Yes, with the understanding the book mainly takes place around a couples love affair.
What other book might you compare Outlander to and why?
Do not have a comparison this is not my typical book. I was expecting something a little different.

It had a couple laughs and couple of parts that got pretty dark. A pretty good range of emotion.

I have started the second book and really have enjoyed the beginning. The review rankings seem to get better as the series goes on. The first book is 33 hours but wasn't hard to listen to and I found myself enjoying it more and more. I think if you enjoy the romance side of this book it will be well worth your time and open you up to the second book which will be even better.

Fabulous on every level!
This was my first Audible order, after many recommendations from fellow Outlander fans. They were absolutely right about Davina Porter's wonderful performance. Of course the source material is stellar to start, but this reading is the icing on the cake.

WOW........THE BEST STORY EVER!
Would you listen to Outlander again? Why?
I have actually listened to it too many times to count already!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Outlander?
Too many memorable moments to pick one! Everything in the story touches your heart and stays there forever.
What about Davina Porter’s performance did you like?
Davina Porter is the absolute best at reading like a Scot. I cannot imagine reading the book in print. I could never sound as wonderful as Davina and her accent MAKES the story come alive.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The book is just one moment after another that moves a person. Jamie's love for Claire is always a very moving moment.
Any additional comments?
The entire Outlander series is great. Diana keeps the story going and you just want to keep reading. I've never physically been to Scotland, but I feel like I've been there many times through the story. It has made me scour the internet for pictures of Scotland and particularly the area the story takes place in. Apparently, a movie and a TV series are in the making.........I along with millions of others are patiently waiting for this to happen. I cannot get enough of OUTLANDER!!! If you haven't read it......you best get started.....you won't regret it!

Masterful storytelling
What made the experience of listening to Outlander the most enjoyable?
Diana Porter's narration is amazing! It's easy to forget it's a narration.. You start to believe you're actually hearing Claire speak in real-time, with every surprise and inflection.
What does Davina Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She really gives life and voice to Claire. I could not have done it better in my own head. Listening to her tell the story made this a richer experience than reading it myself would have done. Plus, her scottish accents are just different enough to differentiate characters but not overwhelming to the point of cartoonishness.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me instantly regretful when it was over. I purchased book 2 in the series immediately.
Any additional comments?
This book has been out for decades. I knew my step-mom loves this series, so somehow I always kind of classified it as older-woman chick-lit of some kind. I'm in my 20's and now I wish I'd gotten this book sooner... It pulls you in with great storytelling that crosses genres.
