Publisher's summary

Sophie Katz has just offered a man $12,000 for his services. Is she desperate or just meshugeneh?

Considering the kind of disasters that usually befall the half-black, half-Jewish mystery writer, probably both. Because the last time Sophie saw sexy P.I. Anatoly Darinsky, he practically danced a jig when she waved goodbye; a normal reaction for a man who'd nearly bought the farm trying to protect her from her own foolishness. What are the chances he'd agree to take incriminating pictures of her sister's philandering husband? Or that he'd let her tag along, you know, for research?

But when her brother-in-law turns up dead and her sister becomes the prime suspect, Sophie's priority is finding the real killer. With or without Anatoly's help. Her brother-in-law's secret life yields plenty of suspects, but the San Francisco police aren't taking any of them seriously. So Sophie does what comes naturally to her: she stirs up trouble (to lure the killer out, of course).

But if her crazy plan works, will Anatoly be there to protect her this time?

Solve another case with Sophie Katz.

Critic reviews

"Following hard on the red spike heels of 2005's Sex, Murder, and a Double Latte, Davis' second whodunit delivers on the promise of the first....Davis chooses style over substance, skillfully keeping the snappy dialogue funny all the way to the unsurprising surprise ending." (Publishers Weekly)

Great Chick Lit Mystery

This is the second Sophie Katz book in the series and I really enjoyed this book, even more than the first one. I thought I had the murderer figured out really early on but about half way through the book a twist was tossed in and put me off guard and from that point on I could not figure out who was the murder until they revealed themselves at the end. I found this book a light easy read and would classify it Chick Lit Mystery. I also enjoyed the narrator, even though once or twice a book she seems to get the voices mixed up a little not enough to drive you crazy just enough that you recognize it. I would recommend this book to people who like light murder mysteries.

Annoying

Any additional comments?

I would have loved this book as much as I loved the first book, but simple common sense things like calling a lawyer when being questioned by police or calling the police when an intruder is in your house or not going into someone's opened house due to no answer, all overlooked. This made the story irritating and unrealistic. Not my favorite.

I Love This Series

Kyra Davis has done an excellent job renewing this story from the first book - Sex, Murder and a Double Latte. Gabra Zackman does such a good job with the narraration. I was so excited to see this title and purchased it immediately!

If you like suspense, funny characters with a little romance, this is the book for you.

Slow start but great finish!

I began this book immediately after finishing the first (which literally got me hooked to this series). I loved the first one SO much that I may have had really really high expectations. Having said that, this book was good, but didn't pick up in my opinion till the last third. Also for some reason, Sophie's compulsive lying and inability to almost never have a serious moment really began to ware on me. Though they are her main traits (which I found funny in the first book)I think it was rubbing me the wrong way just because it was so slow. Once I hit that last third of the book however, it was all the things I fell in love with from the first book; multiple twists, motives, suspects, action, and suspense.

This wasn't the absolutely greatest, but I am so in love with this series I gave it 4 stars anyways because of its strong finish. Also, one of the things I love so much about this author is that she is descriptive without being boring. I always have the clearest picture in my mind of what everyone looks like, what they are doing, and where they are. It feels more like Im watching a movie than listening to a book. I'm very much looking forward to the next one, so clearly the slow pace hasn't caused me to shy away.

The performance was consistent with the first, except the voice used for Marcus was different than it was in the first book - until the last hour. Then she switched it back. I didn't like new version and was glad to hear the strong, southern, and sassy voice I enjoyed so much from the first book return at the end.

If you like cozy mysteries combined with sarcastic, witty, and at times crude humor, lots of twists, and multiple suspects till the very end- then this is your book!

You never know the ending

This is definitely a woman’s mystery. It kept me wondering to the end who the killer was. Kyra always has twists in her books so that you can’t figure out the ending until SHE reveals it. In this one I just could not buy into the sister’s blasé attitude.

Usually Gabra is an excellent reader but this time she kept mixing up the voices which sometime made for confusion.

Overall I liked the book but I liked Sex, Murder, and a Double Latte much better.

I love these books!

I am lucky enough to get to listen to books while at work. My fellow workers get to listen to me laugh out loud, gasp and the occasional "it's so and so". I'm hooked!

Ok

I really liked this book and would recommend it. I would have given it 5 stars if the author hadn't used God's name in vain. You don't have to use "GD" to have a great book. It had a great storyline and sexual storyline. All the characters make me laugh, mad and sad. I wish this book was a movie or TV show. I hope to hear more about Jerome and Leah. I like Sofia and Antonly as a couple. I would have liked for the Officer to have apologized for his actions.

Great Series

I really loved this series of books. I loved the main character, Sophie, she had a witty sense of humour and I loved all the sarcasm. She can be a little clueless at times but the book was very entertaining. I thought the narrator was great too.

I wanna be Sophie!!

I listened to this audiobook on my Zune while I am at work at my desk or at the gym on the elliptical. I often hate to have to pause it, and forget about the consequences if someone interrupts me!
This story keeps your attention and every step that Sophie takes in solving her mystery makes you hold your breath for more.
Gabra Zackman's character voices are hysterical and believable both at the same time.
She makes you feel like you are at the scene of the crime, or right in the bedroom.

I highly reccommend this audiobook.
