Pants on Fire | [Maggie Alderson]

Pants on Fire

When London editor Georgia Abbott comes to Sydney to work on Glow, a glossy woman's magazine, she has high hopes for a bright new start. Leaving behind a broken heart (her own) and a philandering ex-fiance, she's looking forward to immersing herself in the Tim Tam-eating sisterhood of woman's mags. Not to mention being whisked off into the dusty Australian sunset by a suntanned, Akubra-hatted fantasy man.

Publisher's Summary

When London editor Georgia Abbott comes to Sydney to work on Glow, a glossy woman's magazine, she has high hopes for a bright new start. Leaving behind a broken heart (her own) and a philandering ex-fiance, she's looking forward to immersing herself in the Tim Tam-eating sisterhood of woman's mags. Not to mention being whisked off into the dusty Australian sunset by a suntanned, Akubra-hatted fantasy man.

At first, things seem promising, as Georgia is swept up in a whirl of A-list parties, dancing, dinners, and debauchery. But while Australian water may go down the plughole the other way, Australian men are starting to look all too familiar. And then there's the chaotic bunch of women Georgia works with on Glow, to whom every relationship disaster is a potential article, not least of all Georgia's, whose quest for love is fast becoming headline material. What to do when all the blokes you've found are either gay, married, unfaithful, unable, or just plain unworthy?

    "Screeching bellows"

This books might be good...to read. the Narrator screams and yells in various Aussie accents...most women come out sounding very masculine. The narrator makes the book very hard to follow. I did not like the book and the narrator just killed it.

    "Liked the storyline..."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    I loved the storyline

Who was your favorite character and why?

Anthony because his was the only character that suited the narrator's voice

What didn’t you like about Katrina Baylis’s performance?

The narrator made all Aussie men sound gay, or, like total retards! That is sooo not the right picture.... A better narrator needed!!

And the writer made Sydney sounds like junkie land.... Soooo not the case!

    "Boring"
What disappointed you about Pants on Fire?

This book was simply disappointing to me. I could not relate to the lifestyle nor the characters.

Would you ever listen to anything by Maggie Alderson again?

    Probably not

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Katrina Baylis?

    Unsure

What character would you cut from Pants on Fire?

    Several

    Any additional comments?

    Dont waste your money

    "Enjoyable but vacuous!"

Pants on Fire is an enjoyable enough book but what really lets it's down is the narrator who emphasises all the wrong words therefore making sentences very strange!
