Critic reviews

"Davina Porter maintains the distinct voices she creates for each character throughout the lengthy narration. Her delivery of 18th-century language sounds authentic and is easily understandable." (AudioFile)

Drawn in

I chose the audible option for this book bc if the length and it takes me very long to read because I fall asleep. I was so drawn in by the story and the love between Claire and Jaime that I was listening while in bed, while in the shower, while driving to work, while waiting for kids to get out of practices and whenever else I could fit it in! The voices of Davina Porter were superb and immersed me in the era and each character. I’m looking forward to starting the next book....

Great story, a little to much sex...overall good

If there were less sex and a little more of the adventure, it would be better. Easy to follow along and get into the story until the long in depth "romance". I had to skip over some parts because all the sex descriptions became redundant...also too much detail on the male rape (cringe worthy and had to skip also).

Has It All!

Oh, this was the best
best audio I've listened to. The narration is spot on and the narrator's inflections and characters make this story come alive. I couldn't stop listening, I hated to have to turn off the story but one does have to sleep.

The book kept me enthralled, the story line was exciting and tumultuous. The red hot passion of the main characters and the thrilling scenes of prison escapes and brushes of near death lead the listener on a roller coaster of emotion.

A million accolades for Divina Porter! Her interpretation of the story is spot on. The accents are wonderfully done, varied and one can easily identify characters one from another. This is just a wonderful book to sit back and listen to, the lochs, crags and mountains are skillfully painted in the mind's eye.

Better than series naturally

Has so much more intimate detail and explanation of emotions than a series could possibly offer. I truly enjoyed the narrator and the story

Great narrator!

I think I'm liking the books more than the show for sure. There's less needless drama when it doesn't really help to move the story along. Plus Claire's Jesus H Roosevelt Christ's are much fewer lol which is nice. The narrator was great and super entertaining!

Excellent story

I didnt really love the narrator voice, slightly shrill. Other than that, it was a riveting story.

Loved the connection that Clair and Jamie have. Could not wait to see where the story was going. Can’t wait to read more.

Love this series

This series is one of my favorites, the only complaint I have is that you can hear conversations in the background as she is reading which is a little distracting. Notably at the 10:30 mark you can really hear it.

Listen worthy

Great story and the narrator is fantastic! I love the different voices she does. Will definitely listen to the other stories by this author, especially if this narrator is the narrator for them!!

Wanted to compare the STARZ version

I have not read this book prior to watching the series. I enjoyed the book very much- there were quite a few differences from book vs series. I enjoyed them both!! I will be getting the series on audio as well - I’ve watched STARZ Outlander multiple times so it was nice to hear original version! Thank you
