Publisher's summary

Sophie Katz has just offered a man $12,000 for his services. Is she desperate or just meshugeneh?

Considering the kind of disasters that usually befall the half-black, half-Jewish mystery writer, probably both. Because the last time Sophie saw sexy P.I. Anatoly Darinsky, he practically danced a jig when she waved goodbye; a normal reaction for a man who'd nearly bought the farm trying to protect her from her own foolishness. What are the chances he'd agree to take incriminating pictures of her sister's philandering husband? Or that he'd let her tag along, you know, for research?

But when her brother-in-law turns up dead and her sister becomes the prime suspect, Sophie's priority is finding the real killer. With or without Anatoly's help. Her brother-in-law's secret life yields plenty of suspects, but the San Francisco police aren't taking any of them seriously. So Sophie does what comes naturally to her: she stirs up trouble (to lure the killer out, of course).

But if her crazy plan works, will Anatoly be there to protect her this time?

Solve another case with Sophie Katz.

Critic reviews

"Following hard on the red spike heels of 2005's Sex, Murder, and a Double Latte, Davis' second whodunit delivers on the promise of the first....Davis chooses style over substance, skillfully keeping the snappy dialogue funny all the way to the unsurprising surprise ending." (Publishers Weekly)

Bravery and stupidity

They say it’s a fine line between bravery and stupidity and Sophie Katz walks that line. Not sure why I find her funny and not annoying, but there it is.

Fantastic Series

I always look forward to the Sophie Katz series. These are such fun stories! Great characters, all with different personalities that make you love them, or want to strangle them. Hilarious situations when they come together, and often clash with each other. I love everything about these books. I can't wait til the next one comes out!

Just as fun as number one!

Charming, fun and filled with catty women! The series develops nicely in this second book. I loved Sophie and Anatoly's banter as well as the slow pace of their relationship. The book doesn't make love Sophie's number one motivation in life, which is so refreshing in a chick lit style book.

A great fun read, if you liked the first, you'll be glad you chose to follow it up.

Fun series...not huge on substance, but fun

Would you listen to Passion, Betrayal, and Killer Highlights again? Why?

So I have listened to the whole series and my thoughts are the same on all the books. The stories are not huge on substance, but the main character is fun, her love interest is interesting and a little different and the intereaction between her and her friends is fun. Good read while working out or puttering around.

the bronx goes to San Francisco?

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I listen to audio books on the way to work so eh, it doesn't matter

How did the narrator detract from the book?

COMPLETELY!!! Narrator has a speach pattern I found VERY distracting and I haven't a clue in the world why most of the characters sound like they just flew in from the Bronx. Anatoly is supposed to be "hot" but the narrator's bad Russian accent made him creepy. And on top of that, to me every single woman in the book sounded like a drag queen...from Brighton Beach.

Any additional comments?

The book is fine although the characters are not bright (at all. Let's not call this a mystery) but the narrator killed any prospect of another Kyra Davis book in my library.

fun book to listen too

The story was fun and intriguing. It kept me thinking. I love how the author is a no nonsense type, just puts it out there. The characters are funny and yet serious. love it!

I guess it was okay

Can’t say I was great but it was okay for a murder mystery. Some things were predictable others unexpected. I was disappointed with some of the stereotypes and the humor was hit and miss. Overall it wasn’t bad.

Better than the first !

If you thought that Kyra's first book was exciting, her new book Passion, Betrayal, and Killer Highlights is even better. You really get to know and feel the characters. I highly recommend listening to this audio. Can't wait for another audio by this author.
