Fueled by the knowledge that notoriety is better than failure, witty, unconventional Josie does what no proper young lady should - she challenges fate. She discards her corset and flirts outrageously. She attends the horse races and allows an arrogant rakehell to whisk her behind the stables for a surreptitious kiss....and is caught!
She doesn't want to marry the young hellion? but who's to help? Her chaperone keeps disappearing for mysterious appointments; her guardian is on his wedding trip; and his friend the Earl of Mayne is too busy staring into the eyes of his exquisite French fiancee.
Can a marriage forced by stuffy convention and unwilling desire become the match of the season?

ONE OF THE BEST. I'VE LISTENED TO MANY AUDIO BOOKS AND THIS IS MY FIRST REVIES
WHEN JOSIE THROUGH THE MANURE
WHEN THE EARL OF MAYNE SHOWS JOSIE HOW STRUT HER STUFF
I CAN'T WAIT FOR AUDIBLE GETS THE REST OF THE ESSEX SISTER SERRIES
The narrator was idas for this series. She really brings you into the book.
This is the finale to my favorite series.
Mayne gives Josie her first kiss, and finds the kiss effected him so strongly that it surprised him. I also loved the part when Mayne was comparing is fiance to Josie and finds he preferred Josie more in every way, and then became jealous when other men paid Josie attention.
A restless love finds it's perfect match.
The first two books in this series are so valuable to this series, it would be wonderful if the entire series were in audio format. The first book in this series is one of my all time favorites, and I have literally read hundreds of romances. I believe they would be snapped up in a heartbeat.
Never judge a book by its movie
at least as good!
Kiss at Midnight also by Eloisa James
I just love her voice, I know some reviewers don't like it, but I love EVERYTHING she narrates. She has a great "guys" voice.
Yes, I think I almost did!
This is one of the sweetest books. I loved Josie, she'd be a wicked chick to hang with!
Say something about yourself!
The narrator was not good at all. She whispered through out the whole book. Hard to get into it in the beginning.
Yes as long as the narrator is not the lady whisperer
AS LONG AS SHE"S NOT AT A WHISPER. She got very annoying
I guess the beginning I just didn't get it
Wish I could get my credit back
The story line and how it all comes together to keep you listing and not wanting the book to end. Good thing there is more books in the series. ENJOY!!!
Everything about the story
This book and the series is a MUST MUST listen to
This had to be one of the most boring books, the plot was silly. I only finished listening to it because I thought it might get better. It never did. Narrator was the worst especially when attempting accents.
A book lover with a romantic soul, but willing to take a leap of faith. I LOVE to get sucked into a story and live there for a bit.
The sweet Josie wedges herself into a corset to make herself fit into the dresses that all the other girls wear. By doing this, she only makes herself look bigger. That is the beginning of this very sweet story. I enjoyed it MOSTLY, but there were a few things that I just could not quite stomach. I Loved the Hero. He is sweet and finds himself falling for a girl who needs his support. The problem is, he is engaged to be married and professes his love for his fiancée every other page. Then suddenly, he kisses Josie and starts to fall for her. Sounds like a lukewarm love affair. Not my idea of a steadfast hero, but it does explain itself in the book and gets all tied up with a bow. That is alright. The other problem I have is that the Heroine seems smart and charming, but then gets winey and petulant. I had a harder time warming up to her. That surprised me because she is a chubby heroine and I totally relate to that. I thought I would love her, but she is so weak and needy that I almost don't like her. She does find her wings and in the end there is a wonderful HEA but to be honest, the last 1/2 of the book is far far better than the first 1/2. If you choose this book (and it really is not a bad choice) just hang out because it does get quite good in the end. I recommend it.
