Publisher's summary

There are sensuous pleasures that can only be tasted in the night....

He comes to her in the twilight between sleep and consciousness to fulfill her secret desires. Lyssa Bates has never experienced such ecstasy, brought to her by a man whose deep, soul-penetrating blue eyes hold the promise of tempting intimacies and decadent pleasures. But this stranger, this lover, this immortal seducer is only a dream - a phantom of her nocturnal fantasies - until he appears, inexplicably, at her door in the flesh!

Lyssa aches for the reality of him, but there is grave danger in surrender. Because Captain Aidan Cross is on a mission, and the passion that consumes them both, body and soul, could have dire consequences in a world of dreams...and in the waking one as well.

Every girl's dream come true!

If you could sum up Pleasures of the Night in three words, what would they be?

Tantalizing, Suspenseful, funny

What was one of the most memorable moments of Pleasures of the Night?

One of the most memorable moments is when Aidan returns to Lyssa in her dream after being at the gate. Lyssa is in a meadow near stream; Aidan appears after a month of not seeing Lyssa, they make delicious passionate love and he realizes that all this time Lyssa has been seeing his face and not some made up fantasy. This whole time he thought she was seeing a figment of her imagination, but she wasn't, she could really see him and it was his beautiful face she loved and adored.

Which character – as performed by Shana Savage – was your favorite?

Connor, by far. I love the sarcasm and edge in his voice. I really loved her performance of Connor.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

When the pleasures of the night come true.

Any additional comments?

I wish with all my might that Sylvia Day will finish book 3 soon, because I truly believe that this needs to be a movie. Everyone I talk to about this series I tell, "This is good enough to be a movie", and it really is. Suspense, lies, SEX- great sex, deceit, love, determination, oh and did i mention sex? The best story for a movie in a while! Hollywood need something like Dream Guardians!

Interesting story...not good...not the worst

First, I will always compare everything by DAY to the CROSSFIRE Series. Interesting, the name of the male lead is Aiden Cross. These 'of the night' novels do not compare.
The topic of - dream travel to/from random planes of existence - is ok - could have been much better written. Disappointment in DAY.
The production, specifically the narrator, is beneath sub par. It is a painful listen. All voices sound the same and what kind of accent is it that changes with each characters' line spoken?
Interesting, as well, is the cost. Both novels of the series cost a CREDIT or purchase of $20.+ USD when, IMHO, much better novels are available. Narration/production, as noted - sub par...below subpar.
Does DAY have ANY approval her narrated books?
I try not to use a CREDIT, nor do I buy any item for anything less than the monthly Audible fee. Losing money is not my idea of budgeting well.
Look further.

I just can't. Find another narrator.

Would you be willing to try another book from Sylvia Day? Why or why not?

I have listened to many of Sylvia's books......the majority of which are performed by Jill Redfield.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator on an audiobook is what makes it or breaks it. The narrator's Irish brogue just wasn't believable and it was horribly inconsistent.

Not sure?

Where to start... Ok.. I like Sylvia Day. The Crossfire series is awesome. This one... I don't know. The smex was simply amazing... however the story was so confusing. Well not really confusing but very unrealistic. Since this is a fantasy paranormal novel, unrealistic should be ok however for this book... I don't know, it just wasn't.

Adrien is a supernatural that goes into dreams and protect the dreamer from nightmares (who are supernatural creatures). The Elders from Adrien's side plan to kill a dreamer (main female) because she can see Adrien in the dreams. Apparently Adrien kind can manipulate the dreamer into seeing their fantasies in dreams. Adrien falls in love and wants to be her but two different worlds and all. Besides all the raunchy smex the story is kinda hard to follow along b/c you can't really tell when they are in the dream and not. But I am assuming since Adrien cannot come into the dreamer's real world, they must be in the dream world every time the couple gets together. Very weird. Unusual for Sylvia Day, but I sure I am just not understanding this book.

Not a buy. Wait for a credit. Worth a listen, but I think to much concentration is required to listen.

Narrator was good. Almost a Xe Sands performance.

I don’t know.

I’m not sure what it is with this book but it just doesn’t have it. I usually like Sylvia Day books but this one is almost painful to listen too. I can’t decide if it’s the writing or the narrator.

Disappointing, Should Have Believed the Reviews

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I very much like Sylvia Day's first Crossfire book and thought the concept of this book would provide a somewhat (rated it 3 stars) interesting and fresh paranormal twist. I really can't say who would enjoy the audio book (see comments below). But fans of Day who also enjoy paranormal might want to READ the book, but I cannot recommend the audio.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I didn't finish the story, the narration was so annoying, I really can't comment on changes that could improve the story. But of what I read, the concept was somewhat interesting.

What didn’t you like about Shana Savage’s performance?

The erotica could have been good as written, Sylvia Day is very good at writing 'heat', but the narration stripped all that could have been sensual/sexual about those sections. And frankly that's one of the primary reasons for buying the book! So that was a significant disappointment!! Shana Savage is fine with the female voices, but her male voices sound like monotone Midwest teenage boys, trying to sound sexy by deepening their voices AND at the same time, unsuccessfully attempting Scottish accents!! It was so annoying to listen I didn't finish the book!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed based on all above.

Lackluster performance poor plotline

So far the Crossfire Series is the only writing Day has captured me with. I've tried the Georgian series, The Marked Novels and the Renegade Angel series. The Dream Guardians was my final attempt to like her other story lines, and I'm deeply dissatisfied. I eagerly look forward to the next Crossfire book, but I give up on her other storylines. Note: Very poorly read with little to no inflection.

Not good strory/Narrator is terrible

I am a SD fan from the Gideon Cross days. I was extremely excited to purchase this book. My first hint that it was a stinker should have been the last name of the main character....Cross. I stopped and started this book a few times hoping it would grow on me...it has not. The narrator is horrible. The male charater is supoosed to have a "Welsh or Scottish" accent. I think the narrater forgets and slips into something else. No matter, because when she remembers the accent leaves a lot to be desired. The story line is a wreck and the flow of the story is all over the place. I will ask for my credit back.

Very confusing

I love Sylvia Day but this story line was just very confusing and the performance was bad. Her accents were terrible. Not for sure if I will continue with the series.

awful narrator! Book sooo much better

This was one of my all time favorite books, the narrator was terrible. So unprofessional. It was as if she was telling a story at a teenage sleep over. Every time she narrated the sex scene she was way to into it!
I enjoyed the story very much. It drops off at the end, to which I had forgotten about. She destroyed Aiden Cross for me. He does not sound like that.
Whom ever produced this book needs a new job.
