Critic reviews

"Davina Porter maintains the distinct voices she creates for each character throughout the lengthy narration. Her delivery of 18th-century language sounds authentic and is easily understandable." (AudioFile)

Fantastic storyline and characters

What did you love best about Outlander?

It was an intricately and well developed storyline. A very well thought out historical fiction that was complete...no details left untouched.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Claire was a very intelligent and courageous woman who loves deeply and passionately and acts upon that love through all challenges and obstacles

Which scene was your favorite?

The negotiations for the wedding and the story that unfolded around that event

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes but it was so long that that was not possible

Any additional comments?

The narrator was just perfect, utilizing Scottish and British dialects masterfully, which added to the enjoyment of listening to the book.

I'm in love

Would you consider the audio edition of Outlander to be better than the print version?

For me it is, the reader adds to it. Also, I don't have time to sit down and read any more. Having the audio book, I can listen to it any time any where and immerse my self in that world as I want or need. The reader has a very pleasant voice and accent that engages and never annoys

What was one of the most memorable moments of Outlander?

Towards the end is devastating, and the end leaves you hanging, full of hope.

Which scene was your favorite?

The wedding. Keep in mind I'm not that romantic and I don't like weddings, this particular one got my heart.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The Outlander Series are in Starz channel and they are doing an amazing job following the book. The wedding episode is my favorite.

Best story ever!

This book has it all. Adventure, history, mystery, romance, family, honor, villains, myth, legend and truth. The reader/performer is absolutely the best.
If you've seen the TV series you will love all of the detail in the audiobook. I first read the book over 20 years ago, and the story is still as engaging as ever.
Do it. Download it now and enjoy this wonderful tale.... And the rest of the series.

gold standard of audiobooks

Would you consider the audio edition of Outlander to be better than the print version?

Possibly. I almost hate to admit that, but Porter is SO good.

Any additional comments?

In my somewhat limited audiobook experience, these are the best narrated books I've come across yet.

Romantic & Thrilling

I enjoyed this audiobook from beginning to end. The narration is without error and with convincing character voices. The story is intelligent and, at times, full of suspense. The characters are vivid and their relationships intense. The author winds her detailed story along greater questions of time, duty, love and destiny. Don't be afraid of the length as once you are caught up in the story, you just want to hear more. To my delight, I've discovered that there is a series of audiobooks continuing the story of Claire and Jamie... I'm hooked!

Finally dipped into this series...

I like many aspects of this series, the setting in the Scottish Highlands, the premise of time travel, the vivid characterization. I did not care for the very frequent and fairly graphic sex scenes, which became a bit predictable and repetitive after awhile. I will keep reading (listening) but with less enthusiasm than I had when I started.

How can you not enjoy Gabaldon?

I'm a huge fan of the Outlander Books. I've read all of Diana's books including those from the Lord John series. Thought I give it a try for my first audiobook. I really enjoyed it.

Loved it and I'm not a Romance Novel Fan!

I started this series (am now almost done with the 3rd book), firstly because I was looking for a highly-rated LONG book to make the most of my monthly credit. I usually choose mysteries and plain historical fiction.

The idea of Scotland and a female main character with an interest in medicine hooked me. There was a bit more detail in the love scenes, but not offensive to me in anyway. LOVE the reader and the history and the characters and the writing. IMPRESSIVE and I will continue to purchase these books.
