Publisher's summary

A secret government unit is formed under the oversight of Adam Harrison, famed paranormal investigator. The six members he’s gathered know a little of the otherworldly - each has honed a psychic talent of their own.

Jackson Crow, part English, part Cheyenne, heads the group. Haunted by his experience with an ancestral ghost who saved his life as a child, and the recent murders of two previous teammates, Jackson can’t tell if Adam’s demoted him or given him an extraordinary opportunity. Despite his link to the realm of spirits, he’s well aware that the living commit the most heinous crimes, with spiritualist charlatans existing merely to fool and seduce the unwary.

To counterbalance Jackson’s careful skepticism, Adam Harrison has paired him with Angela Hawkins, a young woman who learned the painful lesson of loss at an early age. A police officer utilizing her paranormal intuition in Virginia, she already has her hands full. But Adam’s call to New Orleans is strong.

The case: In a historic mansion in New Orleans’ French Quarter, a senator’s wife falls to her death from a balcony. Most think she jumped, distraught over the loss of her young son. Some say she was pushed. And yet others believe she was beckoned by the ghostly spirits that inhabit the house - once the site of a serial killer’s grisly work. Whether supernatural or all too human, crimes of passion, greed, and desire will cast the pair into danger of losing their lives... and their immortal souls.

had potential but fell short

The premise was good, but there's a lot of parts that are awkward and just not realistic as far as interaction between characters. The narration as well was just not very good, I may give book 2 a try since I see Luke daniels takes over narration for the series and he's excellent but if the writing and awkwardness doesn't improve I won't continue after that.

Nice easy read

A little predictable and the ending felt rushed. That being said, it was still a good read.

Terrible Narration

I absolutely hate I wasted a credit on this book. The story was good, but the narration was terrible. It sounded as if he was reading the book. His accent for the characters were poor, as well.
Don’t waste your credits.

good story overall

I enjoyed the story but found the graphic sex unnecessary and distracting. I'll try 1 morr.

Good book, but it took a while.

Started so slow and strange, not sure I was going to be able to stand it. Kept listening and finally the plot grabbed my attention and it all needed well. Glad I made myself give it a second and third chance to get better.

Good author, good reader.....but

The premise of the story was excellent, and Cummings did a great job.

The sex took away from the story and the way it was portrayed missed the mark. It obviously was written for an audience who wanted sex described in a way that would make the sun and moon stop their journey in amazement. It was a distraction. Too soon, too long, too perfect a connection, and no consequences. *shrugs* This may simply mean I am the wrong audience for this book.

I'll avoid any other comments because it would give the plot away. Ms. Graham has talent, and it will grow even more.

Great series, and could be read out of order

I really like this series, but being a Luke Daniels fan, I like his narration much better. I didn't start in order, my local library only has 10 of the books on audio, so I'm used to his narration.

The author does a great job of the historical research, and the supernatural vibe is excellent!

The only thing I dislike about the series - it's repetitive to have the main characters fall in love with each other and become long-term couples in less than a week. The author has 32 books in the series, and I've read 15 books all of which, the main characters have great sexual tension, have mind blowing sex, and "fall in love" in a week.

Narrator sounds too stiff

This was my first Heather Graham book and I felt it had good characters and a good mystery but I didn't like the narrator all that much. He made the women sound very falsetto with airy voices and the main male character sounded stiff and not too manly in my opinion. Almost like a character in the old sitcom Dragnet.

Awful Narrator

It was a very great book very interesting story but the narrator was the most awful narrator I have ever had Bad luck of hearing! Heather Graham is a great novelist and her work with the psychic and ghost stories are great I plan to listen to the rest of them although it was a little bit of a slow start on this one but at overall I thought it was a great book!
