A number-one romance/suspense best seller on Amazon, from USA Today best-selling Author Nora Flite
If you hated your life and wanted to prove to the world that you could change, how would you do it?
I had a plan. I also had no family, no friends, and definitely no jerk of an ex-boyfriend who thought I was boring.
I was tired of being me.
In Vegas I could be anything.
And then I saw him.
His hungry smile wanted a taste of the new me.
Only a boring person would have said no.
It was reckless to follow a stranger to his bed. Dangerous to take the drink he handed me. I thought the worst regret I'd have would be a hangover, a walk of shame through the hotel.
Except I didn't wake up in the hotel.
Or in Vegas.
I doubt my face will end up in the news. "Woman missing," the headline would say. "A stupid person who thought she could be someone else."
I'm not someone else. I was only playing pretend.
Too bad he was playing for keeps.
Author's note: This is a dark romance novel. It contains themes of violence and mature situations that could make readers uncomfortable.

I really enjoy the world of books! Narration just add layers to that world... don't u think? :)
This was good...but dark... I guess... I mean he did kidnap her... so.... IDK...
I really didn't like the female lead... she was just so... IDK... boring... lol... I mean she goes to vegas to prove to who? No one that she isn't boring when her boyfriend who owns a food stand breaks up with her and fires her at the same time...
There she meets the male lead...he is rich, smart, sexy but dangerous... he drugs her... kidnaps and what does she do...she is pissed because he is making her the perfect bride for someone else... Ummmmm... he kidnapped you... how about let's hate him on principle... he is a kidnapper...but nope... Our girl is mildly upset over this...but she shows real anger when she learns she will be the perfect bride for someone else...
Now saying that... the book redeems itself in the end... I enjoyed the Russian gang war (kinda) at the end...
Maybe not a re-read...but worth a buy or sale...
If nothing else is out there... go ahead and spend that credit... it is enjoyable...
Narration was pretty darn good... Very relaxing voice...
there was nothing in this book that hasn't been written many times before and I'm extremely disappointed also. ...if you're seeking dark romance it's not here
STORY: 4 stars
PERFORMANCE: 4.5 stars
OVERALL: 4 stars
If you are craving something decadently disturbing and depraved, this is not the book for you. However, if you're a dark erotica lover in the mood for a break from the more sick and twisted stories we typically devour, this may be the right pick.
I have read many books about women being abducted yet this one is different from the rest. It's impossible to explain exactly how this book is different without spoiling the story; all I can say is that it is nowhere near as dark as most stories of this type are. Although there is violence and some non-con/dub-con scenes, Ms. Flite found a way to lessen the blows so to speak. In the past, I've become enraged while reading books that only hinted at the supposed depravity of its' characters or while reading a storyline where the dark parts fade to black but that's not what happens in ONLY PRETEND. Without going the easy route by writing yet another Stockholm Syndrome style romance, Flite has created a story that is dark yet simultaneously endearing. Remarkably and admirably, she was able to do this without adding any unrealistic events or characters.
Wow, what a phenomenal performance! Samantha Cook has got to be a trained actress as she seamlessly brought the female character and her story to life. She really impressed me and despite having listened to many, many audiobooks, I truly cannot imagine another narrator doing a better job of speaking as the female main character or telling her story. Although I was not overly impressed with Ms. Cook's voice while speaking as the male mc, I assume it'd be a daunting task for any female narrator to read dialogue as a male with a Russian accent! Besides, everything else about her performance was perfection! She consistently spoke with just the right amounts of emotion, volume, etc.. Ms. Cook is an extremely talented, gifted narrator! She is someone I will look forward to listening more of in the future.
True, this book is not flowers and candy, but it's real, and raw. Life is not black and white, right or wrong, it just is. This book is like that. There is a similar trilogy that is even better in my opinion, so if you read this book and enjoy it as much as I have, pick up Captive in the Dark, by CJ Robert's. it's trilogy, and it's great.
My only pet peeve about this book is the way narrator pronounced Leonid's name. So wrong if you speak Russian. was grinding on my nerves;)
