Publisher's summary

Sophie Katz has just offered a man $12,000 for his services. Is she desperate or just meshugeneh?

Considering the kind of disasters that usually befall the half-black, half-Jewish mystery writer, probably both. Because the last time Sophie saw sexy P.I. Anatoly Darinsky, he practically danced a jig when she waved goodbye; a normal reaction for a man who'd nearly bought the farm trying to protect her from her own foolishness. What are the chances he'd agree to take incriminating pictures of her sister's philandering husband? Or that he'd let her tag along, you know, for research?

But when her brother-in-law turns up dead and her sister becomes the prime suspect, Sophie's priority is finding the real killer. With or without Anatoly's help. Her brother-in-law's secret life yields plenty of suspects, but the San Francisco police aren't taking any of them seriously. So Sophie does what comes naturally to her: she stirs up trouble (to lure the killer out, of course).

But if her crazy plan works, will Anatoly be there to protect her this time?

Solve another case with Sophie Katz.

Critic reviews

"Following hard on the red spike heels of 2005's Sex, Murder, and a Double Latte, Davis' second whodunit delivers on the promise of the first....Davis chooses style over substance, skillfully keeping the snappy dialogue funny all the way to the unsurprising surprise ending." (Publishers Weekly)

I've discovered a new series ...

Well, this is the second book of the series. But since this one was on sale and sounded like a book I would be interested in, I decided to start here.

Now, I have to go back to the first book and work my way through a series that isn't quite long enough yet. I enjoyed this book a lot. And look forward to each addition to the series in the future.

Okay, I'm not sure that I should compare one series with another by different authors but ... I'm going to.
I started the Stephanie Plum books, by Janet Evanovich, with "Plum Spooky" because I am originally from southern New Jersey and wanted to know Evanovich's "take" on the Pine Barrens. Quickly, I added to my collection from that series, but mostly because I enjoyed all the supporting characters like Lula, Grandma Mazur and Connie. Stephanie -- well, she's the glue that brings together all these fun and wacky people.
However, here, Sophie is an interesting character in herself. Her supporting character friends and family are interesting but aren't the draw here. Sophie holds her own.

Onward to the the rest of this series!

Even Better than the first one!

Sophie comes back with her friends from the first book and they add her sister and mom. I did enjoy this as much as Janet Evanovich's series with Stephanie Plum! This is a must read follow-up to the first book. Enjoy!

Passion and Betrayal

I loved it. It was a fun, light read. The characters are quirky and fun. I especially like how the 'annoying' sister develops throughout the book.

Must Be in the Mood for Good Humor

Would you listen to Passion, Betrayal, and Killer Highlights again? Why?

well I own all of the Sophie Katz series, after listening to #1. I never got around to the rest, and am now kicking myself for having gone without this low key humor!

What other book might you compare Passion, Betrayal, and Killer Highlights to and why?

this book is even better than book #1 as there is no character development just great humor.

Which character – as performed by Gabra Zackman – was your favorite?

I love droll Dena! She is a hoot. I love ms Zackman's male voices so I own over 50 and have many to have a first time listen.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No not moved me, but made me laugh out loud. Gads Dena made this whole listen so fun.
You have to be in the mood for this type of humor. Bring it!

Kyra Davis' books are always so much fun!

I always have a lot of fun buying a Kyra Davis book. Gabra Zackman's narration is perfect. Her delivery is so tongue in cheek. Can't wait till the next book comes out. These books have a little of everything.

Love It!!

I love the relationship between Sophie and Anatoly. Sophie is a modern edgy girl that is very relateable.

Not as much humor and fun as the previous book.

Gabra is a wonderful reader.

Another Enjoyable Listen

I really enjoy this series. Silly mysteries that keep me guessing. However, I wish they would stop voicing the 18 month old baby. Babies don't speak that well at 18 months. We DO NOT CARE what the 18 month old has to say. There's no relevancy to the story and it just sounds stupid. Otherwise; I hope these keep coming
