added to the intensity of the story. There is so much more to come with these characters and I can’t wait until the next book. I haven’t been this excited since book 1.

On a technical note, I’m glad the audio team worked out the issues from the previous book. Eric Dove is delicious as ever and I thoroughly enjoyed his narration.

IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED OBSESSION

Poor Jim has lost the plot and is obsessed with Sissy which endangers not only the unfortunate soul in need of guidance but also the ongoing good v evil battle and I wanted to shout at him "for God's sake (literally) get back in the game man". However, in the end, something dire happens that really shakes him up then he realises his judgement was at fault and that, thankfully, brings him back.

Jim's relationship with Sissy, and her life, consumes a lot of the plot so this isn't as action-packed as previous books but it's still a very enjoyable well-written addition with the usual snappy, quick and funny dialogue that JRW excels at.

Cait suddenly has the choice of two handsome men - GB who's a sexy singer and Duke who's an even sexier Bouncer (ahhh decisions, decisions, decisions) and you're kept guessing just who the soul that needs saving is until the very end. Cait does have a very sexy time with one of her admirers but the whole dilemma is 'will she choose the right one?' because they've all been left without any 'heavenly' guidance for too long.

Devina makes some sneaky appearances but she doesn't really bring havoc and destruction like we know she can and she seems to have mellowed a bit but what she does meddle in has some nasty consequences.

Worth a credit? If you're following the FA Series then this is, of course, a must, if you're a fan of JRW then this is a must and, if you're a paranormal romance lover and haven't yet listened to any of these books yet, then this series is a must.... so it's a YES from me.

Possession

Not a fan of this one, Devina the Demon is at it again cheating and being just weird. Jim and this Sissy thing have me scratching my head. I liked her until she got out of He – L – L, since then she has kind of just been meh.
I was expecting this strong a – s – s B to come back from He – L – L.

And the side story I felt took a back seat, and if that was part of the game it should have been front and center.
I don’t know I am just meh on this book. On to the next!

Eric’s performance was good.

I struggle with this series

After falling in love with the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward I eagerly began to read The Fallen Angels series hoping it would grab me just like BDB. But that just isn't the case. I've read each book in the series and each time I it is like pulling teeth to get through them. Typically I binge read (listen) to books but not these. They tend to take at least a week for me to get through and when I finish I feel a sense of relief.

Needless to say, this series is a HUGE struggle for me to get through and Possession was no different. Yes, the story is interesting and has a unique twist...but there if just *something* missing for me.

If you love the BDB series as I do don't assume this series and book are the same. They just aren't the same.

Great, as usual

I have read/listened to all of this author's paranormal books & one of her contemporary romances. She never fails, IMO, when it comes to her paranormal books, and this one is no different. You don't have to have read previous Fallen Angels books to enjoy this one, but it's a treat to see the progression of things and then, at the end, to began the anxious process of waiting for the next installment. And the ending prepares the listener well to look forward to the next Fallen Angels book and to wonder when it will end. It can't be much longer unless there's a wrench thrown in the heavenly plan. You have to read the books to know what I mean.
The book has sex in it, but it's not explicit, doesn't use explicit language, and is not gratuitous. And sexual tension and innuendos are also present. But, for some people's taste, it might be too much. So be warned. My opinion is based on comparisons to erotica and books that walk a fine line b/c I listen to plenty of both, as well as general romances. I would place the level of sex herein with sex in some of the romances by Lisa Kleypas, Stephanie Laurens (historical romance), Linda Howard or Sandra Brown.
The book makes total sense. You don't have to suspend complete disbelief--other than buying the paranormal presence in the form of angels & demons--to get it. There is nice suspense as well as romance throughout. And there are no slow times or dull moments, though it's not pulse-pounding either. It's just GOOD through and through. And you don't foresee everything, which is nice, and there's a bit of a surprise near the end, which changes things a bit. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the h acts dumbly during the harrowing incident with her H near the end of the story. It's plausible but dumb. And the narrator is good, but the male voices tend to run together and hard to distinguish sometimes. But he has several to portray. And it doesn't detract from the listen.
Fans of this author will continue to be fans if you listen to his book, and newbies will, likely, jump on board the J.R. Ward fan wagon, the J.R. Ward paranormal fan wagon, that is. Enjoy.

The War is heating up....

I feel like I've been waiting on this FOREVER! And it was so...bittersweet to be back w/ Jim and the gang in this one. No deets from me, but I'll just say this wasn't my favorite Angel book so far ~ I finished this book worried about Jim, not fully satisfied w/ love story, and felt like it REALLY ended on an abrupt note. Yup, I get it ~ it'll keep us coming back for more. But like w/ the BDB this one just wasn't as satisfying for me as they used to be. Davina was even a little dissapointing in this one, seems like she's softening up ~ or is just so distracted by her obsession w/ Jim that's she's losing focus on the War.

The narration was EXCELLENT! I adore the way Eric Dove does Jim, AD, and in this case Duke.

"Sad to say but Giving up on this series"

I can't believe this is writing by J. R. Ward. This story fall short on character development and there is a great deal of predictability in the writing. This book left me with a great deal of apathy for the rest of the series.

Confused.....

Although I do love this series, I am a little confused as to whats up with Jim, Im not sure where Ms.Ward is taking the storyline, I thought he was to save 7 souls, but its more like saving one soul who was not one of the 7.
As always Eric Dove narration is perfect and I look forward to the next book.

BEST So Far!

Love this story! No Spoiler Alerts hate them

I noticed with this book and book 4 Rapture the tone is not dry and monotonousness it has a more charged tone in the beginning. In this book the story is not at all what you think or believe, it will keep you guessing and wondering right up until the very end ! I am really looking forward to the next one.

A little insight: Good has three wins Bad has one, as you may know Jim has been trying to free Sissy's soul from Devina. In the last book Rapture he makes a deal with the demon to free Sissy's soul, in Possession Devina the demon takes the deal to give up Sissy for a winning flag, so now good and evil is tied and the story rolls from there. Good luck in trying to figure out what is what in this book

Eric dove always does an amazing job in narrating the story and voices, my only wish is that they get a women to do the woman's part because men trying to falsetto in high voices does not work, but he makes a go of it.

Because of the first three books and the dry tone to them I never go back to a second listen to, but I will be definitely listening to this one again!

"Fabio without the cheese hair"

My headline about Fabio is a quote from the book. JR Ward never ceases to amaze me where she comes up with some of her sayings, but I love them. This newest addition is right up there with the rest, and they have the audio problem worked out with Eric Dove, so it sounds like the earlier books. (The audio in "Rapture"was really rushed, and ruined Eric's narration) That being said, this episode really focuses on Sissy and Jim, to the point of Jim being totally distracted from the race. The side story of Kate, Duke, and GB just had to work itself out to a point, and wasn't clear for most of the book, whom the target person was. I suppose there was a reason for so much on Sissy that can't be seen until the next installment, but it did seem a little too detailed on her past at times. That would be my only complaint, as I did really enjoy listening to the book, and did finish all 14 hours of it in 2 days. As with the others, Ms Ward adds in a cameo appearance of a character or two from the BDB series, just to keep things interesting.
