Critic reviews

"Davina Porter maintains the distinct voices she creates for each character throughout the lengthy narration. Her delivery of 18th-century language sounds authentic and is easily understandable." (AudioFile)

Thank you, Audible!

I am so delighted that you have finally added the Unabridged version of this book. For those of us who love Diana Gabaldon's books, the abridged versions leave a lot to be desired. Please, please, please add the others in her series in unabridged as well. Davina Porter is the perfect choice for narrator and the unabridged version is fabulous. Thanks again.

Great story but

What did you love best about Outlander?

The story was amazing

Any additional comments?

I loved this book but really, too much emphasis on sex for my taste. I wish books had a rating system like movies do.

pleasantly surprised

Would you listen to Outlander again? Why?

Sometimes I have passed over long novels because they had parts I was forced to yawn through. The stories had added passages that made the stories drag on. I saw this novel in the "what was your favorite summer read" post. So many picked this one that I thought I would give it a try. Wow was i happy I did! More than 30 hrs of listening and I still couldn't stop. I have purchased the next and know I will finish the series. the writing keeps you interested, the historical aspect peaks the mind, the love story keeps your heart involved and the narrator makes you feel like your there with the characters. I have listened to more than 200 audio books and this one is in the top 5.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Outlander?

I can't say as I would give a plot or important part away. I loved experiencing all the twists and turns and do not want to spoil it for any other reader

Have you listened to any of Davina Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not but I am a true fan of her talent now and will search out more after this series

Any additional comments?

well written and well narrated, do not pass this one up!

The Start of a Long Journey

Any additional comments?

This book was an amazing beginning to a long and enthralling saga. I know I could read it faster, but the narrator makes the listen SO worthwhile.

Very Gripping!!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed the storyline. I loved all the trifle details, dialogues, and character developments. Unlike the game of thrones your favorite characters aren't systematically annihilated. I did feel like the leading man grew far to emotionally unstable at the end. I think some of his issues should of remained hidden from the reader.

Excellent In All Aspects!!

I truly can't see what the most recent viewers can possibly have to complain about with this book. It has the perfect balance: Well researched, accurate history . . . extremely well developed characters . . . interesting plots that move quickly and aren't predictable. This book (and those which follow) is not for the faint of heart. It takes place in 18th century Scotland and England, these weren't peaceable times, folks! They were violent at times, and the violence and sex in the story is appropriate for the period. If you want a quick, easy and mindless read, try Harlequin. If you enjoy well researched historical fiction, this is a great book for you! The narrator is quite gifted, and brings the characters to life.

Gabaldon & Porter: a fantastic combination

Would you consider the audio edition of Outlander to be better than the print version?

I fell in love with the series first through the audio. I've listened to this twice from a library copy and just bought my own copy for kindle and listened again. Davina Porter does a fabulous job reading all the different characters but after all, it is Diana's book and the characters are Diana's. I've also read the book three times and own the hard copy. I promote this series to all that will listen!!

What did you like best about this story?

The characters, the humor, Claire & Jaimie are not just interesting heroic and romantic but fun. I feel a full range of emotions going through this series.

What about Davina Porter’s performance did you like?

All the different voices for the different individuals. I can't help wonder, how does she do it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

of course not

Any additional comments?

Love it, Love it. Book and audio. Recommend to all.
